Helloween - Robot King

I never thought a song with this title would be as much of a layered power metal epic as this is, but here we are - definitely pretty close to their best recent songs like "King for 1000 Years," "Occasion Avenue," "Nabatea"...

Carcass - Kelly's Meat Emporium

Not bad; pretty fun shit.

Obliteration (Nor) — Nekropsalms

One of the most criminally underrated death metal gems out there. What an old school vibe it’s got going for it.

Iron Maiden - Women In Uniform

A great cover and good to hear Di'Anno singing this classic, but the Aussie in me can't help but like the original Skyhooks version more.

This sounds goth as fuck.
I'm into it.

Blazon Stone - "Into Victory"

They might as well call themselves Running Wild 2. This stuff is so cool.

GRIP INC - Enemy Mind

What are you waiting for?
Enemy at my door, what are you waiting for?

Geees, what a blast that is!

Empyrium - The Days Before the Fall

Laying on the atmosphere in buckets with the goth-atmo approach taken on 'Turn of the Tides'. I really appreciate the lack of harsh vocals on this one too - the gothic cleans add to the atmosphere in a way that sub-BM screeches don't, for me.

Unleash the Archers - Hall of the Tide

"Time Stands Still" is their first truly good album, imo.
The first two lack focus, though they have their shining moments.

System of a Down - Soldier Side

For some reason found myself in a SOAD mood today. Already knew I liked Toxicity and the self titled albums but was surprised by how much I enjoyed Mesmerize and Hipnotize. Don't think I've gave them a fair chance back in the day, but there are some really cool songs there.

Amon - Liar In Wait

I remember being excited that Amon was returning so that I could hear some pre-Deicide madness. Wishful thinking

Altaria- Innocent

One of my favorite "eh" power metal songs. There's nothing special. But I'll tell you one thing, that riff is the one of the more catchier ones that I've been having stuck in my head for years.

Pharaoh - Will We Rise

Understated hit on this album - the lyrics are blatant and vicious and the music is pummeling, garroting complexity. Tim's vocals in the chorus are great too, a haunting kind of thing they haven't tried before.

Celtic Legacy - Guardian Angel

This song has such a great chorus and the music's got this nice stride and bounce to it. A feel-good tune.

Grotesque - Blood of Summer

This is some serious sludgy, occult-esque gothic metal. As if Fields of the Nephilim decided to take a more intense direction while borrowing a heavy-as-hell guitar tone you'd expect out of a modern Paradise Lost record. Very cool stuff.

Swallow the Sun - Hate Lead The Way

Running through their discography in chronological order. It's been a while since I've listened to Emerald Forest and the Blackbird and I'm kicking myself.

Damageplan - Crawl

This riff is so juicy. Groove Metal that sounds like it is a spy movie! R.I.P. Dime and Vinnie!

Anthrax - Room For One More

Been spinning this album more lately. Bush is killing it on this track. Charlie is his usual great self.

Man, that instrumental section is pure transcendence...Remarkable, simple and effective!

This lineup was killer, and the other drummer (Coady Willis) just played his 1st show with High On Fire.

Rituals of the Dead Hand - Blood Oath

From the same guy as Hemelbestormer. Black/doom with the Bockereyders (goatriders) as lyrical concept. Good Stuff!

Paladin - Fall from Grace.

Always thought these guys reminded me a bit of CoB but with a lot of clean power metal vocals, mixed with the odd growl. Blasts and double bass all over. Love the lead work.

Great shit. Seeing them live in August.

Black Sabbath - Black Sabbath

Gotta return to basics sometimes. It's still a fantastic songs, even 50+ years later.

Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds - Ghosteen

Music can really affect you - this is ultra calming synth and piano stuff and pure atmosphere that can have this ultra soothing, meditative effect. Brilliant if mood music in the extreme.

Great split for a good mix of raw black metal and dark ambient

Paatos - Silence of Another Kind

I think they reformed. A new album would be nice.

夢中夢 (Mutyumu) - イリヤ -Il Y A-

I guess if Gonin-Ish can release a new album after an absurdly long layoff, this band can too.

Vexillum - The Marketsquare Of Dooley

It's Elvenking but Damnagoras doesn't have trash vocals and doesn't ruin every album he's in.

Centaur - ...Perception...

90s German power metal reminiscent of (later) Angel Dust. Not as good obviously, but still not bad.

Maiden - The Aftermath

Everynow and then I go through a "Blaze wasn't that bad" phase, and every time I hit the same conclusion as with the Ripper Owens Priest albums - they're just dull. Maiden and Priest should be either really good (Painkiller, Sad Wings, Seventh Son, NOTB) or really hillariously bad (Wasting Love, Priest lyrics about giant penises). Dullness is a crime !
