Not metal, but I'd like to pimp Jess and the Ancient Ones's self titled, as I get the feeling a lot of metal fans would be all over that band. Occult rocky stuff, reminds me a lot of Blue Oyster Cult.

Really damn great indeed, it will be in my top 20 for sure, it's linked to metal though with Antti Boman who decided to jump in this bandwagon, can't say I blame him!

Also, for those who like that style, check out Year of the Goat, their 2011 ep was really amazing, they'll release a LP in 2012 I think.

I hate the style, but the Boman involvement has me interested.

Yeah on that running list of my favorite albums this year, Jess and the Ancient Ones is sitting at number 7, and it's the only non-metal thing on the list (despite the throngs of non metal I listen to) because they really do seem to have a strong connection to the metal scene.

Wow, that Devilish Impressions album is very good from what I have heard so far just checking out a couple songs. Haven't heard them before... thanks, BreedingtheSpawn. I also second Lunar Aurora on your list as one of my favorites.

The new Eagle Twin album "The Feather Tipped the Serpent's Scale" is no doubt one of the best releases this year. It's pretty much in the same vein as their debut and their sound hasn't changed much, but it's cool because their sound is perfect for the music they make. And I like how the last album was a concept album based on birds while this one is based on snakes. It's amazing how only two people can come up with such a powerful and heavy sound. Totally recommended!

I love Demonic Death Judge's first full length The Descent. it's a amazing Black/Sludge Metal album ( I would call it sludge with black metal influences because the biggest black metal influences are the vocals, not the songwriting) The songs all have a original feel to them, and the grooves don't die down after two minutes. Definitely one of my favorite albums right now to just blast at full volume.

That was last year buddy :-P. Decent album but I like Kneel a bit more.

The Binah album sounds good from what I've heard, finally got around to listening to a couple of songs. And thanks to whoever mentioned the Charon album, I'm liking this a lot.

Could be a little shorter though..

"Armed To The Teeth" by Striker was really great, the second album this year I would give a 5 out of 5 to.

"Welcome To The Theater" by ReinXeed, fun but nothing great. I would really only recommended it to people that cant get enough power metal.

Also, I finally picked up "Kentucky" by Panopticon (was waiting for a CD release but finally just picked up the vinyl.) Bodies Under the Falls is my favorite song released this year but I dont know about the rest of the album. Its solid but doesn't quite grab me, also has to many samples of people speaking in interviews. I know it relates to the albums theme but I just dont care for it, as it just detracts from the songs.

I'm still reorganizing my top 10 so it may be a wile before I update that.

Yeah man, this is nasty. Not the biggest fan of the drum sound or vocals but those are easily overlooked for the riffs and overall composition. Really wish more of the new wave of osdm style bands played in this vein.

After initial listens:

Those Hypnosia tracks sound HUGE, the songs from Extreme Hatred sound 10x better here. As for Nocturnal Torment, they get a big FUCK YEAH. I love that style of death metal; riff after riff after...:headbang:

Thanks for mentioning this, definitely gonna check it out. Dudes easily released the best thrash album of 1999.

Anyway, both Krallice and Gaza have killer releases out. Most likely both will make my top ten.

I haven't been keeping up with new stuff lately, but the Hypnosia thing seems promising. Best thrash out of Sweden that's for sure. Are there any new tracks on it?

Also interested in Nocturnal Torment. Finally, further listenings to the new Krallice have not yielded much; it's still as lame as I originally thought it was.

It has most (If not all) of the songs from the first couple of demos, as well as 2 covers and a live track.

Winterfylleth's new one is solid. Nothing incredibly solid, but blasting black metal with epic tremolo melodies and intelligent song construction.

Accept - Stalingrad
Eluveitie - Helvetios
Korpiklanni - Manala
Overkill - The Electric Age
Testament - Dark Roots of Earth
Van Halen - Different Kind of Truth (not metal I know)

I bought the new Nile but haven't had time to listen to it much. Someone gave me the new ones from Dublin Death Patrol and Lamb of God but haven't really listened to them.

The new Korpiklaani is surprisingly awesome and that's saying something considering how much I tired of the folk metal bs over the last four years.

For the OSDM people that have been discussing Binah, Puteraeon, etc. you may want to check out Putrevore - Macabre Kingdom (2012).

The new A forest of stars was great as well, I don't get all of the hate for the vocals. They sound just like they did off of Opportunistic thieves of spring

Just listened to the opening track and I would say that Putrevore is a little faster than Rottrevore, but I do see the resemblance. Nevertheless, I was highly impressed. Thanks for the name drop, Misfit.

aww, when the comparison to Rottrevore was made I thought it would be at least somewhat decent, Putrevore is nothing compared to Rottrevore.

I don't feel like finding the quotes... So on the topic of Grave Digger. Clash of The Gods does have some killer tracks on it, but I also get that feeling where the album would be better off a few songs shorter. It is probably going to end up being the album I go to the most (out of their most recent). It does reach the heights of Rheingold and The Grave Digger, but it doesn't maintain those heights. Which is, of course, not to bad, but still worth while as a Grave Digger fan.
