^Love me some Black Breath, Repulsion fuckin rules!

NP: Minotauri - II

Fuckin hell! This kicks ass! Thick, meaty doom in the vein of Pentagram and St Vitus with Ari's distinctive vocals on top. I got Mintauri's first album in '04 (Morningstar fan) but never got around to this one, damn.

Necrophagia - Blood Freak

"Like a Fulci nightmare". Anton Crowleys riffs simply crush and kill all in their path, while Killjoys sick and depraved vocals and lyrics take you into that nightmare. "Through the eyes of the dead I kill". I love it.

Woods of Desolation - Torn Beyond Reason

Oh how I wish this project started doing stuff again. It's been seven years since anything from the guy.

Paw - Death To Traitors

Not as heavy as the opener 'No Such Luck' but the title track has a great chorus.
The band members at this point wanted to go in seperate directions (singer hard rock/guitar player more country) but they pulled off a really awesome compromise.

Suicidal Tendencies - You Can't Bring Me Down

Hats off to Rocky George for that soaring intro. So good!
Sounds very close to Dimebag at that time.I wonder if they jammed it backstage at some point.

Holy Knights - Between Daylight And Pain

Not bad. Sounds like a completely different band to that on the first album though.

Amon Amarth - Ride For Vengence

A bit rougher than later AA I've heard but still immediately identifiable.

Alkaline Trio - Love Love, Kiss Kiss

This may actually be the worst of the band's Dan Andriano-led song by a mile, and he normally has the good songs on the weaker alk3 albums ("Agony & Irony" is one of the weaker ones). I hadn't put it on in years and I now fully understand why. Youch.

Bal Sagoth - Battle Magic

This or Chthonic Chronicles may be my favorite from them now - just so inventive with these keys and arrangements really. A crazy individual band. Like who the fuck ever thought of doing this much narration in this kind of band? Just so weird and unique. Moreso it's also such a bold sound that it becomes instantly compelling. iconoclastic and absurd.

Led Zeppelin - Kashmir

Despite my absolute love for the most extreme metal genres, it's still hard to find a better song than this.

No metter how many time I listen to it, it still sounds as good as the 1st time. If anyone asks me what timeless means, this song is the answer.

Suffocation - Thrones of Blood

Continuing on with my Maryland Deathfest playthrough, we have this skull crusher of a death metal song. Equal parts brutal and technical, Pierced From Within was easily their best album!

Sanctuary - The Year the Sun Died.

This is better than Nevermore. Yup, all of it and it aged very well throughout the last years.

Coroner - D.O.A.

Some of the best tech-thrash for sure! The entire album is an absolute ripper back with insanely skilled chops, an absolute riff-fest!

Descendents - Tired of Being Tired

"9th & Walnut" is a pretty damn fun album.
Definitely sounds like oldschool early 80s Descendents, which isn't surprising since these songs were mostly written with the "Milo Goes to College" line-up (some were written pre-Milo though). The instrumentals were recorded - with the original line-up - in 2002 and the vocals were recorded in 2020, though. A nice trip through time, I suppose.

New Model Army - Green and Grey

A really rich, somber epic of a tune. You get to hang onto every note. Vital, powerful stuff.

Fuck this is a good record. I hadn't heard much between Tunolea and Skyforger. This is sweet.

Big D & the Kids Table - Too Much

Not only has this been a pretty good year for power metal so far (my favorite subgenre of metal to this day - sorry!), it's been a good year for music under the punk umbrella too. One of my favorite ska-punk bands is back with a banger of a new single.

Iron Maiden - El Dorado

This along with some of the later Sonata Arctica stuff may be the biggest disparity in how I see music and how other forum regulars do that I can think of. Loved this album since the day it came out. Epic and energized material all around. Dripping with soul and vitality. More challenging songs than their albums since the 80s ended by a lot.

Iron Maiden - The Educated Fool

As a millennial with an education, but not so much else, the lyrics are sadly a bit too relevant for me. Perfect lyrics for an existential crisis.

Internal Aeon - Gods On-Demand

Pretty crazy Industrial Blackened Death Metal... the songs have a nice mix of electronics and Metal aggression. As a whole... it is pretty fun!

Thought they had a good run of closing songs on their reunion albums. Not Rime of the Ancient Mariner good, but still.

Tad Morose - Undead

It'd been a while since I really gave this a good listen. I think what always made this a cut above everything else was just the sheer mysterious, arcane atmosphere. I had always been attracted to that kind of thing. And this was a band at full power in every way.

Just saw Urban breed has now left Serious Black too, which I guess means he's not really in any bands right now except Project Arcadia which seems defunct to me. Weird.

Aborted - Terrorvision

Aborted's run of excellent albums in the 2010s is one of the best stretches of quality record after quality record in all of death metal. It's doubly impressive when you remember how badly the band started losing the plot with their post-Goremageddon albums. It wasn't until the Coronary Reconstruction EP that they finally got their head out of their ass and started making great music again.

Amon Amarth - Once Sent From The Golden Hall

Why didn't I buy this album earlier? A nice cut with all the Amon Amarth I'm looking for. Love his vocals and the riffage.
