I recently got in contact with Charlie McDufford of Dominus about him possibly contributing guitars for the Hollow demo. We live in the same city, and he said he might help out by either playing the guitar, or trying to get me some band mates.

I've played to silence before cause there are a couple of things that are in the works where I just did some drum tracks and they plan on just writing to it. no idea how that's going to turn out. On both accounts they said they can't really write unless they have something to jam to (time keep) so i compiled some beats in some sort of arrangement of a song and sent them off.

I think I'm going to turn the stuff I'm doing for the grindcore songwriting challenge into a full time project. Already have three songs going to make about 5-6 more and release it as a demo or something.

Writing drums for my own project. The guitarist I'm working with (Cole from Lago) will be looking at them once he comes back from his honeymoon.

tell cole that slk said 'vocals are too high'

I've been aggrivating him constantly about their new ep since it was released.

pretty productive day I have to say. I recorded vocals for the 3 remaining scowl songs, now I'll finish that mix up. also did 2 lengthy as fuck yzordderrex vocal tracks.

recording a new draug song and wrote and recorded a song that may or may not be for a new project. I'm not sure how different it is from something else and if i want to try to go with incorporrating something more into what I want to achieve with the new project

Lookin forward to that, Draug is by far my favourite thing of all the material you've put out :)

Gonna be recording guitars soon with my band, drums are almost done.

very cool, I bet that new material is going to destroy!

and thanks! you might be glad to know that I already have a full album written and recorded sans vocals. I was going through some old jumpdrives and discovered some material that I thought was completely lost when my last harddrive broke when my desktop fell while recording. Apparently i had done a mix for my listening and lyric writing. I'm quite pleased with it so all i'm going to do is add vocals and call it a day with that, so there shall be 2 draug albums released pretty close together. or I might just take these 5 new ones I have done and release another ep and write more new material for a new full to space it out more.

Yesterday I wrote another song for the folk metal band. And a song for a black metal project I'm doing with a vocalist, which is pretty fun.

Today I wrote another song for the black metal project, and then wrote a fast angry punky sounding song. Kind of like The Exploited/recent Darkthrone, I guess.

I've got two or three songs mostly written for the songwriting challenge as well, grindy thrashy noise is the order of the day. Might have to write some new lyrics to make it fit the romantic theme I'm going for...

Well the songs that are gonna come from this I'm thinking of mixing myself, so I'll definitely keep that in mind if I decide to do that.

Also, I plan to have both Cole and myself do vocals.

will be done, but you ain't going to hear anything till I have the artwork completed. which is why I stayed home today. and to finalize shit out. I did finish Ishimura album's mix. but that was pratically done when I started since I did like 80% of it prior to getting vocals in. Just tweaked it from there. And I already have artwork/logo and everything completed.

Spoiler: show

well i've come up with an albums worth of songs over the past two weeks, but I'm finding it hard to write everything for them without a band. The drums and the form are the two things i'm having trouble with, but hopefully I can get some stuff written soon and start really recording. also took a picture of my setup right now

The weird shit that can come to you on a dog walk.

So there was a song idea that I got while walking the dog in the late night over here in Connecticut. As I was writing the song, so much was coming that I've decided to take the song's concept and make multiple songs out of it. It's a very 80s horror scenario I'm collectively calling "The Demons That Lurk Within Apartment 153". Think of a Cabin in the Woods scenario of five stereotypical horror victims going into someplace they really shouldn't be going and each being systematically slaughtered in fun, gruesome ways by a group of demonic spirits that haunt an old apartment that a murder took place in. Each song will be following the story with the key part of each song being the deaths of each character. So yeah, very slasher film.

Well it's not exactly Cabin in the Woods since that was also done in part as a huge ritual to appease the old gods so they didn't come back and totally destroy the world... which the ritual didn't go through since one that needed to die actually lived. But I do get what your saying with just the typical scenario that was used as the backdrop. Could be good if all is done right.

Well the lyrics I'm writing for it I might just use in the project I'm doing with Cole, so at least they'll be put to good use sooner than later.

Yeah, after writing a little more, I'm definitely using the Apartment 153 lyrics for the project. After matching the lyrics I have with the rough drum tracks I have, the vocals are definitely gonna be rapid fire on a level similar to some early Slayer.

One of the things I'm thinking of doing actually that only just came to my mind is to write out the notes and whatnot with piano and then send them to Cole to transpose to guitar. It'd be the same notes obviously but since I don't play guitar it'd be a good way to get the guitar ideas I have for these songs out there as well.

yea if he is capable of doing so it's better than you sitting and having to write out a long detailed description on what you want to have played and where you want it played.

Well I also plan to let him have some free reign with a few songs. One thing I'm gonna ask him when he gets back from honeymooning and whatnot is how he is with the aforementioned rapid fire delivery stuff, as there are some freakishly fast vocal lines in this stuff. Think stuff like Decapitated Saints, Slayer's Necrophobic, and Pillars of Mercy. That's how fast some of these vocals are. What can I say, I like writing long, descriptive lines in my lyrics.

