I´d like to get in touch with the most disturbing/ eerie albums ever made,
music that is really extreme ghostly and oppressive
maybe there are some i did not stumble upon yet.
what are your best recommendations?

Well, there's not much to go on in the OP. What genres are you into?

"Ghostly and oppressive" brings to mind some of the material that Mortiis released for his Vond project. It's maybe more depressive than disturbing, but it's certainly eerie if you're in the right (or wrong?) mindset. It's also not metal.

Shining is a band that built its career on being dark and eerie. Their album V Halmstad is their greatest album, in my opinion. Mixing mellow acoustic music with surprisingly groovy and kickass metal riffing, with the vocalist sounding desperate and unhinged, but not in that typical DSBM way. It's more grounded.

If you are looking for weird experimental stuff, you can't be limiting yourself just to metal, as there is a lot of music out there which is really disturbing that isn't connected to metal- various dark ambient, experimental noise projects for example.

For black metal-related ambient stuff I can think of a couple: Striborg, Ctenizidae, Embillilugugal, Brenoritvrezorkre, Drekevak (Ohio). Stuff that is extreme and underground even for the extreme underground. And I don't claim to be an expert who knows every band, these are just a few I stumbled across over the years.

Have you listened to Samael's Worship Him?? That is my kind of the darkest of the dark...like a rotting carcass amidst the slime and mire...

I would not limit it to metal, so other genres are welcome

Elend could fit the description.

Samael's Worship him is pretty dark- Hellhammer-influenced suffocating black metal. Good choice. Deafhaven are good, but a bit too melodic to be considered "Darkest of the dark" to me. Not saying I don't like them, though- just doesn't fit the thread description in my opinion.

Vagezaryavtre- now, that's a pretty wierd, experimental studio project by the same group of French wierdos who do BrenoritVrezorkre (who I mentioned above) and Belketre. That's what I'm talking about, eerie, dark, atonal and with a disturbing vibe to it.

I'm 99% sure that was a joke.

If you want something dark, then you need to look in the direction of gothic music in German. For example, L'ame Immortelle. Although the gothic gloom has its own charm. I like to listen to this kind of music in the mood.

I keep harping on this because it has genuinely disturbed me to my very core, but Fluids’ use of actual cartel torture/murder video samples is about as dark as it gets. The music is pretty fucking dark and grimy too.

Looking beyond metal, there are some death industrial artists that might pique your interest. Brighter Death Now (especially Necrose Evangelicum and Pain in Progress), Atrax Morgue (although some of their stuff crosses the line from dark to just kind of corny and silly), Anenzephalia, etc. Some of Prurient's absolutely mammoth discography could fit as well; my go-to would be Black Post Society, which has just the right intersection of oppressive, violent noise and dismal atmosphere. And if 'extreme' and 'oppressive' are what you're after, you can't get much more of either than from power electronics artists like Sutcliffe Jugend, Pain Nail, and Deathpile.

I've always found Skinny Puppy to be very dark and unpleasent to listen to.

Always found this very dark, cavernous sounding - listen to the whole thing in order with the intro, though - doesn't do it for me chopped up into tracks ! https://swallowed.bandcamp.com/album/lunarterial

I think Devil Doll and especially Mr. Doctor's voice makes me have some odd feeling when I hear their albums, and I don't think any other band makes me produce those unusual emotions that this band does. I hear a lot of experimental music, but Devil Doll is just something different I can't explain it with words.

It depends on what genre you're into and how you define "dark."

I find Katatonia to be some of the darkest stuff around (especially the earlier albums). Strapping Young Lad's album City is as dark as it gets. For more recent albums, Kwintessens by Dodecahedron is one of the darkest, most disturbing albums that I've heard. Perhaps above all, Insomnium are masters of creating dark and cold atmospheres with their guitar melodies. I'd just suggest taking the time to explore people's recommendations.
