^ And I can already tell from that song that this will once again have album of the year potential, just as the last two did. For all of the comebacks in recent years, Satan's has gone relatively unknown and underappreciated other than to those fully aware. Here's hoping this finally gets some more eyes and ears on them, working with Metal Blade fits and should help. Would be over the moon if Hell somehow were able to get theirs out by the end of the year, but this will more than hold me over until then.

Satan hype! I appreciate the dedication to the consistency of their sound, brand and imagery. I'm positive it will be a force to be reckoned with as far as trad releases go this year.

This just became my most anticipated album of the year.. Can't imagine how they will top II and III!

Also excited to see this announced. Metachthonia was my album of the year for 2016 and I'm eager to see what their follow up is like.

Melodic BM that sounds fantastic.

This sounds cool. I'll keep an eye on this as well.

P.H.O.B.O.S. - Phlogiston Catharsis (September 10)

Looks like this will be another winner for P.H.O.B.O.S.. Their brand of industrial doom really works for me and I'm excited to hear the rest of the album.

Looks like Italian symphonic black metal band Darkend is up to something maybe for later this year. Studio recording work posted on their FB earlier today.

While I found The Canticle of Shadows kind of boring, both Assassine and Grand Guignol - Book I are among my top extreme metal albums.

Deiphago have recorded a new album I, the Devil to be released later this year by Hells Headbangers. Artwork looks good (NSFW):
Spoiler: show

Apparently HHR will also release the new Nyogthaeblisz album, Abrahamic Godhead Besieged by Adversarial Usurpation. I've never given them much of a listen so this might be a good opportunity.

Not bad but no human alive will pay $666 for a digital album.

Ketha posted on their Facebook that they will be releasing a 4 track EP called Magnaminus later this year. Full instrumental. That should be interesting and probably another winner in their discography.

Unfortunately they also said that it will be the last thing they will release under the name Ketha so it looks like they will be disbanding at the end of the year. I hope they continue to make music together under a new name because I believe the band is extremely talented and they haven't burned out yet. I guess we will see what happens there but in the meantime I'm very keen to hear the new EP and see which direction they take their music. No two albums are similar yet they all have that Ketha vibe about them, if that makes sense. I'm sure this one will be exactly the same.

Mantar is scheduled to release a new album 24th of august. Mantar has become something of an unexpected favorite of mine. It started with their album covers that always seemed to have imaging that was a little bit off from most other bands. And then their music started to pour into my ears and I liked what I heard, a bit unique - absolutely. Perhaps a big factor is that the band is a power duo. Just a gitarrist/singer and a drummer.

Anyway there's a single out now:

Mob Rules is set for a new release on August 24th. I enjoyed Tales From Beyond, but felt it faded a bit towards the end. "Ghost of a Chance" is a really fun song though, so high hopes for this one.

Hey, fuck yeah... it's cool that Mob Rules are one of the bands that has only gotten heavier and meatier with time. That song's also got a cool chorus that reminds me more of their early work than anything in years. Hopefully the whole album's good.

Greek epic metallers Braveride are releasing their third album, called ...Of Heroes and Innerfire this year, and next year will see a re-release of their 2012 sophomore album, Rise of the Dragonrider.

Click for facebook post.

Their first two albums have only been released digitally and on CD-Rs, I'm thinking this new one and the Rise of the Dragonrider re-release will be "legit" CDs since they are on an actual label this time. Rise of the Dragonrider is a pretty damn cool album, definitely looking forward to both of these.

Hour of 13 just announced they (he) are releasing a new album, no word on release date in the press release. Phil Swanson is not involved. I think Chad Davis is handling vocals, but I am not sure.

Verbose press release, along with a song: https://hourofthirteen.blogspot.com/2018/07/announcement-7-7-2018.html?m=1

Usurper, the black/thrash band from Chicago, have begun recording their first album since 2005's "Cryptobeast" for release later this year through Soulseller Records. I haven't listened to them in a very long time and that'll obviously have to be fixed, but I remember all of their albums being enjoyable to varying degrees. Wasn't even aware they were back to begin with, so that's a welcome surprise.

New Pig Destroyer in September. New song was released today. Not sure about it, sounds really tame. Ok, it's weak.

Pig Destroyer are another band that seem like they're slowing down now. I don't think they will ever recapture their glory days, and everything they've done since Phantom Limb has kind of shown that.

That being said I kind of liked the groove in this song and I think there's potential for this album to be good, at least to my ears, so we'll see what the other songs hold.

I heard new Revocation, new Pig Destroyer, new Mantar and new Hour of 13 (!?) and it all rules. Some really exciting shit coming up!

edit: also the track isn't super new but Zero Day by Nothing is great and got me amped to follow up a favourite of mine from a few years back.

A quick peek through the comments of a post on 20 Buck Spin's FB page says we MIGHT get new Magic Circle by the end of the year, as they're currently in the final stages of recording. Fingers and toes crossed that'll happen.

Brainstorm announced a new album out September 28th. I thought Scary Creatures was one of their better albums and this first single is a lot of fun as well, so this should be a good one.

I just got the promo for the new album by The Skull and I can confirm that it's fucking great. Bit more mellow than their debut but easily going to be another top doom album.

The news about Usurper is great - I loved pretty much all of their output.

That Mantar track sounds sick and powerful. Simple but works on every level.

And Satan will probably slay and annihilate every other album that came out this year. That new song sounds AMAZING.

Helrunar and A Forest of Stars, two black metal bands on Prophecy Productions, will release their next albums on the 28th September. With their previous efforts in mind, I am very hyped for these two.

Hatriot is in the studio recording their new album and first with Cody Souza on lead vocals instead of Zetro, aiming to have it out sometime in November. I really enjoyed their first two and were about as spot on in recreating current day Exodus as I've ever heard. Not just because of who was singing but the riffs and production and actual songwriting, too. Should help to hold me over until Gary and co. finally get around to it next year.

Nick Souza's other band, Sudden Loss, seems like they'll be alright as they've been recording a full-length as well. Here's their debut EP from earlier this year with their vocalist at the time: https://suddenlossofficial.bandcamp.com

I guess Striker is releasing a new album this year, making it the third full length in as many years. I thought Stand in the Fire was phenomenal and nearly flawless, however the self-titled was a step back. It's not bad, but lacks the same level of energy and really loses steam toward the end. I can't help but feel like they are rushing these releases. The new song sounds good to me, but I expect a lot better than good from them after albums like Stand in the Fire and City of Gold.
