Cradle of Filth-Black Smoke Curling from the Lips of War

I'm enjoying this song a little too much.

Rocking the fuck out.

Pagan Altar - Rising of the Dead.

Always incredible. Integral to my life even. Special fucking band.

The Breeders - Cannonball

Sometimes I prefer this over the Pixies.

This and "The Dying of the Embers" are my two favorites on the new album. They both seem to have one particular thing in common...

The Antichrist Imperium - Elegy

Such an underrated act.

Dream Theater - Sleeping Giant

An absolute banger in an album filled with bangers. Really enjoying the new album. The band hasn't been this energetic since Train Of Thought. So Heavy yet so diverse at the same time!

Really a speed metal album…but a very good one…

Savatage - Edge of Thorns

One record from them I keep coming back to. Along Gutter Ballet. That guitar work is something.

God Dethroned - The Day You Died

Tasty little power ballad coming from, well, blackened death metal band...

Cryptopsy - None So Live

I usually don't like many live albums, but this one is pretty decent.

Grave Desecrator - Insult

Still has that blackened death-thrash thing going on, but it just doesn't sound as exciting as the debut did. Too bad!

November's Doom - "Harvest Sycthe" from Aphotic

This song, album, and band kick all kinds of ASS! Seriously under-appreciated masters of modern deathy doom.

I always have trouble deciding which album of theirs I like best since they're fairly consistent, with no obvious masterpiece and also no clunkers. I think at the moment this might be my favorite though, although I also listened to Nephilim Grove a few days ago and it's even better than I recalled as well.

NP: Crypts of Despair - "Choked By the Void"

Good chance of being in my top 10 I suspect, I keep coming back to it. It has the perfect balance of melodicism and dissonance to remain intriguing, but not fatiguing.

Maybe I should try Nephilim Grove again, I remember liking the single enough. But the only full album of theirs to stick with me has always been Pale Haunt Departure.

Jon Oliva's Pain - Afterglow

Massive classy piece of rock music.

Historically it was often that one, though The Novella Resevoir and Into Night's Requiem Infernal were more salient on occasion.

NP: Sulphur Aeon - "The Summoning of Nyarlathotep"

I have no idea how the riffs are so catchy and melodic while incorporating just about every note in the scale.

I remember liking some of the other ND stuff OK, but Pale Haunt really just pulled everything together - what a marvelously sad, terrifying piece of music.

Sulphur Aeon kills. Very consistent band so far.

Anacrusis - Grateful

Those little symphonic touches amid the Metallica-esque chugging and labyrinthine writing make this a real delight.

"PHD" is definitely my fav ND release.

Revocation - "Scorched Earth Policy"

A tad of recent discussion makes me return to probably my favorite song of theirs. I love the stick clicks before the second verse, and that intro solo smacks. Whips? Flogs? Can we get a new cliche other than "slaps?" I can't stand that one for some reason.

Slayer - South of Heaven
Slayer - Seasons in the Abyss

Good ear cleaners after having overdosed on melodic and kitschy music in the last couple of days.

Smashing Pumpkins - Silverfuck.

What a raging track! When it explodes out of the soft middle bit its pure intensity. Off the best rock/alt album of the 90's IMO. Chamberlin is a fucking beast.

black midi - Ascending Forth

Cavalcade will be among any self-respecting "best of 2021 music" wrap-up. This closing track is my personal favorite.

There was such an insane amount of hype surrounding that album that I finally relented and gave it a go a few months ago. I did enjoy it, but I think it was built up too much. There are way too many other albums I've enjoyed more though, but it'll probably still be an honorable mention on a longer list.

NP: Oceans of Slumber - "A Return To the Earth Below"

Dobber is unfairly good at arrangements, very few drummers could get away with that many fills and still make it feel organic while not burying the killer vocals.

Overkill - The Years Of Decay

Amazingly consistent band when you think of it - those early albums were all great...and they seem to have been on another streak since Ironbound

Mercyful Fate - Angel of Light

More direct, definitely even more pugilistic than the last one before it. Pretty good though.

Mercyful Fate - Mercyful Fate EP

The precursor to Melissa, almost has the same sounding production. Legendary

One of the times where I'd say the hype is well deserved. Or maybe I'm too much of the target audience for this kind of band.

Witchcross - Fit for Fight (Great! "Rockinnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn the Night Awayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy!")
Oz - Fire In the Brain (CLASSIC. This might be a perfect album).
RUN-DMC - Greatest Hits (GREAT. And they're right, you know... it IS tricky to rock a rhyme!)
Iron Curtain - Danger Zone (Good!)
Epoxies - Stop the Future (Do you want to hear a new wave/electronic version (w/ a female singer) of the Scorpions classic "Robot Man"? SURE YOU DO! It's great, and the album is pretty good).

I love the atmosphere of this album. I hope to see something like this on the new album!

Battle Beast - Master of Illusion

I'll probably like their next album if this new single's anything to go by, and I kind of hated "No More Hollywood Endings" so this track's a pleasant surprise.
Still, I won't waste money on a preorder. I got burned last time, dammit.

Polish death metal from 1989...has more of that 80's Brazilian vibe going on though.

That kind of 80's training montage metal is really what they do best. Been spinning that track a bunch lately, new album looking to be their best in a while I think.

Threshold - Fighting For Breath

Kind of a hidden gem on Dead Reckoning for me, for some reason it only struck me as a big stand out in the past year or so. That riff and harmonized vocals in the chorus, beautiful stuff.

The atmosphere in this one is amazing. I always love playing some old school dungeon synth at night.
