In just nine days, "The Metal Tour Of The Year" co-headlined by MEGADETH and LAMB OF GOD will lay waste to cities across North America as the highly anticipated trek finally hits the road. MEGADETH has just announced that joining them to take care of bass duties for this tour will be former MEGADETH member James LoMenzo.

MEGADETH leader Dave Mustaine commented: "I'm happy to announce that former bassist and MEGADETH alumni James LoMenzo has graciously stepped in on 'The Metal Tour Of The Year'. Tour rehearsals just began, and we cannot wait to start crushing North America."

LoMenzo added: "I'm super stoked to be rejoining MEGADETH for the upcoming 'Metal Tour Of The Year'. There are no better fans than MEGADETH fans, I can't wait to get out there and shred some MEGADETH music with you all."

Rounding out the lineup for "The Metal Tour Of The Year" are TRIVIUM and HATEBREED. Produced by Live Nation, the rescheduled trek will now kick off on Friday, August 20 in Austin, Texas and hit a further 27 cities before wrapping in Quebec City, Quebec, Canda on Saturday, October 2.

LoMenzo joined MEGADETH in 2006 and appeared on two of the group's studio albums, 2007's "United Abominations" and 2009's "Endgame". He was fired from the band in 2010 and replaced with returning original MEGADETH bassist David Ellefson.

In addition to MEGADETH, LoMenzo has played with Ozzy Osbourne, Zakk Wylde and WHITE LION. For the past eight years, LoMenzo has been performing with iconic rocker John Fogerty.

Mustaine has yet to reveal who played bass on the new MEGADETH album after David Ellefson's tracks were removed from the LP following his dismissal from the band in late May.

Ellefson laid down his bass tracks on MEGADETH's sixteenth LP in May 2020 at a studio in Nashville, Tennessee.

In July, Mustaine announced during an episode of his Gimme Radio program "The Dave Mustaine Show" that Ellefson's bass tracks would not be used on the new MEGADETH LP.

In early May, on the same day that sexually tinged messages and explicit video footage involving Ellefson were posted on Twitter, he released a statement on Instagram denying all social media chatter that he "groomed" an underage fan. He also filed a report with the police department in Scottsdale, Arizona alleging unlawful distribution of sexually explicit images of Ellefson by unknown offenders. In the report, Ellefson admitted that he had been exchanging sexual text messages with a Dutch teenager, who captured a video of several of their virtual "masturbating encounters" without his consent and shared them with friends. (According to Ellefson, the woman was 19 at the time of their first virtual sexual encounter.) The 56-year-old Ellefson, who lives in Scottsdale, first became aware of the video on May 9, when the claim "David Ellefson of MEGADETH is a pedophile" appeared on Instagram. Ellefson told police he was notified on May 14 by MEGADETH that the band would be parting ways with him. Three days later, he was fired.

On May 24, Mustaine — who formed MEGADETH with Ellefson in 1983 — announced the bassist's departure from the band. Two days later, Ellefson released a follow-up statement in which he vowed to file a "defamation lawsuit" against the person who "illegally posted a very private video" of the bassist and made "false allegations" against him. He also said he was working with the police in Scottsdale "in their investigation into charges regarding revenge pornography to be filed against the person who posted the video. This person will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law," Ellefson wrote. He went on to say that he was "taking this time to be with my family" and wished his "bandmates" the best with their upcoming tour.

Ellefson was in MEGADETH from the band's inception in 1983 to 2002, and again from 2010 until his latest departure.

Makes sense. Should be pretty easy for him to step back in considering he already knows a good share of the material.

Easy, yes, but what a boring choice. I want Joey DeMaio in Megadeth :)

He would insist on Megadeth encoring with Achilles, Ecstacy and Agony.

Look for LoMenzo to be fired after the upcoming tour, after it is revealed that he had a cousin with a best friend who VOTED FOR BIDEN.

LoMenzo's metal resume isn't something to sleep on, but Megadeth's hired-gun-member-turnover is starting to get as boring as every album they've put out since Countdown To Extinction.

