well, anata posted the following on facebook in june 2016, so i'm gonna go ahead and be (foolishly?) hopeful for a 2018 release, even tho' they haven't said anything about it since

Quote:
We understand that a lot of you guys are still waiting for the new or whatever album and we absolutely LOVE you guys for hanging in there.
So here's what. Mastering of the long awaited album will take place in July.
And then we'll see. Times are changing and there are different options when it comes to labels, formats etc.

Pharaoh has a new one coming out, The Powers That Be. Should be amazing.

I was talking with Seasons of the Wolf via FB and they say their new one is almost out. They have a new singer though. Unsure how that's going to work but I have faith they can still write good songs.

Oh yeah, Deceased are coming out with something too - another long wait. So many great metal bands take years.

Edit again: Slough Feg 'The New Organon' might come out next year, based on their announcement a few months ago. That should be something.

Mary's Blood have teased about starting studio recordings, so that probably won't materialize until 2018, but I must have it all the same.

New Pharaoh and Orphaned Land might be pretty sweet, too.

Haha I came to make the obligatory post about Anata but I see I've been beaten. Before I die I will hear this album.

Mitochondrion posted some cryptic shit on FB a few months ago, something about new stuff on the horizon, so I'm hoping that means a 2018 release.

I may or may not have heard the hint of a rumor that Domains is working on new material but I almost don't want to utter the words, so unreasonably high are my expectations. If their sophomore is as good as the debut it'll be the best album of the year, and if it's better it'll be one of the best of all time.

Watain is the only new release I'm aware of so far. Of course in the semi-metal area I am anxiously awaiting a Tool release but I will probably copy/paste this sentence in the 2028 albums thread.

The Offering (US) are supposed to put out a new album next year. Their EP this year was killer. New Pharaoh next year. Sacrosanct is supposed to be recording a new album right now. Maybe Source will put out a full length. Toxik full length will probably get pushed back to 2018.

Fear Factory and Kalmah have been working on new stuff, both should see release next year.

Children of Bodom have spoken about new stuff so I imagine they'll have a new one out next year.

Seen one or two rumours about Iron Maiden having studio time booked with Kevin Shirley early in 2018, so perhaps they may put something out.

Kenny Hickey's new project, Silvertomb, have been writing for a while I think, so an album next year is likely.

I have already been it last year but it didn't happen. Maybe it'll finally be released next year. I'm talking about the new Seventh Wonder album. It's getting a bit disappointing to be promised a new album but the promise is broken repeatedly. Maybe it will happen next year but I don't have high hopes.

Other than that I hope that the new Within Temptation album is going to be good. I liked Hydra, and I heard that the album is going to be more symphonic than Hydra, so it should be interesting.

Crypt Sermon just posted on their Facebook that they're planning to start recording their next album by January at the latest. Definitely looking forward to that, and I'm interested in hearing Watain and Summoning as well.

This is really good news. I was actually wondering the other day if they might be planning on releasing something next year. I think Out of the Garden is a perfect album.

I know In Vain (Norway) has been set to release a new album for a while now. I'm assuming it will be 2018. Also looking forward to new material from Bloodshot Dawn and Reverence.

Fingers crossed for that one. Would also enjoy some new Batushka and Cult of Fire while we're on the subject of high quality epic BM.

If you're into post-black metal, 2018 could see some good releases. Rumor has it Deafheaven is in the studio and Bosse-de-nage is working on some new material. Similarly, Vaura was supposed to be recording their follow up to The Missing earlier this year. I wonder if we'll see that before 2018, but either way I'm looking forward to it seeing the light of day. Really enjoyed The Missing, a very unique and imaginative sound.

Also very excited for Agrimonia who have been recording a follow up to the unfathomably awesome slab of crust/post-metal Rites of Separation.

Pure speculation, but I feel like the following bands are due for a release. Really would like to see something from at least one of them;
Abyssal
Dordeduh
Skagos
Meads of Asphodel

On a non-metal note, I just learned today that one of the few respectable modern hard-rock bands left, Middle Class Rut, are back together and recording a 3rd album. I'm definitely pumped about that one.

EDIT:

Kalmah would be great! And I have been checking practically daily for any new about a new Coroner release.

Not that excited for a new Dimmu Borgir, but it would be cool if Galder got around to doing something with Old Man's Child.

Hyperion really needs to follow up on Seraphical Euphony. Incredible album.

Haven't heard anything out of Weeping Birth in a while. 2015's The Crushed Harmony was practically perfect.

Warlord!!!! I loved 2013's The Holy Empire. The follow-up to that fantastic come-back is long overdue.

Looking forward to Axel Rudi Pell's new one. Game of Sins was respectable, with the incredible title track.

Arkona's got a new one coming out. Even though I wasn't much of a fan of the last one, I'm still looking forward to this one.

Angel of Damnation, a doom metal band fronted by Gerrit Mutz of Dawn of Winter and Sacred Steel fame is putting out their second album next year.

Speaking of Dawn of Winter, they are supposed to start recording a new album next year, though who knows if it will actually be released next year.

Battleroar is supposed to have a new album in the works, who knows where that stands.

Bands who've been working on new albums for fucking years that for some reason aren't out yet and who fucking knows when they'll be out: Wotan, Kranium, Jacula.

Most of these bands are either working on new material or at least are due to release something in the near future.

Alice In Chains new album could probably see a late 2018 release.
Seconding Sulphur Aeon and Hyperion. Both "recent" bands that are top tier in their respective genres.
Imperial Triumphant, one of the best things to happen to BM IMO, can't wait for more chaos.
Inferi are working on new stuff. Killer band, way underrated.
New Judicator would be great, both their previous albums rule.
Wrathage should be releasing an EP very soon. Their 2015 album was awesome.
God Of Atheists is Asgeir Mickelson all-star project and theoretically should be ready soon. Stupid name, yeah, but the line-up makes me drool, go check it.
Batushka need to release a follow-up to that monster of a debut.
Esoteric, it has been way too long... hurry up! Same goes for Carpe Noctem.

I'm sure there's way more, this is just at the top of my head ATM.

Now, for the dreams/hopes...

Tool
Anata
Lykathea Aflame
Amogh Symphony
Demonoid
Arafel

I'm quite interested to hear what Kalmah has been up to. Four brilliant albums out of the gate, and then some duds with a few decent songs here and there.

More importantly, Sulphur Aeon, Summoning, Omnium Gatherum and Amiensus will release new stuff in 2018, among others. I also hope for a new Cain's Offering album.
