Halloween is just around the corner and I think it would be pretty cool to make a cd comp/mp3 mix of great Halloween inspired songs. The only rules are you can only use certain sub genres like doom metal, gothic metel, horror punk-metal, death, black, ect. But not genres like European PM (Helloween - Halloween for instance), thrash, traditional ect. I'm looking more for feeling and atmosphere that ties in with Halloween not so much lyrics per se. Unless they have both like Acid Witch. And only one song per band can be used. Let's see what you guys got!? My contribution is Acid Witch - Trick or Treat.

the album Electric doom synthesis by Beherit. It's more ambiant and electronic but it fit the halloween vibe pretty well. I used to listen to it during Halloween night.

A lot of Mercyful Fate/King Diamond material has a Halloween vibe to it.

Well of Despair by Skeletonwitch has always seemed pretty gloomy to me, especially in the chorus section.

Angreifer by Unlucky Morpheus is pretty ghostly sounding although I think it's about a vampire.

The Pumkinpatch Murders by Blitzkid is pretty funny Halloween song. Might be a little too tongue-in-cheek for what this list is likely going to sound like though.

Flesh Bound Text and Of Decimus Divine by Alterbeast both nail satanic ritual feeling I think.

EDIT:

One more, Leatherwing Bat by Book of Wyrms. Stoner doom that's got a nice spooky atmosphere going.

If we are making a compilation for Halloween, you need this little bad boy on your list

My choice would be Moonspell - Wolfshade (A Werewolf Masquerade)

That's actually true. So much as Drawing Down the Moon belongs to the summer. And King Diamond makes almost all holidays.

I always love throwing on Protector playing John Carpenter’s Halloween theme. Puts me in the mood.

I'll throw in songs from three of my favourite bands:

Abysmal Grief - Mysterium Umbrarum: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GM3xA4HuJ3U
It's one of their songs that relies more on the atmospheric side of doom metal compared to their other more straight forward offerings.

The Vision Bleak - I Dined with the Swans: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OvuDNlViJNk
One of their best songs ever: awesome melody and amazing lyrics.

Malokarpatan - Cesta podzemnými sálami Kovovlada: https://malokarpatan.bandcamp.com/album/cesta-podzemn-mi-s-lami-kovovlada
Both songs have a nice eerie feel to them (the first one being a pure ambient track).

This!!!!!! Any song will do, but toss "Stoned to the Grave" on there! Or you could just roll with "October 31st" haha.

Also, Druid Lord's "The Evil That Haunts This Ground" is a great fit!

Up to this point I guess it's Feretri for this one has "Lords of the Funerals" which is a doom metal manifesto! But they have amazing songs on all their albums and EPs, singles etc. like Celebrate what they fear, Exsequia Occulta, Radix Malorum, The Hearse, Grimorium Verum and so many more.

Cradle of Filth - Thirteen Autumn and a Widow

Nearly all CoF is great for Halloween, but my first pick is this track. This one doesn't seem to get talked about as much as other songs on Cruelty..., but it's one of my favorites from the album. The opening salvo of riffs interspersed with the synths is fucking spellbinding.

Type O Negative - Haunted

Again, another band whose entire discography makes my yearly October listening rotation, but the final proper track on October Rust perfectly encapsulates this band-- buckets of atmosphere and one of Peter's best vocal performances in my opinion.

Candlemass - Bewitched

I sense a theme here... anyways, I goddamn worship the first two Candlemass albums, but this one in particular stands as a solid pick for any Halloween playlist.

King Diamond - At The Graves

Needs no introduction.

Mercyful Fate - Come To The Sabbath

Like King's solo band, virtually anything from the first two MF albums could make a solid Halloween mix, but this was always my favorite track and for a while my most-played song according to iTunes.

Sunn O))) - Báthory Erzsébet

If you want to turn your domicile into an impromptu haunted house, just dim the lights, spread some rotting animal carcasses across the floor and crank this bad boy up!

I'm all for slow burn songs, but All Hallow's Eve has altogether too much buildup for not enough burn. Leatherwing Bat is just way too much fun to pass up as well.

So that means you are not including Mercyful fate nor King diamond in your comp then, the most halloween sounding/looking metal bands ever. Shame.

Surprised no one has mentioned Death SS

I guess you mean more about aggressive, heavy songs that have spooky themes but still sound rather fun as opposed to just complete nightmare fuel like Lustmord, Ævangelist, Gnaw Their Tongues, etc... correct?

If so, one band does that than anybody else: Deceased.

Deceased are one of the best death/thrash metal bands out there with great riffs and extremely well written horror themed lyrics sung by King Fowley who's an amazing vocalist. Some bands are bands that never released a bad album; Deceased take it further by being a band that never released an album that wasn't good. There's no mediocre moments, all their albums are consistently good, and its quality music for the Halloween season.

That does make choosing a single song more difficult. I'm just going to choose one my favorites and go for "The Funeral Parlour's Secret". Others can feel free to choose other tracks.

This thread, like all threads, could use more Shitfucker (includes two members of Acid Witch).

All Hell have Halloween vibes without being too cheesy. Here's their best:

Some catchy old school Boston hardcore:

Am I the only one who loved "Nain Rouge" from Evil Sound Screamers? For me it was the highlight in an album full of them.

Ok as usual I've got a playlist that I've spend 10+ hours on to shove down everyone's throats: https://open.spotify.com/user/xenon82/playlist/3uVJ9IQZVOjbGzLUzUjVu3?si=nWxkFJMCReqp5usA79XwvA

In terms of bands that aren't on there I'm gonna go with Wormphlegm

Dream Death's Somnium Excessum has some really creepy tracks on it, you could pick basically anything and it'd fit for Halloween.
What you really gotta get, though, is some B-movie horror inspired bands like Frightmare, Coffin Dust and early Ghoul.
