Kunstzone - Solarborn

Image

A 2-man industrial death metal band. Their sound is easiest to describe as a cross-breed between Anaal Nathrakh and Fear Factory. We are talking pretty brutal stuff, and their 3rd album is perhaps their most crushing to date. A great album for those who enjoy having their ears being relentlessly attacked and mutilated.

The new VOLA album, Applause from a Distant Crowd, is out. Not many people know of or talk about VOLA. They're a Danish djent/progressive band, but do NOT be fooled and run away if you normally despise djent. These guys made one of my favorite albums of 2015 and I've been waiting patiently for this new one. The music can be described as some sort of weird, melodic progressive, djenty mix, with absolutely lush and gorgeous clean vocals and some of the most mesmerizing choruses you're gonna hear. The new album is a bit more artsy, a bit more experimental than what I thought it would be like, but it's definitely a proper listen. It'll be a grower. The music has a lot of little nuances and subtleties that reveal themselves with each listen.

From the first album Inmazes:

So the new Seventh Wonder album is a great prog metal album with far more excitement going on than the most recent Kamelot album.

Also, water is wet.

Huh, I've really never liked anything I heard from them, but this is actually sounding good. Certainly better than that Kamelot album and a lot of other modern prog bands' new albums...

edit: Man, new Kamelot would be so much better if he just sang like this instead of trying to imitate Khan so much. He's got a lot of grit and confidence here, even more than on the good tunes in new Kamelot albums.

I'm liking the new Kwade Droes album on first listen. Reminds me of Wrok, a little Sortilegia, and maybe a little Oksennus too. Cultic butchery black metal with a rough meat-slab guitar tone and unusual-sounding horror movie melody-esque segments.

Sargeist just released a new album seemingly out of nowhere, I had no idea there was one in the works. On first listen it sounds really solid.

I love this album. You described it perfectly, it has a lot of lonely, floating into darkness atmosphere along with some groovier riffs at times. I remember checking out the first album and really liking what I heard, but sort of forgot about it.

I think it's a perfect middle ground between their Let the Devil In melodic sound and their less polished, harsher style. I'm trying to listen to other stuff to not wear it out like I usually do with albums like this.

New Carpe Noctem is cool, I haven't listened to the whole thing yet. I'm still not as crazy about the Icelandic sound as a lot of people. In theory I should love it, but it still has a bit of the Deathspell Omega effect on me. Maybe I'm getting too old.

The new Octaviagrace EP is probably the best thing they've ever done if you're into that kind of thing. I mean, they were never super amazing or anything, but they were never bad, either, and new eclosion would be on my yearly Top 10 list as of now, if I didn't exclude EPs and Compilations on principle.

don't remember seeing split albums here, so no idea if this is ok, but in any case

Abyssal/Carcinoma - Apanthropinization
https://abyssal-home.bandcamp.com/album ... pinization

The Abyssal 4 songs are in the same vein and quality as their previous full length, Antikatastaseis, which is a masterpiece of darkness, despair, madness and brutality all in one

The Carcinoma bit doesn't fall any short from the above and leaves me salivating for a full length of their own.

all in all, a must check for fans of this kind of healthy insanity

Akitsa - Credo might be the best black metal album of the year alongside Mare, Basalte and Cultes des Ghoules. It's incredible.

I listened to it again today and really enjoyed it, definitely see myself coming back to this one a lot.

I also listened to the new Azaghal album and it sounded great, definitely going to have to explore the rest of their discography.

Sargeist had me worried since people were calling it a perfect middle ground of their two sounds, because the whole reason I didn't like Feeding the Crawling Shadows is because it felt like it was trying to be both Let the Devil In and Satanic Black Devotion (both masterpieces in their own right) and just wound up missing both marks. Thankfully, the new one seems to have avoided that. It's the same idea, finding the blend between those two albums, but this one is... well, just better.

The new Sargeist has some great riffs, but overall, I'm not warming up to it at all. They're starting to sound too much like post-Corvus Horna, which I'm not a fan of. It's just more melodic, and the drumming feels different. Even the vocals have a similar vibe, which I really don't like. Feeding the Crawling Shadows was amazing to me when it came out, although I haven't listened to it in quite a while.

I'm listening to the new Outre-Tombe and it's definitely a top release of the year. Some pummeling death metal.

@BH and Ilwhyan I understand both of your points, it's interesting how much people's opinions differ on their last 3 albums. My friend thinks the new one is super boring and just wants them to sound like LTDI again. I'm glad I enjoy all of them! I listened to Unbound again last night and it starts out really strong, I enjoy every song, but the title track and Grail of the Pilgrim are probably 2 of the best songs they've ever done IMO.

tbh i never really got the hype for sargeist, always thought they were a fun band but nothing more than that. Saw them again last weekend and it was fun but nothing more than that.

The new Azaghal is as awesome as advertised.

Can't name an album where drums sounded any better than they sound on this album. Whoever recorded and mixed the drums here, my congratulations, it doesn't get much better than this.

The new Solium Fatalis, Genetically Engineered to Enslave is an excellent slab of Death Metal. I absolutely loved their first release, but the last two albums just couldn't hold a candle to that release. This seems like an inspired return to form.

Love it, listened to a ton already. Probably their best, but I say that every time they release an album!

Indeed, you really can't go wrong with anything they've ever done. It may not ever be album of the year material, but they never stray from their path of good old kick ass black metal.

The new Akitsa is out, more accessable and epic than before, better production, yet still raw dark primitive BM. Top10 contender.

EDIT: I meant to quote Mikey and I quoted Hellbeast. :durr:

Holy. Fucking. Shit.

I predict that this album will resonate with this board at the same level that Monolithe III resonated when it came out.

So are all the Akitsa albums this good? I remember almost buying some and then kind of forgetting about them. All their album art looks like the kind of stuff I <3 the most.

I just found this 1 man ambient/raw/instrumental (mostly) band who’s already released like 10 things this year. The latest EP is pretty damn good and I liked what I quickly sampled on a few others. Entire discography for like $5USD prolly gonna pick it up in a minute here.

Generally speaking, yes. Although the last few have been ever so slightly more accessible than their early material. There have always been significant influences in terms of both noise/powerelectronics as well as punk/RAC, though these have been toned down a little more recently. The older stuff is more abrasive, but it's all fucking excellent. Check out all their works.

I stumbled upon this album on Bandcamp a week or so ago and am now waiting on my CD copy in the mail to hear the full thing. From what I listened, it really did sound pretty fantastic. Also, A+ to that Dodsrit album, that thing rips.

Here's a new band with an original name I stumbled upon recently that I find interesting. I'm still on the fence regarding the vocals, but the music is enticing to me.

Recommended to anyone because this is the sonic attack that anyone needs to be subjected to this year but I would especially recommend it to people into technical grindcore bands like Gridlink or the experimental deathgrind bands like Swarrrm.
