Fallen Sanctuary - Now and Forever

I forget why this had to be some separate band from Serenity and don't have time to look it up. Pretty good. I liked some of the old Serenity albums but fell off them as I barely heard any good things about recent albums. This is decent and poppy stuff.

Dissection - Soulreaper

Storm of the Light's Bane is like early Cradle of Filth for me. I don't care if it's really black metal or not, I just know I like it.

Well, it's Melodic Black Metal if we're being specific, but who cares that much, as awesome as it is?

"Failures Burden" - Primordial

One of the best songs on TTND, if you ask me.

The only genre Dissection needs to be categorized under is awesome.

Night-time listenings:

Sacramentum - Far Away from the Sun

Has certain ties to Dissection, but that's not the whole story. Good balance of fast and slower parts, and they really know how to write engaging melodies.

Burzum - Belus & Fallen

Most of the magic this band used to have is lost for me because you know why, but these albums still work as perfect night-time albums.

Nefandus - At the Dawn of a Black Existence

Their debut is a solid piece of black art. Nothing spectacular, but still great for 1996 AD.

Epica - Unleashed

Amazing how they can make these 5 minute songs sound like 10 minutes. Just too sterile and clinical for my tastes I guess. Impressive lead vocals though.

Angel Witch - "As Above, So Below"
The records released since their reunion are stellar. The last few from DiamondHead and Blitzkrieg have also been surprisingly awesome.
And, of course, modern Satan is killing it! Great to see these bands still doing their thing and doing it so well.

Cathedral - Carnival Bizarre

First day of fall - massive grit and occultic atmosphere. A feast of doomy stuff for sure. Lee's whacked out vocals add a lot.

Amazing album. "Grit" is a good word to describe it. It's also got a really "dirty" feel, to my ears.

Type O Negative - title track from World Coming Down, released 23 years ago today. What a dirge.

Megadeth - The Sick, The Dying And The Dead!

Digging the new album a lot. Gets better with every listen. Well done to Dave and and his merry band of Megamercenaries!

yeah I was surprised myself. Enjoying it.

Megadeth - This Planets on Fire (Burn in Hell)

Actually digging a song with Hagar on it. Is there anything MegaDave can't do?

Blaze Bayley - Human Eyes

William Black III is his best work for me... best most acrobatic music, most emotion behind his vocals. I love it.

Indeed. Good stuff.
And it's rare to see a sci-fi concept like this pulled off successfully, without reeking of cheese. But he managed to do it.

Mercyful Fate - "In the Shadows"
A perfect entre into Autumn season. The track "The Old Oak" is a masterclass on how to write a song that touches all bases: it's got atmosphere, elegance, mystery, melody, and balls.

Edenbridge - Freedom is a Roof Made of Stars

Guys, I don't know what you're trying to do here, but stahp it. Just stahp already.

Go re-listen to your first four albums. Do THAT instead/again.

Dark Moor- This Is My Way

You can tell they were losing their way before they released Project X, this is really dull.

Queensrÿche - The Warning

This one is gonna need a few more spins 'cause right now, I’m just not feeling it. I got that Take home song stuck in my head though, so I think it’s a good sign!

Tusmørke - Offerpresten

I read somewhere Fenriz considered this album one of the best releases of 2014; it's pretty good.

Spiritus Mortis - The Great Seal

Yep, this is good. Those into old doom metal should try it. Happy to even find some serious Deep Purple influences there, in the song Martyrdom Operation.

I felt the same initially. But it's now my favourite Queensryche album. So many classic songs like Warning, En Force, NM 156, Take Hold of the Flame and Before the Storm. Also I recommend watching the live version of Take Hold in Tokyo 1984, it absolutely destroys the studio take.

While Heaven Wept - Vast Oceans Lachrymose
Beautifully executed majestic doom with subtle hints of power metal. Some have likened them to a mix of Candlemass and Arch-era Fates Warning.

That one took a while for me to get - it's a really complex thing actually.

Stratovarius - We Are Not Alone

This isn't anything new so far but the band is completely on point. Very catchy and a lot of good guitars for their standards.

Mayhem - Pagan Fears

This album is legendary for a reason. While sometimes I have to fight the vocals that guitar is always there.

Since I've been reading Black Metal - Evolution of the Cult I've been on a BM kick so just moved onto some viking black metal.

Enslaved - Alfablot

Fucking killer riffage on this one. Intense.

there's only three good songs on it but they're extremely good and fairly long so it's worth it

7 Angels 7 Plagues - Jhazmyne’s Lullaby

Hardcore-leaning metalcore from late 90’s/early 00’s has really become my jam lately. This one mixes technicality and melody in a really nice way, and the bass drum sounds absolutely vicious.

Yes, great but often overlooked band

Stratovarius - Broken

I've liked what I've heard so far, I kind of miss my sugary songs though.

Good idea!

NP: Dark Millennium - Death Comes in Waves

Some few filler moments here and there, but I'll be lying if I said that this album doesn't remind me of Ashore the Celestial Burden.

Just finished Slayer - Live Undead. I play it the least of my small Slayer collection. Not really sure why.

Now onto The Accused - More Fun Than an Open Casket Funeral. Halo of Flies (The Deadly Blessing) might be one of my favorite songs.

Jim Jones and the Kool-Ade Kids - Manufacted Christ

Sounds like the American's variant of early Slaughter...although the heavy-as-hell guitar tone reminds me of Mantas (the band, not the guitar player) and the vocals of Cronos. Pretty heavy stuff for 1986!

Razor - Violent Restitution

Pretty fuckin great. Just nonstop chugging guitars and this great go for the throat attitude. Badass.

Blind Illusion - The Sane Asylum

Just twisted enough to be off-kilter - a deliciously wild piece of metal.

Sinmara - Shattered Pillars.

Still one of the best black metal albums ever recorded. The initial riff is stellar.
