Criminal - Sacrificio

Another solid offering of death/thrash n groove from these Chilean Crims. It doesn't reach the lofty heights of Sicario but nothing ever does.

Ayat - Six Years of Dormant Hatred
This piqued my interest because of the fact that they really seem to mean what they say, being from Lebanon and hating religion and all. This sounds like exactly my kind of filthy, depraved extreme metal. No restraints. I like art that takes things to the limits.

Dee Snider - Leave A Scar

This is a great album. Top notch songwriting and performances from all involved. I'm a huge fan of Dee's vocals and he still sounds awesome after all these years.

Interesting. I've never heard this (or any of his solo albums) but really like his vocals.
Will investigate...

"For The Love Of Metal" and "Never Let The Bastards Wear You Down" are cool too, as are the respective albums from Widowmaker and Desperado.

Benighted--Collection of Dead Portraits off Carnivore Sublime

Such a good band. With my love of bands who mix all sorts of extreme styles like black, death, grind etc like: Anaal Nathrakh, Cattle Decapitation, Dragged Through Sunlight, etc. I'm surprised it took me so long to find out about these guys.

Better late than never Ace. I couldn't tell ya how many times I've wished I'd gotten into a band sooner... Dead Moon being the main example for me, cause they became my favourite non metal band. I had a chance to see Dead Moon in my home town back in the early 90s, but I didn't get into them til much, much later... now Freds dead and that chance has gone.
Tad are a very cool band tho. I remember getting Inhaler in 93. There was so much good stuff coming out back then, so there's always cool stuff to discover or revisit, even 30yrs later. The search never ends.

Unanimated - The Poetry of the Scarred Earth

So I think the new Unanimated album is the best thing they've done since Ancient God of Evil. There's definitely a lot of traditional heavy metal influence present, this song sounds like they're trying their hand at a Blood Fire Death/Hammerheart era Bathory epic, and the intro is a straight nod to Judas Priest's Victim of Changes (that's the second band I've heard pay homage to that song this year after Spirit Adrift did it on the song Invisible Enemy from their new EP).

I just can’t get into this band, no matter how hard I try.

Ted Nugent - Double Live Gonzo! (Love it!)
Witch Cross - Fit for Fight (CLASSIC!)
Clash - The Singles (Great! As every rock critic EVER will tell you).
Traffic - When the Eagle Flies (Good, not as good as the other Traffic albums I've heard, kind of noodle-y).

What? Rock 'n' Roll rules. It has only three "lesser" tracks (Traitor, All for You and Boogeyman), but those are very enjoyable as well. The other six tracks are pure classics, even if a bit underrated.

I LOVE "Traitor"! Though I've heard the live version from No sleep at All way more.

I can kinda get the hypothetical person who doesn't know that Lemmy loved the Beatles and wouldn't like the poppy chorus, but I like it.

Motörhead – March ör Die
Bad commercial album with an unusual title track. Lemmy wanted to rub shoulders with the in-crowd. This is where the biker gang jumped the shark.

Motörhead – Bastards
Tries to get the bike back on track but doesn't quite make it.

This is where I disagree! I love the hell out of both of these albums, with the exception of the daddy song. Gotta play March ör Die now.

I LOVE March or Die! it's also one of the first 3 CDs I ever bought! :-D

Yeah, I guess I’ll have to try their earlier albums.

NP: INXS - Kick

One of my favorite new wave albums. Plenty of hits on this one.

David Bowie - Berlin trilogy

This has been dominating my mornings all week. A sophisticated, breezy art-house kind of listen. Serene and not a note out of place.

Bowie's always great, especially the second (Eno-dominated) half of "Low". If you're interested in more of that art house vibe, I'd recommend "1. Outside" and "Leon" / "The Leon Suites". The latter is an unreleased experimental project that sparked the former album which features parts of that project in the form of intros and segues. It's on Youtube in multiple versions and as far out as a wandering cat.

Continuing with Motörhead:

Spoiler: show
Motörhead – Sacrifice
Mikkey Dee joins as a full time member, and the resulting album screams "We've arrived in the 90s, and we're heavy and evil". In a few places, the voice almost and inadvertently comes across as a death growl. People love it, it's at 92%. I don't get it. There are just too many of those tracks where the band seem to try to force themselves into certain slots.

Motörhead – Overnight Sensation
Great melodic album with lots of catchy hooks and a track sequence that makes sense (suspense curve / flow). Some songs are like an updated version of the commercial period in the late 80s and early 90s. In my view, the best thing they released between "1916" and "Aftershock".

Motörhead – Snake Bite Love
A huge disappointment when it was released but a bit better in hindsight. The party anthem "Love for Sale", "Take the Blame", the ballad "Dead and Gone" and a couple of riffs here and there aren't bad at all.

Motörhead – We are Motörhead
A lesser album. Notable tracks: the "Ace of Spades" copy "We are Motörhead" and the ballad "One More Fucking Time".

Motörhead – Hammered
Another lesser album. Features the completely obscure, forgotten and motörtastic "Mine all Mine" that sounds like an outtake from "Bomber" with a nod to "1916":

How did that happen?

Motörhead – Inferno
Everyone seems to love it. I don't know why.

Motörhead – Kiss of Death
Much better for the most part. "Going Down" is a hidden classic.

Motörhead – Motörizer
Solid, albeit a bit too clean. "English Rose" =

The next episode of this Motör-recap will feature the first two albums and lots of live stuff.

Irreversible Entanglements - Open the Gates

Ugh the weight and gait of this thing is astounding. Enveloping sound, plodding and intentional in parts. One of the albums of my year.

Tool - 46 and 2

I've been a fan of Tool since I first heard them back in 1993. They have a lot of great songs. But this has to be my most favorite track of theirs of all time.

Ondskapt - "Semita Sinistram"

Stumbled upon this randomly, loved it, and was disappointed to discover that it was recent, but not enough for the '21 list. It came out in late '20, and only received one measly vote in the poll last year. It seems that late releases get overlooked. The guitar tone is just perfect. Which reminds me of this one...

Frustratingly I didn't get into them until January 1st of this year, so I couldn't vote for them, but they've since then become one of my favorite bands. Very few do throwback music as authentically as they do.

Ayat - Misogyny When We Embrace

Genuinely unsettling stuff. Uncomfortable. But intriguing and badass as fuck. There's a seething and real hate and rage in this shit.

Dream Troll - Legion

This really is a very weird band, everything from the unfitting name to the odd slow, somewhat melodramatic sing-songy vocal parts and the proggy rhythms - it's all quite odd. But they are ambitious and quite good players. Look forward to hearing how they keep evolving for sure.

The band responsible for "pizza thrash" getting big in the mid to late 00s, I guess.
They predated most of those bands and are also better than most of them, though.

Cobalt - Slow Forever

Over 80 minutes - definitely an undertaking. Sounds as massive and iconoclastic as Gin so far. This band has an excellent feel for riffs and building drama. Such a serious, uncompromising mood overall.

That's a hard call, Lateralus is easily my favorite album of theirs, but "46 & 2" might be a better individual song than anything on it. Speaking of Tool...

This might just be the best song Tool never wrote. Definitely one of my favorite band discoveries this year.
