Not the biggest fan of the Finnish BM scene, Azaghal included, but damn does that track kick ass.

Guess I'll have to check that album when it comes out.

This band really has the chops to be the next big PM band. A bit samey perhaps, but damn are they sharp and badass.

Evoken finally released details of their upcoming album:

“Hypnagogia” (to be released on CD/2xLP/Digital on Nov 9)
1.The Fear After
2.Valorous Consternation
3.Schadenfreude
4.Too Feign Ebullience
5.Hypnagogia
6.Ceremony Of Bleeding
7.Hypnopompic
8.The Weald Of Perished Men

Spoiler: show
Image
“Hypnagogia” is an expression of doom metal artistry where the listener will bear witness how EVOKEN can create a new and even more daring expression with a monument that will be recognized as a landmark. This tends to happen regardless with every EVOKEN release, but “Hypnagogia” sees the band expand their musical dynamics even more through the meticulous care and discrimination of the band’s song writing process, “Hypnagogia” being a listening experience through a multitude of varying yet flourishing emotions. Pushing both their penchant for grandiose melodicism and their trademark aura of pulverizing supreme unparalleled heaviness even more, it is the base of this repercussion that makes “Hypnagogia” one of the most intense, compelling, and soul crushing EVOKEN listening experiences yet; one of euphoria, desperation, and hopelessness. As drummer/lyricist Vince Verkay says, “As we do on every record we definitely wanted to avoid repeating ourselves. We wanted to keep it EVOKEN of course, but go a little deeper with melody and arrangement and also try new things; to present the listener with an emotionally exhausting record.”

“Hypnagogia” also sees EVOKEN delve into their first concept album. As Verkay describes the themes and lyrics “Hypnagogia” is, “Based around WWI and its physiological impact on those who fought. It’s used metaphorically about events that impacted me the past three years, which I will keep to myself. But the story behind this WW1 theme is based on a soldier who was so bitter about being lied to and is losing his life. He’s wounded in battle and decides to write a journal of his final hours, describing what he sees and what he feels as his life is slipping away. Feeling cheated, he makes a pact with a sadistic god that he can leave a part of his soul, which contains all of his suffering, within this journal. To feel some sort of vengeance, anyone who reads this journal releases that part of his soul and it attaches itself to the reader like a host. Each emotion being experienced as if they too were there. As the reader descends into a deep despair, they cannot handle this suffering, deciding to take their own life. Once gone, that part of their soul, containing all the misery is taken by the writer’s misery-laden soul and attaches itself to this journal again, increasing its powerful grip onto the next reader and each time its read with its power increasing.”

Brainstorm's new one sounds cool as fuck... hungrier and faster than a lot of their later period works: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JiC1ZEgpZQM

This Manimal song is badass and I am starting to be won over to their style: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HGxrreT5h2A

Looking forward to the new Anaal Nathrakh and Behemoth albums. Actually pretty excited about the Anaal Nathrakh one, haven’t been this excited by way of slowly dropped singles since Slipknot - .5 The Gray Chapter. ( I know >:p )

Sacral Rage just announced a new album for October. Cannot wait, Illusions in Infinite Void is probably the best speed metal debut so far this century.

The notable albums this year are scarce in my books but there are a few new announcements that still has the potential to reinforce the top list.

WOLFHEART – Constellation of the Black Light (28/09) — the first blackish single is definitely not something I'd call inspiring and there was much more black metal in the album demos but still
RISE TO FALL – Into Zero (30/09) — this guys have never disappointed before although the new teaser sounds ambiguous. New single this Friday
AGRYPNIE – Grenzgænger/Pavor Nocturnus (12/10) — one of the biggest anticipations for this year, although we have zero idea about how the new material actually sounds
AMARANTHE – Helix (19/10) — composed in 2 months and recorded in 2 more. How would it be possible to enjoy that? Well, watch me
ARION – Life Is Not Beautiful (19/10) — only 9 new tracks 3 of which we have already heard. However, Unforgivable is one of the best power metal songs I've heard in years so I do have hopes for this one
MOONSHADE – Sun Dethroned (26/10) — the '14 EP from these guys was a nice Insomnium reflection material

Oh shit, I had no idea Moonshade has an album coming out. I used to listen to that EP a lot a few years ago, but kinda forgot about them. Definitely one of the better Insomnium-influenced melodeath bands in recent years.

