Well, I'm done with the challenge finally. Gotta head off to work and visit family right after. I'm actually pretty proud to have got 14 reviews out, considering my usual pace is like one every 3 months.

Just finishing up one of my last ones, and then I have one more to do. That would mean I have 16 reviews for the challenge, which means I have done more reviewing in this one week than I have done from November to the start of the challenge.

EDIT: Whew! And thus concludes my seasonal week-long deflowering. 16 reviews done and dusted - a massive step up from the 4 I managed last time.

I wasn't even aware of the last challenge's existence, so you got me on that one.

At 12 reviews this time around and the schedule that I have to adhere to, I'm fairly proud of what I and we have done. :metal:

Didn't get around to the new Dark Quarterer - it needs some more spins before I could confidently review it. But I'm pretty happy with what I got done for this. Good time.

I managed to knock out the latest Obscure Infinity album just before the buzzer, bringing me to what I believe is a grand total of 27 reviews. There were several albums that I didn't get to due to scheduling issues earlier in the challenge, but I came pretty closer to where I was last challenge and I managed to work in a greater variety of styles this time around. I think I hit nearly all of the major sub-genres with the exceptions of progressive and Gothic metal. Maybe next time I'll opt to try the promo swap thingy if we decide to do it again.

To get specific, mine consisted of: Death Metal, Melodic Death Metal, Black Metal, Thrash, Folk, Power Metal, Heavy Metal, Symphonic, Doom, Stoner and Sludge Metal. Yep, only big ones I missed were Gothic, Progressive and Grindcore.

Oh well, next time.

I don't mean to sound pushy, but I reviewed two albums yesterday, and the score for only one of them is showing (non virgin: Austrian Death Machine-A Very Brutal Christmas.) I successfully submitted another review for a virgin album, Sleigh 'Em All-Texas Toast Chainsaw Massacre, and it didn't show up in my score or the list of virgin albums reviewed for 12-24-2015. Could this be fixed, please? Thanks. :)

Hey Roffle! The only albums that get counted for this challenge are virgin albums. Since you reviewed a non-virgin, that non-virgin didn't get counted. Sorry, dude.

Just to clarify here: The one that got counted was "Sleigh 'Em All" as it's a virgin. "A Very Brutal Christmas" was not included.

I can see a total like hells_unicorn's 27 being feasible, but how one manages 17 reviews in one day (TSIR wasn't kidding, that was his most productive day) or manages 65 reviews in a week is beyond me. I would have burnt out at about, well, 16.

Totals aside, props to all of you. That was fucking awesome.

About half of the reviews I submitted on the last day were written throughout the week. Most just needed a bit of fine tuning before I thought they were ready. Actually most were missing an intro or closing paragraph. I knew I was wasn't going to catch dia, so I'm happy with second place!

Those are some really nice totals. I wish I didn't skip one day since participating for all 7 days looks a lot cooler, but I was feeling uninspired. But I had a lot of fun writing and good job everyone. Especially you crazy people writing a million reviews. :P But hey, 5th place looks pretty nice to me, so I'm happy with that.

I don't know about anyone else, but I loved the Secret Satan challenge. I got to know Bastardhead a little better and the vice-versa, an album I have always liked now has a review, and I discovered some awesome music by reviewing a new band. This should be done every challenge, even in the summer.

Well, two of the three that beat you are past and present powerhouses at this sort of thing, so be happy with that! Hell, I am not a reviewer known for sheer volume, so 6th out of 79 is fine by me.

Great job all around everyone! I was hoping we'd break the 2010 collective record, but there's always next year. :headbang:

When I hit 65 during the first challenge that I directly participated in (I did 2 virgins for the very 1st challenge ever done without even knowing that it was going on) I did it primarily by having several dozen un-reviewed albums already in my personal collection and listening to them constantly for 3 weeks prior to the challenge beginning and I basically wrote everything stream of consciousness, sometimes while the album was playing, but most of the time based on memory. On all of the occasions where I got higher than that, it was because the present rule of only 5 singles per challenge was not in place and I was reviewing anywhere from 15 to 20 singles, along with a disproportionate amount of EPs, shorter length demos and compilation releases. I was also doing a lot more live album and video reviews at that time, and I've generally found reviewing live releases to be easier to write on the fly.

