Motörhead - Overkill

Best album, hideous production.

Chelsea Wolfe - Destruction makes the world burn brighter

Cool tune from her most sonically layered album.

What? Rock 'n' Roll rules. It has only three "lesser" tracks (Traitor, All for You and Boogeyman), but those are very enjoyable as well. The other six tracks are pure classics, even if a bit underrated.

Iron Maiden - When the Wild Wind Blows

Just had a moving moment couple of days ago, when Eugene sang this on The Walking Dead. Yes, that series is still new to me.

Swallow the Sun - This House Has No Home

Otherworldly excellent song, and the clear highlight of Moonflowers, IMO.

I'm not a huge Immortal fan, but that's a great album.

NP: Tatir - The Invitation of Heralds

Can't beat these lush, yet stinging riffs; very evocative stuff that brings to mind some pre-Christian-esque civilization.

Woods of Ypres - Against the Seasons

Finished that Immortal album. I guess I'm in a black metal mood now. I haven't listened to the old Woods material since before I was really into black metal, so I'll probably like this album more.

Cradle of Filth - Discourse Between a Man and his Soul

A more atmospheric mellow track on this album. Good work by Dani.

Iron Maiden - Back in the Village

I hope I can get tickets to the next leg of their "Legacy of the Beast" tour. They just announced it yesterday. Anyways, this song rips (as does every single track on "Powerslave" obviously).

Pentagram - Gonduz Gece

This is a wonderful album of melodic metal, truly smart, powerful, heavy stuff. One of those cool underground gems.

That part starting at 48 seconds is so God damn epic and emotional I fuckin love it lol

Megadeth - Five Magics

Listening to shame all the folks who think Holy Wars and Hangar 18 are the end-all of RIP. This song rules! So like, are ye ashamed yet?

Not at all! That's always been the best Megadeth song for me! :-D

The fact that Maiden never played this song live is a fucking travesty.

Wardrum - Sands of Time

Holds up very well. Not quite on the same level as Awakening, but god DAMN does it feel good to have them back.

Lord - Immortals

Still hitting the spot... just about as well-rounded and earnest as this style gets, a real powerhouse.

Manilla Road - The Riddle Master

Sometimes I don't trust people that are into metal but don't at least kinda like "Crystal Logic", tbh.

Cryptopsy - None So Vile

This classic needs no description. But "bururuurururuur" might suffice.

I even love "All for You". Don't know what's wrong with it. The chorus is sooo catchy.

Continuing with Motörhead:

Spoiler: show
Motörhead – Bomber
Sounds more like the desert sands than "Ace of Spades". It's a bit slower than "Overkill" but "Dead Men tell no Tales", "Lawman", "Sweet Revenge", "Stone Dead Forever", "Bomber" and the B-Side "Over the Top" are top-notch.

Motörhead – Ace of Spades
Some classics, some fillers, really hit and miss. It's a shame that many people see this one as Motörhead's signature release.

Motörhead – Iron Fist
Maybe the first Motörhead album that was noticeably influenced by the NWOBHM, i.e. it's less bluesy and i.e. they'd arrived in the 80s. Hidden gem that should have become a classic: "Speedfreak". Great riffs in unknown songs: "Go to Hell", "Loser".

Motörhead – Another Perfect Day
Never liked it. Is it really more sophisticated or just more complicated than it needs to be?

Motörhead – Orgasmatron
Dirt, soot, coals. Best one since "Overkill". "Built for Speed" and the title track are amazing.

Motörhead – Rock 'n' Roll
Fantastic commercial album. Melodies for the whole family (and the dog).

Motörhead – 1916
Good commercial album with an unusual title track.

Motörhead – March ör Die
Bad commercial album with an unusual title track. Lemmy wanted to rub shoulders with the in-crowd. This is where the biker gang jumped the shark.

Motörhead – Bastards
Tries to get the bike back on track but doesn't quite make it. Features "Burner".

Left Hand Solution - For The Hallowed Blood

It's great to see them still kicking after all these years. Swedish doom at its finest, and my favourite release from 2021.

Eternity's End - Embers of War

Just on the first track, but yeah this fucking rips. Hasn't lost a beat from their other stuff. How Iuri Sanson sounds no different than on Hibria's Defying the Rules from near 20 fucking years ago now is crazy to me. The guitars are maybe more nimble and aggressive even than before.

People complaining about Joost van den Broek's mix have clearly forgotten how muddy Charlie B's mixes were!
Love the song.

Dream Troll - I Will Not Die Today

I thought their last one had a different singer and I was right... this is even better than the new one, singer's got more of a smooth, expressive voice needed for this kind of music.

This.
Another great record....their last 15 years has been very impressive. To my ears, they're releasing stronger music than any of the 80s thrash bands in recent years.

I can kinda get the hypothetical person who doesn't know that Lemmy loved the Beatles and wouldn't like the poppy chorus, but I like it.

This is where I disagree! I love the hell out of both of these albums, with the exception of the daddy song. Gotta play March ör Die now.

I don't recall Rock 'n' Roll being very good (well it's Motorhead, it's always listenable at least, but nothing stood out). What I don't understand is why the excellent Just Because You Got The Power was relegated to a B-side and not put on the album as that was one of their all time best slower numbers; it was great that they put it back into the live set in the 2000s.

I wouldn't go that far but their last three albums have been a lot of fun and have shown more evolution and growth than any other 80s thrash band I know of, indeed.

Smashing Pumpkins - Frail and Bedazzled

When they get a head of steam they are a freight train. Why was this not an album cut?

When I read how Dave Grohl was the best drummer of the grunge/alt era I keep wondering if they ever listened to Jimmy Chamberlin...

David Bowie - Berlin trilogy

This has been dominating my mornings all week. A sophisticated, breezy art-house kind of listen. Serene and not a note out of place.
