Majestic Downfall - Collapsed Pitch Black

Melodic, yet appealing doom/death metal - an album full of long compositions can be risky, but this guy pulls it off well here.

Grab the early split with Ansia if you can - great stuff on there too.

Silver Synthetic - Out of the Darkness

Starts off with a Cult / Bolshoi style intro, and then into some Beatles vocal harmonies. Magic this record is.

Usually not a fan of split albums, but it could be worth it!

NP: Majestic Downfall - A Dying Crown

Based on the new stuff that I've heard, this new album should be worth checking out. Just more familiar, yet versatile doom/death metal stuff.

This album might be the sound of summertime really.

Excalion - Trust

New singer is so damn expressive, and the music is just back to basics old school Euro stuff. It sounds powerful and energetic and that is everything it needs to be - this song in particular has such an amazing chorus.

Heavenly- Ode to Joy

Make a new album already please, also with more scantily clad women.

Anthrax - Black Lodge

Some would say Grungthrax and I can see it. Still a killer cut.

Alluvial - The Deep Longing for Annihilation

This album is on my personal "albums that have glaring flaws but I have a soft spot for, for some reason" list. I've always felt the production is a bit weird/thin (though sounds good with some EQing) and a few songs are a bit too much of a "riff salad", but the whole thing has this really gripping atmosphere and stunning riffs for days.

October Tide - Fragile

Could do with some more sticking riffs instead of prominent leads but this is pretty decent either way. Certainly better than Grey Dawn from what I remember at least.

Sommo Inquisitore - Anno Mille

This is a really fun slab of just pure riffs and glee. Creative melodies just sprouting up like natural grown plants. I wonder where this band will go from here.

Blood Incantation - Vitrification of Blood

I was hooked when I heard this back in 2019 - tremendous melodies + riffs.

Tomb Mold - Planetary Clairvoyance

Okay, this has been a trip. I listened to this album months ago and didn't like it. I assumed I was just too much of a metalcore/deathcore kid to get down for "real" death metal. However I am relistening to it and...this does fuck. Quite hard. These riffs are just really damn good.

I am still not a fan of the usual vocal style death metal uses though. Completely emotionless and monotonous.

Instanzia- Charming Deceiver

11 years, I still don't think these guy's are active but hey. Album is a straight killer and this song gives off that melodic cold feeling I love so much.

Marble Sheep - The Interval of Recollections and Memory

I picked up half their discography on Bandcamp a year ago and still haven't gotten around to listening to it, but this tune is a psychedelic masterpiece.

Nothing is better than to spend the cool night listening to some Lamentation.

Tristitia - Crucidiction

Not sure why I didn't get into their first 2 albums when they were initially released. Esp. since I tended to buy anything on Holy Records back in the 90s.

Majestic Downfall - The Brick, the Concrete

Surprisingly aggressive from time to time - a nice addition to these otherwise melancholic waves that you can't escape from.

My favorite thing they did since the 80s.

Slayer - Raining Blood

This is a hell of a way to wake up.

Old Mother Hell - Lord of Demise

A mighty stomping metal anthem.

Alluvial - 40 Stories

I was a little unsure how it would sound without Keith Merrow and with vocals, but this sounds massive and pretty Alluvial still. Those thick clean vocals are amazing. Curious to hear the whole thing.

Kalmah - Evil In You

Damn, last time I heard this was 20 years ago! Still, the song sounds so fresh and better than then! I should go revisit their catalogue...

Helloween - Dr Stein

This is the version from the Pumkins United Live DVD - excellent all round - and I'm pretty sure that Kai throws in the riff from 'Green Manalishi' right at the end :D
