Diamond Head

But this one is the opposite

Weakling

Hehe, yeah, Diamond Head isn't of the heavier variety, more just a name I like.

Hands down my favourite (and already brought up by arnvidr) is Tyrannosorceress.

You can just imagine this evil skinny witch trying to wave a magic wand with tiny little arms and a huge jaw full of knives.

I like KoRn, because in an interview one of the band members said, "its not the band name that makes the band good, you can have any name like korn is a stupid name, but if the band is good, you can make the name mean something"

So even though KoRn is a silly name, I love the idea/mentality that you can make anything out of any name.

Besides KoRn, I like "Born Of Osiris" Just because i'm a sucker for Egyptian metal :D

I like simple and not overly gimmicky. Names like Cannibal Corpse or Necrophagist are just to much. Not because I'm offended by gore but because they are so one dimensional.

One of my favourite band names is Nile. Its just one word but it encapsulates the sound and the feel of the band. It is also powerful in the way the Nile itself is powerful in how it has ruled peoples lives for thousands of years but also in a more direct way in the power of the masses of water bring. It is so multifaceted as a name, yet it is one of the simplest band names around. And it makes for a hell of a nice looking logo t-shirt!

Wolves in the Throne Room - just sounds so cool

Does this mean anything in specific? It is a reference to something? Beside what I wrote above I also like this name but never understood it.

I really like the name Anathema, too. It's just a cool word, and I like saying it. It no longer suits them since they became the most joyful band on the face of the earth, but whatever.

One-word names are often cool: Annihilator, Sodom, Testament, Anthrax, Cathedral, Tankard, Entombed, Asstomouth...
But CENTINEX sounds freaking awesome!!!!! as does Ayreon, which is asically the "band" mastermind Arjen Anthony Lucassen's first name written as pronounced.

More words work for: Edge of Sanity, Grave Digger, God Dethroned, Mercyful Fate, Dark Tranquillity, Grand Magus, Cattle Decapitation...

And the lists go on and on...

Trey Asstomouth is one of the all-time greatest metal guitarists.

Indeed, ingmar birdman!

I also like H.P. Lovecraft's tales about Asstomouth.

Probably not to us Finns, though...

I am sorry to disappoint you but...

Lucassen said, "Though I do like the similarity of the sound of my own name Arjen and the project name Ayreon, this is purely coincidental. Yet no one seems to believe that! Originally I called the leading character of the first Ayreon album 'Aries'. But then I had to change it because it had to fit the meter of the song. I wanted the new name to sound old fashioned because of the medieval influences, so I used the old-English sounding 'AY' (Aylesbury, Ayrshire). But I also wanted it to sound modern because of the futuristic parts ("2084") so I used 'ON' (electron, neutron, etc.), hence 'Ayreon'.

Broken Hope. Unfortunately the music seldom reflects this sentiment but it's such a brutal name but it isn't gory or gratuitous. It's unnerving and dark and realistic

Evoken and Ahab, both funeral doom bands, are simple and effective.

I really like a lot of Blackened Folk/Atmoblack/Ritual Ambient band names. The combo of occult vibes with folky/natural backdrop makes more intriguing names.

Fyrnask
Wolves in the Throne Room
Urfaust
Ildra
Wodensthrone
Drudkh
Falkenbach
Sun Worship
Blood of the Black Owl
Ruhr Hunter
Wardruna
Heilung

There are a few band names i think are really good, or well chosen:

Gorgoroth - Tolkien came up with really cool names for stuff (Dol Guldur, Cirith Ungol, Nargothrond, etc), and this one sounds as desolate and evil as it should

Autokrator - I like this one, not for being a special name per se, but because i feel it really matches the sound and lyrics

Agalloch - unusual name, but one that, for some reason, matches very well their music

Death - simple, yet effective, given Chuck's legacy and contribution to death metal, it's hard to imagine a better name

i have plenty i don't like, or find just plain stupid, but let's save those in case the right thread comes along