Nothing wrong with that. I love using large huge words, but I usually write my lyrics so I can break them up by syllables to space them out through an entire song. I never really did much rapid fire stuff unless it was grindcore.

Well just because, here are the lyrics I've got so far for the two songs I have done on rough drums.

Quote:
Apartment 153: Prologue

Five that fall within the guidelines of the ritual
The whore, the pro, the worm, the fool, and the pure one
They know not their gruesome destiny
It will appear before their eyes in a matter of time

But first they all convene at a place of pure brutality
The place the old ones say to not intrude upon
They know no better than their actions on this fateful day
So despite the warnings they enter this forbidden place

Many ages ago before these five ever came to be
An act of grisly murder took place within the walls
A jilted wife and mother, came home to find inside the bed
Her supposed loving husband with another woman

In a fit of rage she took the axe that was mounted on the wall
And separated the lovers in manners both literal and figurative
To end the rampage she lastly drove the axe between her eyes
Dropping down dead alongside those she just slaughtered

Knowing this the five are most curious as to what this household has become
They wander about the inside, unknowing of the horrors that lurk within
Eventually their presence is brought to the attention of the long deceased spirits
The demons that lurk within apartment 153

Quote:
Apartment 153 Part 1: The Whore

One by one they all start disappearing
First comes the whore, the least bright of the bunch
She lays in the bed where the slaughtering had happened
Further awakening the spirits into physical form

Before her eyes a figure appears; a figure unimaginable
Covered head to toe in what appears to be blood
In her hand is a blade; that can only mean one thing
The legends are true, and now they're coming for you!

As she is mentally defective (as is common in these proceedings)
She knows not to run from this terror
Instead she greets her doom with a dead eyed stare
Curiosity killed the cunt, as the blade comes down upon her

Between her eyes the axe is laid, for it too has become one with this realm
Her skull split open, her face contorted, distorted, aborted from life
The axe is removed and raised once more
Her half removed head is now separated from the neck

She drops down dead from trauma, as is common in decapitation
The figure walks back into the shadow from whence she came
It's time for the other four to be hunted
Hunted and slaughtered as well

There'll probably be some minor word edits down the line, but for now I'm good with these. Prologue's BPM jumps between 175 and 205 throughout the song, and The Whore is 130 with the ending death/thrash part of the song in 190, so you can most likely see with lyrics like this how quickly they'll be coming out of my and Cole's mouths.

Something I'm trying to figure out though is a good name for this project. Musically it's gonna be very blackened death metal; since it's Cole that's in this with me, think of Lago but significantly faster and with a bit of a Death tint to some of the material. Why is it that I always draw huge blanks when trying to name something?

cause you are trying too hard! try thinking of what you picturing for the band musically and then start describing it sorta and then start taking those words and relating them to something that also describe those terms. Or something.

They read pretty well and I can see them coming out like you said. So they would be good, I can't really say much more cause I don't really get interested in them. I like my lyrics odd and fucked up.

which if you have seen any of my lyrics from the challenges... that's what I like for lyrics... so vastly odd and open you can take whatever idea away from them and it might not even be one that passed my own mind. To me they make sense but to others it's just gibberish.

So when i read more standard lyrics... I tend to get bored which is why I don't really bother with reading band's lyrics.

I can do fucked up as well; the first sets of lyrics I wrote when I first started writing stuff were Cannibal Corpse-esq gore lyrics. I might use a lyrical style like that when it comes to some of the other deaths in the album's story.

As for the name, the only one that came to my head that I kinda like (conveniently from out of nowhere, as I previously mentioned happens with me thinking of names for things) is Blasphegram. I really like the word and the symbol it represents (it's actually gonna be the first tattoo I'm getting once I can afford it), plus it's a very death metal name, it fits with the theme of hellish demons, and a quick search of both the Archives and Facebook shows that no other band has that name. I'm thinking of keeping it.

well hell half the battle is checking to see if anyone is using it. Usually that alone sets me to keep a name once I have thought of some. And that's great you can do fucked up, but I understand what you are going for with the concept and all and it def fits. and I'm not sure if you get with what I say fucked up. I mean lots of focus on individual words and how they might work with something that is totally unrelated. something off the to of my head... 'the mathematical underlying consumption of arbitrary congruence'

I've honestly never thought of "fucked up" lyrics in that way.

That's quite understandable. i really don't think anyone else does as well. But it's something I really enjoy. when i'm composing I have the most loose and vague idea in mind as a theme and then I start writing my lyrics and arranging them to where while it still appears as some sort of mixmatch wordjumble shit they make perfect sense to me and tell the story I want to tell. sometimes I do stuff that's a little more apparent and clear depending on the project, like something I would normally write for uzumaki or yzordderrex I won't do in something like Draug or even corpse arise. hell with CA I don't even bother publishing the lyrics cause I just scribble them down prior to recording so I will have something to say while recording. they aren't something I'm really proud of so I rather just not even share them... maybe one day. who knows.

Finally SLK's stuff is sent out. Beyond that, bass is done for track number two. Now moving on to number 3 and I have to begin the writing of track 4. Thinking of an organ intro.
