Anaal Nathrakh - Codex Necro

The post above made me realize that I've never listened to this album. So I'm listening to it now. I expect nothing less than utter auditory chaos.

Varathron - Behind the Mask

Varathron are a funny band to me; they've never released a serious masterpiece, but everything that I've heard sounds pretty solid. Just faithful Greek black metal with the right amount of bombast to it.

Running Wild - The Rivalry

I haven't heard this one before. Sounds pretty kickass so far. Nice, ruthless hammering metal.

Accept - The Final Chapter Live

This is a live set from the 90s when they were a single guitar band. It’s interesting to hear these songs with more “space”; it actually works to emphasize Wolf’s soloing, which shines brightly here.
Love this band!!

Iron Maiden - The Parchment

I think this is currently my favorite "Senjutsu" song, likely because I'm a sucker for eastern melodies.

Annon Vin - Remind the Differences

I love the contrast between these power metal-esque vocal hooks and sophisticated proggy riffs. Very cool stuff.

Morbosidad - Corona De Epidemia

Pandemic-themed black/death, woohoo

Slayer - Hell Awaits - this was the only Slayer album I didn't have as a kid and I've never felt as close to this one as the other 'classics'. Still an absolute banger....

Freddie Gibbs & Madlib - Bandana

Such a supremely engaging album front to back.

The title track is their best song. I have spoken. Especially some live versions with THE BASS.

Fleetwood Mac - Go Your Own Way

Listening to grandmother's music continues. Well, this song is just good, nothing to add.

Volbeat - The Devil Rages On

Super catchy, they cranked the rockabilly up to 11 with this one

Death Angel - The Bastard Tracks

Live without an audience. A pleasant surprise because, soundwise, it's a bit more woolly than the last couple of harsh-sounding studio albums. The track list is dubious though. Nothing from "The Ultra-Violence"? Only two tracks from "Frolic" and only one from "Act III"? Many highlights from their newer stuff are missing? Nevertheless, not bad at all.

Hail Of Bullets - On Divine Winds
No one does/did war themed metal better, IMO. And much of that is due to Van Drunen, whose vocals perfectly portray the terror that I imagine warfare fosters.

Running Wild - Return of the Dragon

This and "Ballad of William Kidd" are really fucking good. Stunning epic shit. Love it. The guitar tone on here is a monster and the riffs rule.

Slough Feg - The Animal Spirits

Been a bit since I played this. Holds up. Delightful and quirky old rock stuff. Inspired to play some more of them by the guy from that other thread who hated them.

Dream Troll - Darkness Lies Within the Sun

Some parts of this thing remind me a lot of late 80s Maiden with more varied influences. I like that smooth, ultramelodic style.

Iggy Pop & James Williamson - Kill City

Great riffs on this. Not not as riff-strong as Raw Power, but still up there in terms of guitar output

Baxaxaxa - Church of the Antichrist

Heavy, stomping riffs...thick, foggy keys; I love metal with this kind of occult atmosphere.

Vile atmosphere and massive riffs...I bet some people pissed their pants once they heard it in 1989.

Callenish Circle - Obey Me

All that At The Gates discussion in the unpopular opinions thread got me listening to this joint I stumbled upon the other day made by people who I think really liked Slaughter of the Soul. Sounds a lot like the Gothenburg stuff from the early-2000s, but with melodies and shit more closely resembling Slaughter of the Soul than their contemporaries.

Brocas Helm - Satan's Prophets

Digging it. Noisy, unabashed rocking. Just spirited.
