So I had a look at the recently added bands list this morning, and found this.

https://www.metal-archives.com/bands/User_Joined_Your_Channel/3540506941

It's a band themed around Discord, the instant messaging platform, and I'm also fairly sure that the various songs are just the same few copy-and-pasted parts mixed in different orders.

This was such a bizarre and unexpected lyrical theme to come across that I thought I'd make a thread about it. What are some metal albums or bands you've found with similarly niche, weird, or specific lyrical themes?

The first band that comes to mind is Perilaxe Occlusion, and OSDM band that primarily deals with lyrical themes related to 3D modelling and rendering techniques.

"Raytraces of death"... lol, I'm gonna have to check that one out.

Hasn't actually happened, but I remember once arguing about Amon Amarth and saying "yeah, the lyrics are all the same, what do you want them to do? write a song about accounting?"

Johan... you heard me.

I've been wondering if a Minecraft metal band existed for a while, and I even searched for it on the archives at some point. Dang, I'll have to listen to that one too.

More to the point of your original question OP - the only thing I really have to contribute is this:

https://www.metal-archives.com/bands/Susvourtre/19482

A Les Legions Noires project with the sole listed lyrical theme as "Pedophilia." Not quite the other, cheerfully quirky suggestions in here but it's certainly a unique lyrical theme.

I didn't see that listed among the guy's other bands. He was, however, in a project called Suicide-Chan at one point.

A thing I probably shoulda made clear in the original post. I don't mean gross, degenerate shock value shit, bigotry, or bigotry disguised as humor when I say weird or unexpected lyrical themes. I'm talking about stuff that you'd never think to write music about. Like this coffee-themed death metal band.

Forest Of Harambe

https://www.metal-archives.com/bands/Fo ... 3540476798

Black metal tribute to the fallen god, Harambe the gorilla at the Cincinnati zoo. The 3rd track on the album is "The Crying Primate" in Norwegian.

This thread would be more interesting if the majority of the "bands" posted weren't some one-off shitposts / DSBM dweeb sideprojects. That Operador one at least seems like a real band.

Lugubrum is a weird one: "Food, Alcohol, Peasantry, Totems, Decay, History, Midgets, Scatology, Humour"

https://www.metal-archives.com/bands/Sockweb/3540372721

This is a father/daughter grind band. The girl was 6 when they started making music, and she was actually the vocalist. The lyrics are mostly about things a 6 year old would write, which you could probably guess from song titles like "Bullies Are Mean" and "I Want Pancakes". It's pretty wholesome, but the project ended when the dad committed suicide :/

I think Dauþuz has a pretty uncommon one. With "Traditional mining in Germany and Europe" as a lyrical theme
https://www.metal-archives.com/bands/Da ... 3540419047

Another one would be Stíny Plamenů having "sewers" as a lyrical theme.
https://www.metal-archives.com/bands/St ... %C5%AF/483

Both bands are actually pretty good.

Fecal imagery and human waste as lyrical or image themes is pretty common. See any number of goregrind bands.

I forget the name, but there was someone in the musician’s forum, asking for band PR advice. The band was alleged to be ‘just as good as the Viking era Bathory albums,’ in a epic, melodic, black doom style, with Russian lyrics.

I don’t speak Russian, but someone who does asked him about the lyrics, which were mostly about how he wanted dominatrixes to shit on him. He was asked why he didn’t have lyrics about fighting with swords, and paganism, and he got angry. He said that he wasn’t idolizing childish fantasy stuff, he was an adult, and he wanted to write authentic music, about his authentic desires.

I seem to remember there was some grindcore/goregrind band where all of the songs were about frogs. I can't remember the name of the band but they seemed to have an agathocles-esque discography (like two hundred or so releases) and songs like "Toad visits Fiji"or some crap like that. I don't even remember if they are on the archives or not.

The last one is interesting because Xenozoic Tales/Cadillacs and Dinosaurs is actually a comic series from the 90's. No idea how long it ran.

EDIT: Should probably throw out one of my bookmarked finds: https://holzerhurd.bandcamp.com/

Basically black metal all about living a mundane suburban life.

Oh man I remember these dorks. They have a manifesto which is fine in theory, in that they want to push the boundaries of art but they do it in the most immature way possible. If you google "EDGETIVISM The Manifesto," you'll find it.

Yeah, Phyllomedusa...that's it. Holy shit, those guys look like they have almost as many releases as...a certain former Gulf Coast Florida "Band." (But to their credit, Phyllomedusa seem to put a lot more effort into their releases than Sloth did, not that this is saying much.)

I feel like it's obligatory to mention Stíny Plamenů whenever a thread like this pops up. They're a Czech black metal band that revolves their entire aesthetic and most of their lyrical themes around sewers.
