Just saw this. I always go back to their classic albums with him.

https://www.facebook.com/OfficialMetalChurch/

RIP. Great singer. Guess it's time to revisit these albums for a much worse reason than I'd hoped.

Ugh, can’t believe it. One of my favorite clean vocalists, dude had so much power in his voice. Going to blast Blessing in Disguise. Fuck this sucks…

Horrible news. :( Only 55, too.

Blessing in Disguise and Hanging in the Balance are among my favourite Metal Church albums.

I have very fond memories of blasting Hanging in the Balance walking around my neighborhood the day I graduated high school. That stuff has always stuck with me.

Man, this came the right fuck out of nowhere. He was always the best of the Metal Church singers in my eyes and his voice held up incredibly well with age. Definitely gonna be playing some of his stuff tonight.

Wtf. This is unbelievable, only 55. Gone way too soon. I really dug his vocals for Metal Church and Heretic. RIP Mike.

Terrible, sad news. What an incredible voice. I’m going to have to listen to Blessing In Disguise later in his honor.

I actually forgot that David Wayne passed away 16 years ago too. All the best Metal Church albums... RIP

So sad to read, and forewarning of this at all from an outsider view. Just getting into this band the past year, kind of unbelievable how long I slept on them. The metal world is definitely a poorer place having lost both singers way before their time.

Aw what the fuck. Those last couple of Metal Church records really hit the spot for me. I was so excited about having him back in the metal world. RIP to one of the all time greats.

What the actual fuck?

Does anybody know anything? This man looked like a goddamn hero, his voice was still in great shape and he's actually the healthiest looking guy of the whole band :(

A great album. And then things got even better and more varied on the follow up album with Mike. Expand your damn horizons. Fucking people, man.

Here's a terrible realization; Mark Shelton died on this date too three years ago.

Oh god damnit, another one taken too soon. Totally didn't expect this one. Damn good performances on those older albums, haven't heard as much from the newer but I know he was more than welcomed back by fans.

Guessing they just don't want to reveal it and need privacy right now. It happens a lot like this with random unexpected deaths.

Surprised how much this one affected me. It'd been a minute since I'd played any Metal Church. But they were never really too far out of any playlist and I'd always turn on Blessing or Hanging now and again. There was just always something quite cool and personal and emotional about Howe's stuff.

As been said, this came completely out of nowhere. His voice was certainly a feature of my early metal-discovering years and he's been on some really high-quality and classical albums.

I've only got the debut by MC but he was a good singer and too young. RIP.

Fuck I just read that David Wayne as dead as well. Shit.

As I haven't listened to a lot of later MC what is the best example of Mr Howe's vocal prowess?

I'd recommend trying out XI as well. While it does lose a little momentum toward the end, the songwriting is especially inspired for a late era and Howe's vocals are incredible throughout.

I played XI for the first time this morning - way too long but there are some gems in there like "Sky Falls In" or "It Waits."

Even "Damned if You Do" has a few good songs, despite it being brickwalled as fuck.

To be honest, those two reunion albums wouldn't have worked as well with a different singer.

I remember liking Damned if You Do a bit better, but both are pretty alright albums, they just pale in comparison to how inspired the band used to be. It's like the case with many old bands where they're just not really innovating much anymore, just sort of going through the motions but much less interesting than before. But the riffs are fine and yeah, Howe sounds excellent.
