Nine Inch Nails - Last

Love the main riff on this. I think this EP is his best work.

I just don't get tired of this band.

Megadeth- The Emperor

"You even suck the life out of dying."

The cleverest line Dave has written in years.

Yeah, the title track, Wheels of Fire, Blood of the Kings, and Hail and Kill are all great but the rest of the album is totally useless.

I once heard Manowar described as "Half simple muscle bound trad metal, half that scene in Spinal Tap when Nigel plays a guitar with a violin" and I've never heard a more perfect description of anything in my life.

Dimmu Borgir - In Death's Embrace

"Enthrone Darkness Triumphant" is one of my favorite non-trve, unkvlt black metal albums. It's second only to "Dusk and Her Embrace" by that other band in this regard! Really though, it's got some very nice guitar and keyboard melodies, trveness be damned.

Oh come on, Heart of Steel is one of metal's best ballads.

Minor Threat- In My Eyes

Moonblood - Rehearsal 8 - Conquering the Ravenland

Good to listen to when you want to hear lo-fi black metal.

King Diamond - Just a Shadow

Still have a soft spot in my heart for this record, one of the first solo KD records I got. October is King Diamond month!

Hamfreð - Stygd

Slow, meaty death/doom with some mild folk/prog touches out of the Faeroe Islands, singer also did the last 2 Barren Earth albums. Obviously, decent enough for me to bother writing about.

High On Fire- Electric Messiah

dropped the proverbial needle. Let's see how this goes.

Vektor - Fast Paced Life

This song is amazingly complicated but fun to follow along all the different beats.

Rivers of Nihil - Where Owls Know My Name

It's weird but it does have some pretty cool elements. It sounds like if Mastodon and Demon Hunter had a love child.

Manowar - The Lord of Steel

Unpopular metal opinion: I like this album, especially the songs Touch the Sky, Black List, El Gringo and Annihilation. :)

Opeth - Still Life

I'm working on an Opeth discography review series, and this is definitely gonna take the prize as their best album.

Spell of Dark - Journey into the Depths of Winter

Blind purchase from Northern Silence - and well worth every penny / euro spent. Some of the best lurk-at-home-with-a-glass-of-wine blackish-postish-burzum-y metal I've found in a long, long time.

Viking Skull - Doom, Gloom, Heartache & Whiskey

I got this CD from a trade and had no idea what this band sounded like. They remind me of Motorhead with their rock 'n roll swagger but played in a heavy metal template. The songs are catchy and hooky. Can't imagine that this band isn't more famous than they actually are.

Anyone know what the hell is going on with Sarpanitum? I am blasting Blessed be my Brothers (those leads!) and I realized it's been like 4 years since it came out. Their FB page hasn't been updated since 2016 it looks like...

Stereolab - Cybele's Reverie

Can't get enough. A totally weird, unique sound. It seems like they are totally self-possessed and in their own universe and it's kinda awesome for that alone.

Canaan - Blue Fire

One of the most astounding things I’ve heard in a long time. Esoteric, doomy compositions lead by liquid-sounding clean guitars and ethereal keys. The most metal non-metal album I’ve ever heard. Seek this out if you dig mythical, fantastical and epic vibes with lots of melody.

Mercyful Fate - Curse of the Pharaohs

Finally decided to buy Melissa after developing a tolerance for King Diamond vocals through his other band.

Succumb - Coal Dark Earth

Absolutely astounding stuff; still waiting for a more impressive DM album and it's been what, more than 15 months or so?

Damn time flies so fast

Deep Purple- Anyone's Daughter

I suddenly realize why Fireball has the weird reputation of the first three Mk II albums.....

Intentional or not, this is one of the best spelling errors I noticed in a long time, haha. Would be a good name for a cover band...

Gorguts - Colored Sands

The only aspect that could be better is the production, but other than that, this is just brilliant and absolutely awe-inspiring - and on par with “Obscura“ for me.

Manowar - Holy War

As many others have mentioned, the B side of Fighting the World is fucking epic. Too bad the A side is so flawed. The title track is a fucking anthem, but the rest...

Horrendous - The Idolater

This is insane. They keep advancing further every album. They've shed any pretense of cliche or easy-listenability. It's technical as fuck but also just this winding, maze-like cauldron of killer metal riffing and arcane melody.

Decapitated - Perfect Dehumanization

Anticult has lead to this slab of metal and Winds of Creation is on the way. Can't get enough of this band right now.
