This album took my head clean off.
Furious and pissed off death metal, that despite being straight ahead pummeling is surprisingly riffy and varied all the way through.

Yeah if you haven’t you should go back and listen to the first 2 they are excellent. Eager to hear this whole album, the two singles didn’t quite seem on par with the second album but still very good.

Unholy Satan in hell! This is THE gem album of 2022 so far for me. Harsh, brutal and aggressive "blackened death" with twisted catchy riffs. Some awesome solos and more melancholic moments mixed in. Released May 13th, can't believe I haven't seen anyone talk about this yet.

I agree that the first two albums are good, too. Keen to hear this one, too. Great band.

The new Consecration (death/doom from England) is pretty sharp and amazing;

I really like all three of these, thanks for the recs!
What is up with Chile? Every band I discover from there lately fucking rules, that death/thrash scene is amazing!
EDIT: I've just seen the guy from Vórtize (unbelievable that all this was written and performed by just one guy anyway) is also in Demoniac. That man is a fucking genius.

The new Khold album is a great listen. Catchy mid paced black metal delivered by a band who have the style down to an exact science. The bass solo on i demonens bok in particular is a highlight and the whole album has the bass up and front.

I've found myself drawn to this one a lot over the last week. Uplifting, 'warm' black metal with frequent tempo and mood changes, lots of leads and those typically German melodies that we all know and love (think Totenwache and the like):

Spoiler: show

I'm also really digging that bass sound on the Khold album, kind of reminds me of Samael's 'Ceremony of opposites' in production and general atmosphere.

The new Orthodox album is really cool. Experimental sludge/drone. Tons of cool riffs, a return to form.

Skinflint from Botswana have put out a killer EP titled "Adze" and are giving it away for free on their website. Fans of current Darkthrone, Venom and Celtic Frost should like this.

it can also be streamed from the website;

I feel like this album is criminally underrated this year. I mean it has received a lot of praise from folks that are already fans of them, but otherwise I've barely seen it mentioned and for me it's easily my favorite of the year so far by a pretty wide margin.

This is amazing, love how much variation there's on the album. Incredible musicianship all the way through, already a fan after the first listen.

It's here! :headbang:

You know what to expect, and they deliver in spades. Toni is sounding his best since their early days, riffs for days, the second guitar allows for frequent lead solos and melodies that really elevate some of the parts, production is spot on, great bass sound and dual vocals on some tracks, heavy and fast as fuck, and you can tell they're just totally enjoying themselves. Oh yes :)

And this!

Potentially sounds much more engaging than 'Resurgence', tough competition for new Inhuman Condition out in two weeks' time...

Final Light

Not purely metal, but James 'Perturbator' Kent and Johannes Persson from Cult of Luna have released an album together under the name Final Light. And this thing crushes! Top 10 contender aoty material for me.

The new Hulder MLP picks up right where Godslastering left off. Excellent slightly raw black metal laden with hooks and memorable riffs.

Hell yes, I had high expectations since their previous Til Endes was and is also very strong, and wasn't disappointed. Also, almost immediately after they released this they announced that Tulus has started recording their next album. The two previous Tulus albums have been very similar to Khold and the line-ups of the two bands are almost identical these days, the only difference being Rinn who doesn't also play in Tulus.

Agreed.

Cult Of Luna is awesome, but everything Perturbator touches turns to gold; massive fanboy here.

Post-metal and synthwave might not sound like a great marriage on paper, but this is beautiful.
HIGHLY recommended.

^ Had no idea this was even a thing. I share the same feelings about Perturbator, can't wait to listen to this.

Edit: Sadly I didn't like it at all. It doesn't showcase his talent/creativity imo. On the contrary, I feel as though it was very restrained and one-dimensional. It sucks to write this about one of my favorite musicians but it is what it is.

Final Light sounded like an interesting collaboration but I don't think the final album delivered. It was a bit one dimensional and it lacked the dynamics that make Cult of Luna great imho.

Has anyone listen to the new Lord Belial album? I have to say I was rather impressed, it was much better then their last work. I'm surprised no one has made a thread about their new release.

Agreed re Lord Belial, initially I thought it was just another black metal album but with subsequent spins I've found myself drawn to it repeatedly and it is deceptively catchy and memorable.

These guys have a new record out that could be tech death album of the year, since Archspire won't release an album in 2022.

Yeah. As I understand it they didn't have a guitarist on this one, but instead just a bunch of guest musicians. Two of them being the guitarists from Archspire.

Pestilent Hex - The Ashen Abhorrence

Apparently this is a new band that just formed this year (I believe, not positive) and this album just dropped today. It's really solid black metal. Loving it so far.

Yeah that Pestilent Hex album is really good, one of the best symphonic black metal albums released this year along with the new Katharos album. If anyone is looking for Emperor worship done really well I'd definitely recommend it.

I actually didn't know that. It all sounds very seamless despite the amount of guitarists.

Blackened death metal from Greece by members of Burial Hordes and Enshadowed. Very much in the more bestial mode similar to bands like Teitanblood and Pseudogod mixed with more dissonant strains of death metal.

New Altars is out and it's great. The first album was Morbid Angel + a bit of dissonance but this one is noisier on my first listen. I really think the guy from Convulsing was a perfect match for the band, I'm not sure if he took part in the composition process but I've heard a lot of influence from Convulsing. Overall I'd say it's as good as Paramnesia, maybe even better.

Powerful trad metal from Canada (they know their shit up there). Gritty and non-cheesy with fantastic leads:

Wormrot's new album Hiss is out!
https://wormrot.bandcamp.com/album/hiss

I reckon it's their best album. Wormrot have always been my favorite grind band so I might sound a tad biased. Hiss is somewhat experimental with dissonant elements and more variations wih vocals but at the same time it still sounds like a solid Wormrot album. The band has stated previously that they're influenced by Discordance Axis / Gridlink and this record shows a bit more of that infleunce.

I'm on my third listen already and would highly recommend this.

I'm only 2 songs into this album and I'm loving it. Really fun melodic death metal that sounds a bit blackened and thrashy.

Those guys really fucking love Arghoslent. In fact I'm not sure it isn't Arghoslent using a different moniker. That's how 1:1 it sounds and looks.
