Cradle of Filth - Suffer Our Dominion

COF and Doug Bradley are always a welcome combination tbh. Glad he guested on this (fantastic) new album!

Extreme Noise Terror - Show Us You Care - Live Leeds 1986

First song of the night? Don't know wasn't there but a real tight rhythm section beneath all the chaos.

The question is, were the instrumentalists able to influence Efemey's production decisions, or was it all his agency? Neither their documentary nor Laakso's book goes much into the detail about creative choices, recording process etc.
All I can say that those studio recordings of theirs will go on forming a misleading impression on the generations to come regarding the versatility of their then-frontman. Shame.

Night Fighter - Barbaric Cruelty

Grinding guitar tone and a top notch descending huge riff headbanger.
Too many over the top metal moments no matter what song so i'm picking this one.

Reverend Bizarre - The Hour Of Death

This album gets into the true gutteral sound of doom.
So heavy!

Panic - Mutilator of Bodies

Raw Brazilian thrash/death metal that reminds me of Mutilator, but with gruffer death metal vocals instead. The mid-paced sections aren't always that inspiring, but the ravaging tremolo riffs sound rather furious. :)

Mark Lanegan - Scraps At Midnight

Love this album. Sad nostalgic songs.

Groovie Ghoulies - (She's My) Vampire Girl

Obviously I have to bust this band's albums out when it's October.

Bethlehem - Dark Metal

Brings me back when I was 15 and the only black metal I knew was this and Burzum.

Iron Maiden - Stratego

Time to listen to Senjutsu with new ears after a while. Not a perfect album by any means, but still I'm so glad that we got it. This and the last song alone make it for me.

Expulser - The Unholy One

Yet another Brazilian early thrash/death metal band that definitely leans more towards the latter. I'd argue that this almost sounds like a ''polished'' variant of Sarcófago's I.N.R.I. with some nods to late 80's Sepultura here and there. Very cool stuff!

Grave Desecrator - Rise to Destruction

Falls somewhere between the intense style of the early Cogumelo Records bands and early Bathory...good mix.

Fates Warning - A World Apart

Fantastic; the mood and structure of this.

Deathspell Omega - "First Prayer"

Was out looking at Halloween decorations last night, and this really suits the mood. The black metal/ritualistic sample combination is so effective.

Perverse Rites - Chapel of Lust

More blasphemous thrash/black metal with vomiting vocals, blasting drums and a rollercoaster of riffs.

Ulver - "Eos"

Hard to find music much more beautiful than this. The release of it was pretty much the origin point of getting into ambient music, modern classical, and becoming more interested in atmosphere in music rather than overly focusing on technicality.

Iron Maiden - The Parchment

Hard to find time to play this with all the other new shit I've accumulated. Not a very crucial issue to be sure. That said it's still better than most of what I've heard this year metalwise anyway. This song is definitely in my top 5 post-80s Maiden songs.

You can't go wrong with Scorpions of 70s or 80s. Well, that's my opinion.

I was on a AIC kick

Alice in Chains - Facelift
Alice In Chains - Dirt
Alice in Chains - Jar of Flies
Alice in Chains - Alice in Chains
Alice in Chains - Black Gives Way to Blue

It took forever, but I am finally getting into the material after Layne passed. My favorite is and will always be Dirt, but I finally enjoy Black Gives Way to Blue. Its missing that dark ambience, but is still pretty good.

Jimi Hendrix Experience - Voodoo Chile

This guitar playing is just otherworldly.

King Diamond - Abigail II

Yep, and home to the phenomenal chorus of "Spirits":

Spoiler: show

The album's nowhere near the original "Abigail" but that song's so great. Where did that come from?

My Dying Bride - A Map of All Our Failures

One of my favorite albums from MDB. I especially love the production on this that really highlights the brooding, personal apocalypse vibe at play. The title track is a lumbering thing of tragedy.

Good call. It's definitely their best of the last decade, IMO. (But ALL of their albums are good to great. Nary a weak link in their entire catalogue.)

Yeah...and speaking of album titles, this is one of the more well rounded ones that aptly describes the general tone and lyricism of the album.

Sorcerer - The Crowning of the Fire King
This album contains hooks galore; pristine, clear vocals; great melodies; it's the overall package.

Perfect music for autumn, as well.