The new Entombed A.D single I thought was quite good. The new Unleashed single destroys though, also looking forward to the new Bloodbath and Cancer albums.

I'm looking forward to new tunes from Albert Bell's Sacro Sanctus, Leonov, and hopefully Vials Of Wrath (whose new ep is fantastic).

Oh yes! This made me really happy. If they manage to keep up with the quality and originality of the debut, it can be easily album of the year.

Paragon Impure - Sade
Good to see these belgians being active again. I have a chance to see them live at Brussels together with Lugubrum, and I smell very remarkable evening.

Lucifericon - Al-Khem-Me
I remember being positively surprised by their live performance before I got more familiar with them. They are signed to Invictus. Definitely one of the best recent dutch death metal bands

Sculptured - The Liminal Phase
Maybe not this year anymore, but from what Andy Winter said on facebook it seems the album is from the bigger part done

There's a new Carpe Noctem coming but apparently there's no information about it other than the pre-order page at Aural Webstore. Not even a FB post on the band's page, which is weird.

Some websites have posted a tracklist. The band said a while ago they were recording a new album.

1. Söngurinn sem ómar á milli stjarnanna
2. Upplausn
3. Og hofið fylltist af reyk
4. Hér hvílir bölvun
5. Úr beinum og brjóski
6. Sá sem slítur vængi flugunnar hefur náð hugljómun

Somehow a post dating from over a year ago doesn't seem like a big announcement, and the fact that I only knew details about its release due to receiving word from the label is bizarre. A band that doesn't seem interested in sharing the news about their own work is... peculiar in this day and age. ;)

Thanks for the tracklist though.

They just announced it in their Facebook page, seems like the info got out before they could post it.

Lucifer's Child just announced a new album! Their debut was a criminally underrated slab of wacky Greek black metal, and this one sounds even Greek-ier so far.

Outre-Tombe from Quebec finished their new album and it's coming out in October. These guys are really badass death metal. If you haven't checked out their debut, do so. Here's a new song from their new album.

Not really a 2018 album, but exciting news from the Wuthering Heights camp: They say demos of new tracks are done and the recording will probably start in the winter. I'm not clear on if these recordings are to be for an EP or a full length, but I'm assuming full length.

That's a good question.

The only answer I have is what's on Wuthering Heights' official home page under the "Band" tab: http://www.wuthering-heights.dk/index.php?page=band

Nils Patrick Johannsen is present there. The latest article in the "News" section is from May of 2018 so I presume the Band info probably isn't out of date.

Bunch of doom full-lengths to look forward to. Many debuts. Acolytes of Moros - The Wellspring, Solemn Ceremony - s/t, Mansion - First Death of the Lutheran, Dawn of Winter - Pray for Doom, Pale Divine - s/t. A literal smorgasbord after slim pickings earlier in the year.

September 23.

Here's hoping it's a bit more, uh, concise and eventful than that last one. While I do like a long, droning, CdG hypno-jam, Coven just never gave me a reason to keep coming back. Their other two LPs and the EP are phenomenal and never boring.

Also, wicked art.

I'm a bit worried. All the new songs have been slower and less energetic than I'd like. If this album doesn't have a few speedier numbers like "The Human Paradox" or "Starlight," it's probably not going to be up my alley.

They're a bit slower, but not less energetic. If anything this sounds more individual to me, like they're really nailing down a definite sound. Not sure how much I'll like it compared to the last one which really blew me away, but it's definitely sounding good at any rate to me. The singer seems to be really stretching himself and the songs sound well done so far.

edit: Yeah, listening to all three singles and these are good. Definitely growing on me. More varied, mature sound and not at all a loss of energy or power - you got cool keyboards, some bombastic stuff, etc. Digging it.

So Cultes des Ghoules released a new album today. I know, I'm suprised as well! No idea it was coming out. It's called Sinister, or Treading the Darker Paths. That's all I know about it. Really one of those releases that just suprise you and brighten your day!
