I'll start with some edgy stuff.

Mgla - Exercises in Futility I was my ringtone for quite some time. Specifically the part at 3:48.
My current ringtone is Bethlehem - Gestern starb ich schon heute.
Also, I haven't personally used it, because it would be way too edgy, but I know that Tristania - My Lost Lenore has turned some heads with its ultra-gothic piano melody.

I used to have Iron Maiden by Iron Maiden as a ringtone. It was on this ancient Nokia 2310 or something and the vibration was off the charts. If it was laying on a wooden table it would sound like a drill at full power, with the riffs blaring on top. That was in high school. I always hoped someone would hear and go "wow that's a cool song, tell me more", but that never happened obviously. Good times, but a long time ago and I haven't really used a metal ringtone since.

I've been using the intro to Twisted Tower Dire's "At Night" since the Crest of the Martyrs Demos came out.

Mine has been the intro to “Mammals in Babylon” by Cattle Decapitation for several years now. Honestly I don’t get that many calls and when I do it’s usually just me to hear it but the few instances in public it turns some heads and draws angry looks.

Slayer - South of Heaven

It's been my ringtone for three years and I probably wont change it. First 30-ish seconds are just perfect, both as a ringtone and a song intro. It's also my favorite song by Slayer and there's no chance in hell I'll get sick of it...

I used to use the introductory chuckle from Electric Wizard's Dopethrone as my ringtone.

I've considered using the beginning of this as my phone alarm clock - start each morning floating in a cloud!

The intro to Rompeprop's Gargle Cummics album has been my ringtone for as long as I have had a phone. If the growling starts before I've reached it, I know it's about to go to voicemail and I'd better get there quick.

Not a ringtone, but my alarm is set to D.R.I. - I'd Rather Be Sleeping.

I took the intro riff of Isis' Red Sea (the heavy one), amplified it by 50dB on Audacity so that it's completely distorted. Whenever my phone rings, everybody around me gets a mini-heart attack, haha.

For a message notification, I took 0:08 of this video here and had done the same on Audacity as with Red Sea:

For a number of years in high school and early college I had the Vital Remains - Dechristianize solo as my ringtone. Ultimate cringe if you ask me...

Years ago i had for some time Future Breed Machine's intro as alarm clock. Now I'm kinda surprised that i didn't develop some kind of PTSD over that song

Hah, what an apt metaphor for waking up to capitalism too.

They're not on the archives, but I had The Dillinger Escape Plan's The Perfect Design for a little while. I just keep it silent now.

People still use ringtones? I don't think I've ever had my current phone set to anything but vibrate or silent mode...

Same here. I don't even know how my ringtone sounds.

I don't use metal songs for my ringtones (I use mostly video game or TV show themes), but this is my alarm to wake me up:

I used to use Exodus as my alarm clock. Talk about 'wake the fuck up'.

I switched it because I ended up not liking listening to Exodus when awake because it reminded of it being time to go to work. lol

On an old phone aboit 15 years ago, I made ring tones out of the following (usually the choruses):
Acid Bath - "Venus Blue"
Disillusion - "Back to Times of Splendor"
The Misfits - "Dig Up Her Bones"
Shadows Fall - "The First Noble Truth"
Municipal Waste - "Unleash the Bastards"

I alternated between SOD - "The Ballad of Jimi Hendrix" and the Metalocalypse Dethphone sweep or text messages.

Now, the only custom ring tone I have the is the RoboCop theme.

That's definitely part of the reason I don't use songs I like for alarms. Even the standard melodies are starting to give me anxiety.

While my default setting is silent, when it is required I've been using Running Wild's Calico Jack for years.

I used "The Time to Kill is Now" by Cannibal Corpse as my alarm music for a long time.

I had Megadeth - Dialectic Chaos as my ringtone for a while in high school. Also, not sure if this counts, but I used Die Liebe Nerthus by Burzum for a ringtone as well. After that I've grown tired of them and nowadays I keep my phone on vibrate 99.9% of the time ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

My alarm is set to With Hearts Toward None III by Mgła. This thread has given me the idea to set a ring tone now.

I had to stop making songs my ringtone because when I would listen to it at another time it became slightly annoying, or at least the part that the ringtone consisted of. Completely disregarding that, right now I'm using Place of Many Deaths off of Heretic.
