Not sure if this has been posted yet, but I stumbled upon this gem earlier this morning and was surprised by its quality.
The soaring melodies reminded me a lot of Windir.

Yeah Duskmourn is an incredible band. The last album was/is amazing, too (the 2017 or 2016 one).

Leiþa - Sisyphus
https://noisebringer-records.bandcamp.c ... m/sisyphus

Another great debut, this time from Germany. Black Metal with some nice progressive and Jazz lines. Maybe not for the purists of the genre, but if you keep an open mind it might surprise you.

Damn good hypnotic DSBM in the vein of stuff like Krohm. Think this project has some serious potential.

I'm digging this, thanks for the rec.

I quite liked that song. Thanks! I'll check out the rest of the album as well.

This one hasn't been mentioned yet.
Ninkharsag - The Dread March of Solemn Gods
https://ninkharsag.bandcamp.com/album/t ... olemn-gods

They're a black metal band from the UK. I found the few songs I've sampled very enjoyable. No doubt, the Dissection vibes are quite strong in this (not just the cover art but the music too). It's melodic, fast and catchy and I think the vocalist does a really good job.

Just listened to this atmospheric black metal record from Bizarrekult and I have to say it's really good.

I know people here are already raving about it, so I just wanted to reiterate that Këkht Aräkh - Pale Swordsman is a pretty fantastic album. I'm stunned by how 'pretty' it sounds, yet reserves the unique atmosphere. Brilliant.

Funeral Pile - Evoked in Flames

Blackened Death/Doom Metal by way of Germany. Out today, this was a cool surprise when I sampled some of the songs and then checked out whole album. There's a huge emphasis on mid-paced melodies that build, change, then circle back. There's also a wide array of lyrical topics which is a bit refreshing.

Netherbird released another solid melodic black metal album last week. I think I like this one more than Into The Vast Uncharted, and that album is no slouch either.

World of Sorrows by Dungeon Serpent is a beast.

They are listed as 'Melodic Death Metal' but this sounds nothing like what we've come to understand as MDM. This is closer to a grubbier Dismember.

Just listened to this. It has some nice moments, but isn't as consistently good as I wish it was, just like his even more electronic-focused side project NeuroWulf. Maybe it's just because I actually listen to a lot of pure electronic music and can afford to be pickier, but it's hard to find bands who do both the metal and the electronic underpinning to my liking. Sybreed is probably my favorite exception to this.

Not only remind! Those opening notes are pretty much identical to Svartesmeden og lundamyrstrollet, until the end of the riff/progression veers to more minor territory. At first I felt salty (Windir's song being an all-time), but the song grew on me. It's actually a great sound and use of the inspiration they have. Now I think it feels like it's a deliberate tribute riff, tbh.

Yeah, that's another exception, though still not nearly as much as Sybreed. There are a few others, but still, I'm disappointed when I check those sort of bands out more than I'd like to be.

I'm really digging the new Dvne album, they've got that prog/stoner/sludge sound down pat, and managed to do a good job following up the Omega Severer EP. I'm not sure if this is as good as Asheran, but it's definitely one of the best releases in this genre I've heard so far this year.

I'll second this one. It's up there in my favorite releases of the year so far. I can't decide if I like this one better or the new Panopticon, but they are my main contenders for AOTY.

I'll make sure to look through the rest of the thread for things I might have missed.

The new Antediluvian album got released today by surprise and it's fucking wild. It makes Portal sound harmless. Non-stop demented primitive death metal with counter intuitive and crazy drumming, tons of pulsating and repetitive riffs, psychedelic solos... There's even a trippy jazz section. In other words, I'm impressed.

Ad Nauseam, Qrixkuor, Altarage and Antediluvian... it's been a pretty strong year for weird death metal.

So I gave the new Aenigmatum release a listen front to back and I quite love it. Reminds me of Stargazer but leaning into the tech a bit more, sucker for the Tom sound and the fretless bass. So yeah Stargazer, Floridian Death Metal and the jazzy tech of Atheist and Cynic all mashed together.

Yeah, the new Aenigmatum is really good. Along with the VoidCeremony release from last year they really scratch that itch when it comes to bands similar to Stargazer.

Another release I'm really digging is the new album from Bohemyst (featuring ex-members of Avenger and Master's Hammer). Really good black/death metal.

The new Krigsgrav album is also pretty good, solid melodic black metal with touches of death and doom thrown in.

This is great news, thanks for the heads up. I don't follow a lot of active bands anymore, but they are definitely one of them. Now if only Negative Plane would come out with something new, life would be complete.

Well that was fast, they removed it already. They must have made a mistake, because now there is only 1 preview track at that link. They didn't even add the second preview track that debuted the other day. The whole album is out there though now, on the world wide web. If you know where to find it...

For those that want to hear the second preview track

I gave the new Morning Dwell album a listen the other day and really liked it. Not original at all, but I found it catchy and infectious. Worth a shot for fans of Euro power metal if you haven't heard it yet.

Also stumbled across the new release by Prestige - pretty good thrash album I thought.

New Antediluvian album, The Divine Punishment, is now out. It's fantastic and their best to date. Really wild and complex in its atmospherics. I know it'll only grow on me too, with more time.

liking this quite a bit - their logo looks like a mix between undergang and hyperdontia, and listening to the album, i'm wondering if that's not a coincidence :)

The new Wolves In The Throne Room album is a great piece of atmospheric black metal drawing on influences from a lot of pagan folklore and I think it's perhaps their most concise and cohesive release to date

The new Woman is the Earth, "Dust of Forever" might be my album of the year. Only two listens so far, but I was pretty impressed.

I still have the new Wolves in the Throne Room and Deafheaven on the docket for tonight, so fingers crossed for a close 3-way battle.

I was literally coming to post this album.
I didn't have much expectation for this one as I like some of their stuff but not all of it, but I enjoyed this one a lot on one play through. (Though I do like the WITTR album better)

Yes, received the CD a couple of days ago. They definitely upped the melodicism (in a NWoBHM way) this time around. Really strong material that doesn't deviate too much from their black speed formula, but settles into a nice anthemic niche. I dig it a lot.

The new Fluisteraars album Gegrepen Door de Geest der Zielsontluiking was released today and it's an absolutely fantastic piece of black metal. They've gone a bit back towards the rawer sound of Luwte & De Oord compared to Bloem but songwriting still feels like a seamless continuation from their previous full album. The 20-minute third song is some journey. Incredible band: https://fluisteraars.bandcamp.com/album ... ontluiking

A band that is once again flying under the radar big time is Purification, who released their newest album in June. They released not just one but two very good trad doom albums last year and this new one, The Exterminating Angel, is another great full length from this amazingly consistent band. I particularly love the vocals, the singer Marshall William Purify has a really charismatic style and voice. The first three songs of the record are my favorites, especially the opener which is a banger: https://purificationdoom.bandcamp.com/a ... ting-angel

Might as well mention another thing released today while I'm here, a split with Ascended Dead and Atomicide released by Dark Descent. A vicious piece of OSDM that does not exactly hold anything back. From the two I prefer Ascended Dead side but both bands rip: https://darkdescentrecords.bandcamp.com ... -atomicide
