Misfits - American Psycho

From the opening intro Abominable Dr. Phibes through to the closing hidden track Hell Night, American Psycho is a glorious tour de force of catchy as fuck sing-along wohh-ohhs and hardcore punk metal riffs.
Speak Of The Devil, From Hell They Came, Dig Up Her Bones (one of my all-time faves), Crimson Ghost and Shining...the whole damn album really is a feast of hooks and b-grade horror.

Judas Priest - Locked In

Turbo is relatively more pop-oriented compared to the other albums in Priest's extensive catalog and it's apparent in more catchy, hooky songs. Locked In is one of those songs and this song so easy to digest.

Dimmu Borgir - Dimmu Borgir

I'm not a big fan of latter day DB, but this one kicks ass. It has a nice hook and the instrumental in the middle is excellent symphonic metal. Also the line "Our formation is lava" is so badass, and it ties into the origin of the name of the band.

Symphony X - The Divine Wings of Tragedy

Decent tune that has plenty of things in store, but it doesn't flow as well as it should. I prefer the shorter and more instant material on the album.

Destroyer 666 - The Eternal Glory of War

Demo track with terrible sound compared to the Phoenix Rising version but still worth it to hear this stripped to the bare bones.Epic song.

Arch/Matheos - Vermilion Moons

Mindblowing opener... listening to their back catalog has only made this sound even crazier. Climactic vocals, dense, rumbling epic instrumentals. Lots of later FW is all about the sublety and the doing a lot with a little... this album is about the maximalist instinct, big ideas, etc. Love it.

Panopticon - Kentucky

I think it’s safe to say that this is a masterpiece. Such a lush and inspiring album. Nothing else come close to this.

Angra - Temple of Shadows (album)

Majestic prog metal with power flavor. Soaring vocals over tracks that are technical yet very catchy. Really fucking good guitar playing btw.

Blind Guardian - Imaginations From The Other Side

Mordred's Song

Spinning the whole album and its a tour de force of real power metal. Always has balls and never veers into Rhapsody level fruitiness.

AC/DC - Back in Black

It’s tragic what happened to this band in the past few years and we probably won’t see another album but at least these old classics won’t die.

Yeah. Back in Black and Highway to Hell are still my favorites from AC/DC :np:

Surprisingly enough, I think I still haven’t heard Highway to Hell in full. Will add that to my to-do list.

Razor's Edge, Powerage, & High Voltage are also highly recommended!

and for a similar style, Krokus - One Vice At A Time & Headhunter!

Warrior – Fighting for the Earth (track)

An immortal example of… well, what is it?... classic W.A.S.P.-metal?

Spoiler: show

:metal:

Crimson Glory – Strange and Beautiful

So much better than its reputation (in certain circles). Excellent musicianship, good production, memorable songs… Different than the first two but not much worse. I'd describe the first two as a mixture of predominantly European influences: Led Zeppelin, Judas Priest, Accept, Scorpions, while "Strange and Beautiful" builds on the Zep but exchanges the other Euro-stuff for American bluesy hard rock.

Omen - The Curse

The first 3 Omen albums. Don't know a lot of stuff that would be better than them. Maybe the sound of this third album could be better, but the songs are so good that I don't care.

Exumer - Possessed by Fire

I don't get the band as a whole but their debut's title track from the unholy year '86 is one of the essential Teutonic thrashers.

Spoiler: show

Apart from that: Another attempt at listening to "Surfin' M.O.D.". Complete bollocks. Every time I try to make it through an M.O.D. release I stumble head first into a sinkhole.

Mr. Henry's best and definitive album. Some of the screams aren't human.

The Cure - Pornography (album)

This is more metal than Ghost, etc. so I'm gonna sing its praises here. Everyone should go listen to this masterpiece! (or don't, it's totally up to you xD)

Immolation - Blooded

Somehow made it to July without any idea that there was a new Immolation album. Got it on right now and, big shock, it kicks ass.

Road trip playlist...

Gov't Mule - Heavy Load Blues (wonderfully expressive, detailed, rich blues rock... a great piece of work)
Doug Stanhope - Before Turning the Gun on Himself (My favorite stand-up album)
Son House - Father of the Delta Blues (beautifully rustic, lyrical folk tunes and blues guitar - the a-cappella pieces are especially wonderful)
Sturgill Simpson - The Ballad of Dood & Juanita (brevity, wit, a soul... some of his best vocals)
Mitch Hedberg - Do You Believe in Gosh (There was nobody else like him)
Soundgarden - Superunknown (how fucking good was this band back in the day? Truly god-tier vocals, unpredictable and catchy songs, a really dire, soulful mood)
Butthole Surfers - Electric Larryland (eclectic, playful and completely bizarre... some great moments)
Thin Lizzy - Bad Reputation (my favorite of theirs, every song inimitable and catchy, beautiful nostalgic guitars)
Excalion - High Time (the most summer-y power metal album I have)

Cool! I’ll get to them eventually although I hate thunderstruck with a passion. But it can’t be that bad and I really like Moneytalks.

Count Raven - The Loneliest One

The first time I ever heard Count Raven, their singer struck me as an outright Ozzy-soundalike. This song in particular has a part that's very reminiscent of the fast part in 'Electric Funeral'. Not original at all but if you feel like one of the wretched then doom on with this one.

Oh, he IS an Ozzy soundalike, but that's part of why they're so GOOD! :-D :-D

Easily beats the snot out of their 3 previous re-formation albums, though that's not an especially hard accomplishment considering those albums' floundering mediocrity.

Bolt Thrower – Realm of Chaos

First (deliberate) listen. In the late 80s / early 90s, members (dismembers?) of the then peer group subjected me to all sorts of death metal, including Bolt Thrower. So I (a death metal-unfan) must have been assaulted by this abum dozens of times back then. The difference between parties and y'tube is: you can click the latter away if the noise sucks. Halfway in now – will I stick it out until the end?

After that: Living Death – Protected from Reality

Thrash!! To recompense myself for all the suffering. :crash:

Eldritch - Headquake

Hard not to gush over this one. Just a jubilant feast of huge, aggressive metal riffs and pure PM chorus magic. One of those bands that's excessive but in a good way.

Nightrage - Dance of Cerberus

Been a long time since I last listened to this band. Was expecting asleep at the wheel melodeath, but there's a surprising amount of fire in these guitar leads. This certainly beats anything At The Gates has done recently, or The Halo Effect for that matter.

The groove break in this song is cool as hell. These guys have their own way of making thrash and it's certainly an interesting listen

I need to revisit that album. I'm rarely in the mood for it, but it's always a cool listening experience once I put it on.

NP: Pharaoh - The Powers That Be

Cool thundering guitar work that simply screams US power metal.