I'll give you that - Youthanasia is probably on par with CtE with both the good and the bad/boring

Megadave should have tapped him for the Supercollider album. After music as heavy and technical as John Fogerty, that album would be a breeze.

I wonder who the guy who re-did the bass tracks is. It sounds like it's not LoMenzo, but it might be. Thoughts?

Dave is ranting about "medical tyranny" at shows. How predictable. I mean the guy once inserted himself in the Northern Ireland troubles.

https://youtu.be/K96auHG1ud0

“Right now, what's going on is tyranny. This is called tyranny. Look it up when you get home. And tyranny isn't only in government. Tyranny right now is in the schools and tyranny is in the medical business. We have the power, especially us heavy metal fans, we have the power to change things. If you look what happened in the Middle East right now… I said it a long time ago with this next song, 'Holy Wars.’”

Lol. What a prophet.

It's been next to impossible to take MegaDave seriously for almost 2 decades now.

As an aside, I attended their gig at New York's Jones Beach this past Sunday. Musically, they were stellar, although the set was fairly light at only 12 or 13 songs. But - and this is a good thing - Dave was nearly impossible to hear. His singing was inaudible, as was his between-song banter. Literally couldn't hear a word, as he was incredibly low in the mix. Again, his voice is crap and his opinions are worse, so I didn't mind it!

Funny because I saw him Saturday at Blue Ridge Rock Festival and he sounded really fucking good for everything he's been through recently with his health. He didn't say too much between songs and kept the banter to minimum.

Interesting.
Jones Beach is notorious for bad sound, so he may have actually sung well.....but i just couldn't hear it. LOL

Yep as much as people called BRRF a shit show for a multitude of reasons, the sound for all of the bands I saw (Clutch, Suicidal, Anthrax, Body Count, Mastodon, Hatebreed, Lamb of God, C.O.C. and Megadeth) was really good.

This whole tour announcement reads like a fucking joke. Who in their right mind calls their tour "The Metal Tour Of The Year"? It sounds so pretentious and juvenile. Not to mention that 3/4 the bill is metalcore and hardcore bands.

It's also pretty damn pathetic and sad to see a guy who wrote thrash metal classics to whine and bitch like a spoiled brat because of sanitary measures (which are supported by healthcare specialists, by the way) being enforced to try and reduce the very real effects and very real threat of the pandemic we are facing now. A tyranny... get the fuck out of here, dumbass.

Megadeth is basically dead at this point. I used to love this band, but I wouldn't even go see them if you gave me free tickets. Mustaine doesn't deserve an audience for the shitshow he has been putting on for the last two decades.

What's even more hilarious is that he assumes Megadeth's lyrics are social commentary and that he has astute political opinions. Super Collider was dreadful lyrically as it was musically and Dystopia was not any better. God only knows what crap awaits the fans via his ramblings on The Sick and The Dying or whatever that new album's titled.

Just call it Populist Conspiracy Thrash Metal at this point, Dave.

Gotta shut up to keep that paycheck rolling. You're just on a contract if your name isn't Dave last name Mustaine.

This is, sadly, very true. Mustaine has a long history of using talented musicians and throwing them out whenever he feels he's sucked out enough of them, or whenever they step out of line just enough.

I've lost a tremendous amount of respect for him and, sadly, the name Megadeth over the last decades. Mustaine is such a piece of shit, but with the notoriety of Megadeth, he basically has an endless waiting line of people who would jump in at a moment's notice if he asked them to join the band. So there is basically nothing stopping that megalomaniac narcissist clown from going on and on and on.

I'm pretty sure that the guys in the band don't agree, or at least not entirely, with the stupid rants he goes on during shows, but they probably won't ever step up to him to tell him to keep this shit out of the shows.

That John 5 song was actually pretty cool! But! Man, you could have Bruce Dickinson, Mike Patton, prime Halford, Lord Worm, Daniel Gildenlow, Matthias Blad, Warrel Dane --whoever, pick your favorite vocalist!-- singing those lyrics and they would always be horrible and completely wreck the song beyond the first novelty play.
It's a testament to Dave's poor judgement that he signed on for that, I suppose.

