This appeared on the similarities thread;

It would be neat to have a thread that highlights similar album covers someone may have come across. From the outright similar to the slightly differing though shared concept/ visual appearance, without treading into baing much of a stretch between the two (or more) album covers.

Example for the former:

This is a really cool idea for a thread. I've got a couple:

There were also two albums that used the John Martin painting The Last Judgment for cover art. I know one was Angel Witch's As Above, So Below, but I can't for the life of me remember who did the other one.

Seems like it's common in a lot of shameless retro copycat acts. :p

A highlight would be great . . . It's all in good fun.
The Frostbitten one is chuckle inducing in its replicational effrontery.
These share an art piece, but I can only speak for Woebegone. Killer death doom with funeral inclinations.

anaal nathrakh's in the constellation... uses the same art as timeghoul's panaramic twilight... i'm sure there's a ton of examples like that, where the band uses an existing piece of art

also, the horsehead nebula appears on a (largeish) number of album covers, tho' i can only remember mithras' world... off the top of my head

Along these lines, a graphic designer just started a blog calling out plagiarism in metal album covers and it's really well done. People need to realize that taking a copyrighted image and fiddling with it in Photoshop doesn't eliminate the copyright. I doubt anyone would take this stuff to court, but it's pretty incredible how brazen and lazy these artists are.

Anaal's new album also uses the same art as Gorgoroths Ad Majorem Sathanas Gloriam.

Oh, yeah Mithras', shares with Origin's ep.
On that plagiarizm note, there was a similar metal artist who got called out for retouching other metal artists' artwork before reselling it back to bands. Can't recall who, but he did touch some big name work.

EDIT: was a dude called Slasher Design

Do they count if they have the same art? Or has it have to be the same concept only?

Should be no issue with either. Or do you mean similar ones from a single band? Could be intriguing.

That's not the Horsehead Nebula... That's the Pillars of Creation, just as the album title says.

Nitpicking, the .50-cal e-sniping tool of the 21st century.

Wow, these are clearly three different pieces of art depicting the exact same thing. Can't be a coincidence that three different people just happened to converge on the "screaming eyeball monolith" thing.

Caina's Some People Fall and Svarti Loghin's Drifting Through the Void use the same general concept. It's so similar that I remember Andrew Curtis-Brignell suggesting it may have been plagiarized on social media some time ago. However, it's such a simple concept to begin with that I'm sure it's purely coincidental.
Spoiler: show

Then there's this one which has already been brought up in the Nokturnal Mortum thread. To be fair, there are probably dozens of of Kristian Wåhlin's covers that look similar. This is just the example that's fresh in my mind.

Might want to check out somewhere like this mate:

Seriously though, what's not to like? Aside from his frequent over-reliance on the colour blue, he has a great eye for detail and perspective, and is one of the few metal cover artists who can make the most grotesque subject matter look hauntingly creepy and eye-wateringly beautiful at the same time.
