About Sorcerer's artwork for their cover version of "Gates of Babylon":

Metal Shark wrote:
It sure does! That one might be intentional, though.

The similarity between the "Headless Cross" cover and the artwork used for the cover version of "When Death Calls" was intentional, too. Of course!! I actually really like those pastiches / parodies of classic album artworks, here's one by Anthrax: https://www.metal-archives.com/albums/A ... rax/655900

Now playing: Megadeth - Dystopia

Hit and miss, some strong tracks, some mediocre tracks.

Anathema - Distant Satellites

Another modern classic....it emits a truly tangible intensity that few records do (metal or otherwise).

Stormwitch - Walpurgis Night

What an album, and what an album cover. Would love to own this on LP

Pagan Altar - Flight of the Witch Queen

This thing begs to be played during this season. Brilliant evocative guitar dialogues.

That album features interesting ballads, well-executed leads and a village-rambling vocalist...but I never understood the hype of it.

This is seriously the most accurate description of Terry's vocals I've ever seen haha. God rest his soul.

Hangman's Chair - Lost Brothel // My favourite doom band in the world right now. This song is absolutely crushing.

Bloodbath - Grand Morbid Funeral

This one seems to get some grief due to people not liking the vocals. I love it though...

Wind Of The Black Mountains – Sing Thou Unholy Servants

Love this album, iconic artwork, and I'm glad this has een reissued this last month.

On a hilarious note, the back of the album jacket has a photo of one of the band members fucking someone doggystyle and its absolutely hilarious, reminds me of that Demoniac album with the dudes from Dragonforce...

Thorns - Thorns

Yeah, it's Thorns. Maybe a couple listens behind with this, all long time ago. But now is the time.

Phrenelith - Awakening Titans

Less Incantation sounding than their first album, sounds like they are trying to develop more of their own sound. Looking forward to the rest of the album!

Estrangement is such a great album!

Death - Individual Thought Patterns
Pestilence - Spheres
Athiest - Elements

Been time travelling back to 93 again. All very cool albums that were pushing boundaries, including mine, which was great. No robot vocals thankfully, that was a boundary I couldn't cross.

Suffering Sights - Punishment Voids

Sounds a bit like recent Ripper, minus the obvious nods to their influences...not sure if it's exactly my thing, but I can tell that these guys take riffy thrash/death metal very serious.

Unto Others - Little Bird

Holding up pretty good. I think the diminished poppiness has done them some favors.

Nocturnus - Thresholds '92
Nocturnus - S/T (EP) '93

Fuck I dig Nocturnus. The keyboards took them to another dimension of evil. Another trailblazing band like Pestilence, Coroner, Anacrusis and Athiest who gave up far too soon.

Iced Earth- Burning Oasis

This is honestly IE's creepiest song. Those dark melodic riffs and Barlow's high wails sound even more menacing compared to the more popular songs from Burnt Offerings like the self titled.

Demoniac - So It Goes

Really digging this so far, sounds like a German thrash take on Coroner with a touch of prog/jazz to keep things interesting.

Seems like tech thrash and brutal thrash are the way to go when it comes to newer thrash metal bands.

Denial - Abominable Undead

A bit surprised to see Demilich appear as number one on the similar artist page of this band. I'd argue that this sounds more abrasive than Demilich, even if it also features some puzzling riffs here and there.

Wampyric Rites - The Tragedy of Existence Part II

Raging hatred in places coupled with howling agony and organ keyboards. From The Drowning Void split with Vampirska who are also very intense on this. Awesome screaming into the void vocals from them on the flip side.
Want more from Vampirska now.

Darkthrone - Wake Of The Awakened

I was spinning Arctic Thunder again after being told it was 5 years old this week and decided to play Eternal Hails...... again. The difference in sound is stark when you compare the two back to back.
Really like the music on the new one but the sound is quieter and muddier and i don't like it.Still no idea what the lyrics are about but i won't give up on it.

Autumn - The Phantom Limb

This band's combining of these mellow slightly proggy syncopated rhythms along with these great vocals is really inimitable. Gorgeous stuff. Good for the season.