^ Those vocals sound like they were written for Marilyn Manson. Or maybe John 5 got caught in writing vocals suited to that style.

It's not a bad song/performance but Dave Mustaine as hype man is real goofy.

No, he's all about speaking HIS mind. You can be damn certain any of the other guys would get fired if they said anything that doesn't align with his broken ass worldviews. The guy doesn't care one bit about justice, democracy or freedom. All he cares about is that he doesn't have to deal with any kind of minor inconvenience on a personnal level to try and protect other human lives.

playing in Megadeth is a good trade-off. puts someone on the map to a much larger extent that playing with Jag Panzer, Soilwork or Angra. otherwise why would Kiko quit the band he co-founded?

Loomis in AA and Broderick in In Flames is much more lower key, but everyone has bills to pay. playing metal to full houses beats flippin burgers or emptying garbage bins.

don't be too harsh on people you don't know, in situations you can't imagine.

I wouldn't say covering Friedman and Poland solos is a walk in the park. Even Chris Amott solos aren't exactly easy. Overqualified is more like Broderick in In Flames, Bettencourt playing for Rihanna, or Thomas Lang playing for B*Witched. Whereas playing challenging tech death isn't even gonna pay for gas money to make it to the next city.

Anyone who has a solid career as a dedicated live musician for a major star has definitely earned it, since that has its own set of challenges (arrangements that shift a lot, the need to deliver mechanical precision every single night for sets that are often two or more hours long, often having to do choreography while playing, the sheer scope of the production for bigger artists, etc.) - someone like Sugarfoot may not be doing anything technically dazzling (though he certainly has it in his repertoire), but he kept a gig as Michael Jackson's dedicated drummer for decades by delivering drum machine-tight performances every single night no matter what, and that's an impressive feat.

Do you know him?

Have you spent time with him?

And even if you would dislike him what does that have to do with other people liking or disliking him?

You project your feelings on other people. You must have a hard time understanding why anyone can be friends with someone you aren't (or wouldn't). Or why anyone doesn't dislike a person that you also dislike. You must lead a tough life!

Not much in the way of reading comprehension there, huh?

Do you know him?

Have you spent time with him?

And even if you would dislike him what does that have to do with other people liking or disliking him?

You project your feelings on other people. You must have a hard time understanding why anyone can be friends with someone you aren't (or wouldn't). Or why anyone doesn't dislike a person that you also dislike. You must lead a tough life!

Imagine stanning Dave as a person. Imagine.

Uh guys....there are first-hand accounts all over these interwebs of ex-bandmates of Dave Mustaine's and people from the scene who recall having a hard time working with him.

It's not far fetched to imagine he's terrible. Come on. It's not just about his political views either (which are steeped in conspiracy theories), some of his douchey antics (like electrocuting Ron McGovney) are well documented.

I mean, his history speaks for itself. He was such a violent, angry, egotistical, substance-addled asshole in Metallica that he got kicked out and sent home in the middle of a tour, and anyone who has ever been in a touring band will tell you that if you fire someone in the middle of a tour, it's because they were such a destabilizing presence that it came down to either firing them or ending the band. Instead of, y'know, maybe taking a step back, examining himself, and realizing what a piece of shit he was and trying to change for the better, Dave just stayed mad and decided to show them, without ever really truly learning anything about himself, and repeated all the same issues. It's pretty telling when the dude is sixty years old and has long been a legend in his own right, but is still clearly bitter about being kicked out of Metallica almost forty years ago.

I find myself shocked at "defending" Mustaine, but assuming he's still the "violent, angry, egotistical, substance-addled asshole in Metallica" is beyond far-fetched... he has since become a businessman, a husband, a dad, a car mechanic hobbyist, found god, had hours of therapy... he may be occasionally talking out of his proverbial a**ehole in public, but I don't think he'd be hard to work with anymore.

as a sidepoint, watch the gibson icons interview and tell me you're not feeling sorry for the dude for the whole duration:
