Yessir! That concludes my riddles. I had one non-metal left:

If somebody wants to think for some other time, I'll leave the solution in the spoiler:

Rich Kids on LSD (RKL) - another punk band, but very peculiar and technical, lots of excellent guitar- and basswork. Shame they suffered several deaths in the lineup.

The Hounds of Hasselvander?

Five minutes ago I didn't even know the band name.

Riddles of this sort remind me of some kind of hypertext: Edgar => famous works => respective band => former drummer => drummer's portfolio => Does anything smell of wet dog here?

Here are a few more:

Dark colored day of religious observance

Traitorous disciple preacher

Medieval torture device

Forgiving and leniently spared destiny

Someone who kills (most likely with a sword)

Divine messenger of god combined with (evil?) enchantress

The first three are correct. And your answer for the last one is freaking hilarious and quite clever. That's actually even more fitting than what I had in mind. Well done sir! But it is an actual band name, a hint being that it's a well regarded NWOBHM band with an iconic debut but not too many other albums. And there's still the other two riddles as well.

Mercyful Fate

Correct!

There's still two more to go. I already gave a hint for one of them (the divine messenger/evil enchantress) in my last post. As for the other one (the being who kills), it's a very well known and popular metal band, even to non-metal fans. I would say the subgenre, but that would be a dead giveaway.

Slayer

Yes indeed. Although for the second one my original intention was gonna be Annihilator, but the more I thought about it, the description seemed even more suited for Slayer so I changed my horses in mid stream with my hint. Either answer would have acceptable, but I probably should have kept my original idea. It would have been less obvious.

Skimming through the song titles, the only one that translates easily into Latin is "Where Do You Think You're Going?", and I see that the archives list two bands named Quo Vadis. But it doesn't fit the other criteria.

Ah, good one. Yeah, it's the only phrase that came to my mind immediately. I guess they can all be translated into Latin, technically, some more easily than others. :D

EDIT: But you should have said "minus one word and PLUS one letter".

What does this mean? I don't get the word. Just to avoid misunderstandings: When you wrote "RJD and sharon osbourne" I understood the answer as a voluntary waiver of the proper answer (which you knew) in favour of a joke, and I thought the joke was funny and stayed on the ironic level. If you were being serious: sorry, then I misinterpreted the situation.

this specific one i honestly thought would be obvious. it's a mix of greek tragedy tropes and metal history...

It's (Sid) Vicious Rumors!!
There aren't many punks that can be called truly legendary. "Nasty" is a synonym of "vicious", and the clue imitates the voice of someone spreading rumours.

2. Sounds a bit like the co-founder and president of Atlantic Records and is the pope's fave.
Clue: Two words: 1st: almost a homophone, 2nd: canonised.
Solution:

Spoiler: show
The label's co-founder is Ahmet Ertegun. So the band is Armored Saint!! In British English, "Ahmet" and "Armored" sound almost identical.

5. One's thread was cut by Atropos a long time ago, the other's being watched with Argus eyes.
Clue: The names are, perhaps, more insightful than the sentence they're embedded in. Focus on the names. Slash would probably disclose the solution, Axl wouldn't.
Solution:

Spoiler: show
I hoped the mere mention of one of the Fates and Argus in the same sentence might ring a bell. :ugh:

It's Arduini / Balich
(ex-Fates Warning – slash – Argus – [bye, Axl, you're of no use here])

Their album is pretty good, some of the guitar parts sound like early Fates Warning:

Zero Hour... perhaps?

For a second I thought Reclvse (but it could also be The Nonvoter [Un-]Font :crash: )

these are all correct, except for Threshold, Zero Hour and "not the party type". you got the genre right, but "before it breaks completely" are from the same continent as 5 & 6, not 1-2-3 :)

"time not displayed on the clock" is not a prog band. and I was gonna say that "Zero hour" does get displayed on the LED clock, but the one I mean doesn't, but sometimes it does, depending on the settings. thats a big clue :D

"Recluse" is the correct meaning for "not the party type", now you need to think of a much better known band whose name means "recluse" :)

I know all these bands, but i would never have thought of them. if I compiled a top ten of legendary english punks, sid vicious would not even make the top 30 :/ maybe as an also-ran :D

I 've lived in the uk, there's no way "Ahmet" and "Armored" sound the same anywhere. maybe if a geordie with a speech impediment was comin out of the dentist, and even that's a maybe... :D

I don't get the arduini balich slash axl thing but nevermind. it's late and i had a busy day so its on me :)
