I'm looking for killer metal songs with inspirational, uplifting, and motivational lyrics. I help out with a support group for people with depression and anxiety issues. A bunch of us are metalheads, and I want to make a mix to give everyone to listen to when they're struggling. Stuff like...
Destroy What Destroys You - Kreator
Can't Bring Me Down - Suicidal Tendencies
Wasted Years - Iron Maiden
Live Without Regrets - Amon Amarth
You know songs about overcoming, being triumphant, that kind of thing. The snag is, none of us are really into power metal or hardcore. If we were, this list would be easy. So, I ask you guys. Please throw some good song suggestions out there. Thanks.

I know I'm an odd guy but nothing cheers me up like a good doom album, specially funeral doom, the more depressive and gloomy the better.

Just saying, not everyone gets their mojo up the same way, no matter how epic the music or how "motivational" the lyrics are.

Still, if i were to pick from non doom songs that can cheer me up at times it has to be something like:

Amon Amarth - valhall awaits me
Dark Tranquillity - Edenspring
Keep of Kalessin - the rising sign
Naglfar - I am vengeance
Mercenary - Loneliness

Not sure if those help but...

Hatebreed - any of their music
Killswitch Engage - Save Me, The Arms of Sorrow, and End of Heartache
Gojira - Flying Whales, Shooting Stars, and Backbone
Power trip - If not us than who and power trip
Trivium - Heart from your Hate
Mudvayne - Happy?

Slough Feg. Here's an example:

Also - this is d-beat/crust but I've found Martyrdod to be uniquely uplifting. Lyrics are all in Swedish but as far as the melody goes I think it's what you're looking for. This band is basically the musical embodiment of "hope" - as corny as that sounds:

I'm Alive - Helloween
Change the World - Nocturnal Rites
Destiny Calls - Nocturnal Rites

Septic Flesh's Rising sounds like what are you loooking for! :)

Manowar's Mountains eschews a lot their usual cheesy elements and has a really powerful, uplifting chorus. Worth a listen even for who don't really like the genre

Also Leprous's Triumphant lives up to it's title

Not sure whether this fits the bill, but:
Manowar - Heart of Steel - Mixed messages, it's about hard times, but with that idea of taking control. Manowar is often a bit dramatic though.
Hysterica - Force of Metal - This is a fun band in general, I reckon some women would identify with some lyrics. Try this one.
Thyrfing - Celebration of Our Victory - Pure viking metal. But this one has a very positive tone.
Thyrfing - Going Berserk - Some would say this is motivational. A bit gory though.
Heidevolk - Vulgaris Magistralis - Not necessarily a motivational music, but this is certainly a fun one! It's a cover from a Dutch band made by another Dutch band. You will need a translation. There is a video on youtube with it. Really do check this out!
Judas Priest - Heavy Metal - Underrated, in my opinion, but uplifting.
Destruction - Thrash 'til Death - A bit aggressive, not for everyone, but has a positive tone to it. In a sense.
In Flames - Reroute to Remain - That's from the time In Flames steered away from Gothenburg style. It's a positive music, as far as I can tell. Their lyrics were a bit cryptic.
Arch Enemy - We Will Rise - It's about mediocrity, being better than most.
Judas Priest - Living After Midnight - Party!
Judas Priest - Heading Out to the Highway - Do what you want.
Judas Priest - Leather Rebel - It's all about being awesome.
Iron Maiden - Running Free - Old fashioned rebel spirit kind of thing.
Children of Bodom - Oops! I Did It Again (Britney Spears cover) - It's just fun.

I'll see whether I can find more and more in tune to what you are asking.

Here are some motivational old school songs:
High Power - casse toi
Heavy Load - stronger than evil
Heavy Load - You've got the power
Jag Panzer - hard as steel
Metalwolf - down to the wire ( a bit melancholic though)

Most definitely: Fear Factory "Self-bias resistor"
Spoiler: show
All these years they've tried to break you
To your knees
Anger scours right through your veins

Now it's time to put an end
To all the lies
Now it's time to take control
Of your life

Possibly also Fear Factory "Regenerate"
Spoiler: show
Look in my eyes
Look in my eyes
It's not over
I will survive
I will survive

I regenerated now
I've finally found new ground
Breathing new life now
I will regenerate

You can't kill me!

Destroyer 666 has some triumphant songs: "A Stand Defiant," "Genesis to Genocide," etc.
