This is a band I just found today who aren't even on the Archives yet as their debut doesn't release until May 14.

It's quirky, forward thinking, weird heavy metal with some seriously distinctive vocals - chanting and almost operatic even as the riffs are classic metal styled. The songwriting on this really impresses me. It's strange occult stuff like what I used to expect from Root. It feels like those older Eastern bands, with ultra-melodic stylings and a sort of brazen irreverent feel.

Here's the press release from Cruz Del Sur...

Quote:
An epic journey through the darkest Ages!
Pestilentia is the first single taken off Sommo Inquisitore's debut album "Anno Mille".
Conceived and forged in secrecy during lockdown and released independently on CD format by Metal Resistance HMC - Roma, the Grand Inquisitor's music blends epic/classic heavy metal with medieval/traditional Italian music.
Sung in Italian language, as it must be, and self-recorded by the band, the 8 tracks featured on "Anno Mille" are a wild ride through war and torture, plague and witchcraft, faith and obscurantism, religion and superstition.
Judgment is at hand, expect no mercy!

This is a band's/club's self-release. The proceeds from CD/merch sales will be reinvested in producing the second album (currently in the works).

And here's the full album for maniacs like me who bought the thing after hearing the preview tracks: https://www.youtube.com/embed/voPn6br51 ... AxMPfFUeq4

2/2 for you this week on the reccomendations ! great stuff. See what you mean about the vocals too, you're definitly not going to mistake this guy for a Dickinson clone.

Have to say I really liked the Malmsteen-y soloing on the track 'Pestilentia', and the complete lack of modern chug sound in general. Parts of it put me in mind of Gamma Ray or Stratovarius in places, which is no bad thing !

I've also pre-ordered, there's two maniacs at least :D

Glad you dig it. This is definitely up the alley of people who like plain weird shit like Master's Hammer, Root, Slough Feg, Hanker - just oddball heavy metal riffing that never quits.

My CD turned up today, given it a couple of spins now - and yeah, the riffs don't stop. Flicking through the booklet did get this reaction from my wife "you've not bought MORE Witchfinder General records ?!"
