Godflesh - Predominance

Godflesh was one of the first industrial metal bands that I discovered. And from the band's bio I read that Justin Broadrick used to be in Napalm Death. I wasn't expecting to sound anything remotely close to that band. But this song (and the album it came from) has no shortage of heavy guitar riffs and it's ably supported by a drum machine. These work in unison to make you bang your head, maybe not as fast as a Napalm Death song, but it will still get you to nod your head along just as well.

Pharaoh - Rats and Rope

This sounds even better than their newest album. Love how the riffs head into different directions with malice.

Eldritch - Headquake

Hard not to gush over this one. Just a jubilant feast of huge, aggressive metal riffs and pure PM chorus magic. One of those bands that's excessive but in a good way.

I need to revisit that album. I'm rarely in the mood for it, but it's always a cool listening experience once I put it on.

NP: Pharaoh - The Powers That Be

Cool thundering guitar work that simply screams US power metal.

It's too long for its own good, but it never totally gets boring either... there are a lot of albums like that; like I said, excessive but not totally a detriment.

And glad ya like Pharaoh's stuff. Be Gone is still my favorite but the two after that are about equal to it really.

Van Halen - You're No Good

Big sweaty riffs.

Metallica - The Thing That Should Not Be

I really think this is a flawless piece of work. A beautiful sense of melody marred with careening metal aggression. They were really capturing bottled lightning.

King Diamond - Sleepless Nights

Classic 80's metal riffwork and creepy ambiance; can't go wrong with this tune.

This is more metal than Ghost, etc. so I'm gonna sing its praises here. Everyone should go listen to this masterpiece! (or don't, it's totally up to you xD)

Was listening these day wow

Siamese Twins is incredible

Napalm Death - From Enslavement to Obliteration

Fuck yes! Nothing like some ND to forget about your noisy halfwit of a neighbor.

Sacred Reich - War Pigs

I think this is one of the better cover versions of this classic Sabbath tune.

Messa - Suspended

Getting started with the album, inspired by the Top 10 of 2022 thread. You guys have some great taste, it's very much appreciated!

White Ward - Leviathan

Pretty interesting but I never like extreme harsh vocal stuff with production this polished.

edit... second song was tremendously good. Definitely remember why I liked the last one. Moody, jazzy ambiance.

This would be better without the black metal parts for me.

Testament - Last Stand For Independence

It's the Fourth Of July and oh boy is this song relevant in this day and age!

Those lyrics are awful.

Our Place Of Worship Is Silence - Labyrinth Disorientation

Noisome brilliance; meaty riffs amid chaotic lines.

Judas Priest - Metal Works ("Let's put Priest songs in 2 CDs in essentially random order, with nothing from the first 2 albums because of rights issues, except for live versions." But it's still a bunch of great songs, of course!
Motorhead - Ace of Spades (Great! Some of the 70's stuff you'd expect, and a few early 80's songs also).
alanis Morisette - Under Rug Swept (Album Pretty Good!)
Just Can't Get Enough: New Wave Hits of the 80's, Vol. 5 (Good!)

Black Sabbath - The Devil You Know

This is Black Sabbath, no matter what name it was released under for business reasons.

Cinderella - Long Cold Winter

"Gypsy Road" is incredibly catchy, "Don't Know what you Got (Till it's Gone)" is a grade A ballad, and the title track is a fine example of feigned blues that's almost as blue as the real thing ("Feigned / real... how can you tell which..." - "Remain seated. It's a joke. [Albeit a sham one. *giggle*]")

Katatonia - Sunset Choir

Normally re-recordings totally lose their magic, but it's almost surreal how good this sounds. Jonas Renske better start to use his harsh vocals for something more in the future.

Sarcofago - Screeches from the Silence

Really cool "deathrash". I like their primitive, chaotic stuff too, but The Laws of Scourge is quite an accomplishment.

David Lee Roth - A Little Ain't Enough

Not in the same league as the stuff with Vai, Sheehan and Bissonette (too polished) but at least a musical version of sitting in a drop-top, getting a tan and counting the highway insects between your teeth.

Eldritch - Ghoulish Gift

Got to love how you've got these swaggering power metal vocals wailing around these proggy, yet banging riffs. One of the best songs of this style for sure.

Yeah there's a lot to like.

Fates Warning - Traveler in Time

I've admittedly gone back and forth on this; I mean it's a classic but sometimes I haven't really been in the mood. It's a very involved piece of work and if you don't have the time to sit down with it, it can sound like something of a chaotic jumble. But then you really listen and the riffs and song constructions are just so insanely well done.

Off to work we go…..

Anticosm - Viral

Checking out “The Call of the Void” is as great as everyone says it is.

Manowar - Carry On

I'm not familiar with Manowar's live set list so I'm not sure if they even perform this song in their tours. It's an anthemic tune that's very accessible. Probably the closest thing to a radio song for the band.

Fates Warning - Awaken the Guardian
Fates Warning - No Exit

Finally done with all the real life stuff I was busy with so getting down to really giving some of their stuff the detailed listens I'd wanted to. Obviously I knew ATG for decades now. No Exit, did people really have a beef with this one? It's much more direct but it's got a thundering guitar base and Alder really wails his head off. There's a definite care to it all, the precision working along with the ass kicking. I like doing deep dives on bands like this.

Iron Maiden - Run Silent Run Deep

No Prayer for the Dying is very underrated. Granted, it is a step down from Seventh Son but it's not that bad. By that time, Maiden set the bar so high that even they themselves couldn't match the artistic peak of Seventh Son.

Destruction - Unconscious Ruins

The first two Destruction full lengths don't do much for me. Release From Agony is a step up.

Katatonia - Right Into the Bliss

Katatonia's steady evolution from album to album is super apparent here, as this is the song that most closely resembles a song from Discouraged Ones or Brave Murder Day.

The Ruins of Beverast - Exuvia

Genius, atmospheric album that uplifts the listener's mood while simultaneously transporting them to a whole other dimension. If you enjoy pondering, wondering, and getting carried away while listening to music then you're in for a nice time with this one.

Running Wild - Blazon Stone

This was definitely one of those bands with the right kinda gusto, attitude and riff style to really just fucking power it out.

Slick and busy prog; very stimulating and immersive. My kind of thing for this style.

The closest thing I could ever get to a live Motorhead performance is by listening to their live albums. And Live at Hammersmith is the best of them all.

Revocation - Diabolical Majesty

The new song just dropped and I absolutely dig it. Definitely continuing in the same vein as The Outer Ones with an increased death metal focus, and the lyrics especially hit home in regards to what's happening in the US right now.
