So Ripper got fired again? Dude can't catch a break. Guess he just wasn't meant to be a metal vocalist in the long run, he gave us the Winters Bane debut and ran completely out of luck after that.

I finished that A Second Chance song like thirty seconds ago and already forgot what it sounds like. This is basically procedurally generated metal.

As said above totally by-the-numbers stuff and boring as boring can be. Hard pass. Chris Caffery is a good guitar player and he should not associated with this crap.

I obviously don't know the man so take this with a grain of salt, but I've heard from some reliable sources that Ripper is a real pain to deal with so I've always just assumed that's why it never works out for him.

Is that so? Can't say I've kept up with news about the guy, anything I could read?

Maybe if he had a better voice, bands would find the motivation to make things work out with him. But he's expendable, always.

Yeah his voice is the definition of all technique with no personality. He has his moments where that's less apparent and he can channel a little more emotion here and there, but he's such a "fanboy" type of singer that his ability to be an essential part of a band is usually quite minimal. Hence, the dude's always getting replaced. My main disappointment with Spirits of Fire though is the utter waste of a fantastic rhythm section, though tbf I haven't heard any of their albums in full so maybe there are some exceptions here and there? Either way, Ripper and Caffery both struggle with being a bit faceless to me so it's hard to be too excited, even if having Lione is definitely an improvement.

He's said in interviews that he really only sticks with projects long term if there's financial gain to be had. I have a personal theory that he was burned by Beyond Fear not taking off the way he hoped in the mid-2000s and decided to just play it safe in the hired gun/tribute singer role.

Spoiler: show

Damn, the Beyond Fear debut did re-capture a bit of that Painkiller magic.

On that track though. The rest is not as good as that one.
