Opera IX - Sacro Culto

Just got turned on these guys, great heavy gothic with some blackened touches.

High On Fire- Steps of the Ziggurat/House of Enlil

Probably the most memorable solo Matt Pike has ever laid down.

To this day still the best CDG track, at least in my opinion. Also the first one I ever heard (on the Metalcast I believe).

NP: Solstice - Cimmerian Codex
Oh yeah, this is the stuff. Robert E Howard is still the best literary reference for heavy and doom metal.

Defender - Bright Glare

Sometimes I like these guys more than the Dutch band. Super intense speed/thrash all the way through and the vocalist puts his all into it, lots of Baloff stammering craziness with falsetto shrieks to boot.

Savatage - Gutter Ballet

The title track is playing. Not a perfect album in any sense, but there are some great tracks here and there.

Stormwitch - Priest of Evil (comp.)

Remember there was some talk about this band some time ago. They have some pretty great songs. Rats in the Attic - Hell's Still Alive - Stronger Than Heaven is a good triplet to start the compilation.

I can confirm, Taake slays. One of the better live performers these days. You can't go wrong with a banjo solo

Weird metal at its best.

Mercyful Fate - In the Shadows.

This is a good song, and record, but honestly nearly all the "vibe" from the first two is gone. It just doesn't feel evil.

That was the icing on the cake, i want to see them again Asap :)

Katatonia - In Death, a Song

I've always ignored mid-era Katatonia, but i'm really regretting it. Those melodies are beautiful and the vocals extremely memorable

Kunstzone - What the Mouth Conceals

Very cool song that starts of a bit djenty painted with an industrial brush, which then explodes into a wall of extreme metal a'la Anaal Nathrakh.

Billy Boy in Poison - Morcar.

The looks and name of this band surely does not indicate any death metal, however that is pretty much what it is. Danish sound a la Illdisposed, Blood Eagle and all the other well-produced bands. I honestly blame my wife for putting this song on my Itunes :-P

A hell of a lot of Sodom. You can track what I listen to here.

Délétère - Cantus I – Teredinis Lepra

I think this is my most black metal year yet. De Horae Leprae is really, really solid.

Way late to the party on this one but Signist's one and only release, a demo from 2006. 'Of Worlds, Endtimely Enshadowed' is some pretty good melodeath so far, lots of variety between each song.

Candlemass - "Mourners Lament"

Nighfall is (obviously) a splendid album, and this is one of my personal favorites from it.

Candlemass - Tales of Creation

As iconic as the previous albums are, this one just hits a real sweet spot. They'd really come into their own voice here. Love the punchy, churning riffs, the epic and sorrowful melodies...

Some excellent progressive heavy/thrash metal from my hometown.

As for the banjo: I heard Earl Scruggs once; he set the damn bar pretty high.

Agreed.

Battle Beast- Into The Heart of Danger

I agree with most that the s/t album is a better album than Bringer of Pain, but I still think BoP was a necessary step forward.