But yeah, if you're talking reviewing albums that you've only purchased a few days prior to the challenge and and trying to review them and listen to them during the week of the challenge, getting more than 25-30 reviews would be extremely tough, even if you had off from work for most of the week. About half of the reviews I did this time were promos for The Metal Observer that I had just been given 2 or 3 days prior to the challenge.

Had fun with this challenge even if I only managed twelve this time. It was just a really busy time for me and I didn't have anywhere near the giant list of virgins that I've had during past challenges. Maybe next challenge I'll have a lot more virgins to review and more time to do it.

Secret Satan was fun. I got to see an interesting take on an album I like, plus I got to find a new band to enjoy and follow that I suspect will only get better with time, so that's cool for sure.

My only real regret is that none of the virgins I had on my list were outright bad. Most challenges my list is mostly kind of mediocre stuff sprinkled with really cool things and a couple of real shit releases, but I didn't have anything to totally trash this time. Oh well.

I'm just glad to be mentioned for writing at least one everyday! And I actually wrote 12, not 10, as 2 of them I started one day and then finished the next, meaning they showed up on a later day as being written on a previous day, confusing, haha. Not that I'm that invested in my review count, haha. Great job, everybody! Awesome challenge turnout.

It's good to hear that you folks enjoyed it.

The next challenge will be the spring/summer challenge sometime in May or June 2016. I was thinking of introducing something similar to the Secret Satan - a pool where folks can anonymously submit one or two virgins they'd like to see reviewed, and others can pick and choose from the pool which ones they'd like to review. Of course this would be extra to the regular challenge.

That'd be a great idea Deri. I could offer up a huge list from the Metal Observer promo pool, as long as the writers of those albums wouldn't mind me publishing the review as a guest review on the site or something similar.

I really liked your review. Better written than anything I could have done.

My Secret Satan was an example of a band that ran out of ideas five minutes into the album. At least that was I impression that I had at times.

Hey! I didn't show in the list of participants! I submitted two reviews! Ah, whatever. Lol.

Sounds like a good quantity of reviews this go around. I apologize to Jophelerx for not getting to his secret satan reviewi - just too much stuff going on the past three / four days due to the holiday. I thought I would get to it. I'm still going to write the review for it and post it in a few days.

As always, I love seeing how many reviews were written. It's pretty incredible that people can pump out 50+ in a week. I can't imagine doing that.

I really liked the fact that the challenge was announced on the main page because I would have missed it if that hadn't happened. I don't come on the forum much anymore. Hopefully next one also gets announced the same way, during a less hectic time of year for me.

Having a review "pool" doesn't let the community on this website come together like they should. The more personal exchanges over PM are probably more effective and fun. Not to mention, a bunch of people just dumping in albums, EP's, and demos into the pool that they want reviewed could become a bit too hectic, and I doubt that more people would be as satisfied with the results. I would much rather do what we just did. Thanks.

The timing was a bit inconvenient overall, so I only managed 7 (pretty sure my previous record was somewhere between 9 and 12, can't remember, don't care enough to look up), but it was a good time and I'm glad it was such a success this time! The last few years had been kinda scant and I was starting to worry that they'd never get back up to their former glory. Glad to see I was wrong. Excellent job everybody!

I echo Roffle's stance on the matter of a virgin pool. I much prefer the idea of a one to one exchange of albums, for it is indeed more personal. Had that pool been used here, I wouldn't have got to know TSIR at all, and the possibility of future album swaps with him would never be a thing. The Secret Satan is far cooler in that regard, and prevents a huge backlog of virgins that no one wants.

Many thanks to my boy omnishadow for giving me some last-minute recommendations. I covertly committed to the challenge about a week beforehand, and began compiling a list.

In the end, I did zero singles and only 2 or 3 EPs, if I recall correctly. There were still at least 10 I didn't get to.

Meanwhile, I did 7 singles and 2 EPs; which is terrible. I must ask, were my reviews falling into the trap of being a vague, lame mass reviewing of singles or were they detailed enough?

I hope you're not asking me... my reviews suck ass!

I'll answer though: I would say that your style is tailor-made for handling singles in environs such as the challenge, because you can write a lot and retain interest without deviating or losing focus.

It was an open question, though since you offered me advice originally on reviewing singles, it was kinda directed at you. Thanks for the feedback, I now know this is a strength I can play to.

Aww c'mon, you are sounding like me here. No way are your reviews in the 'suck' category, look at the shit in crappy diem, oven fodder, or here.

If you are joking, well fuck it, I wanted an excuse to slag off M_T90.
