Really digging that Ares Kingdom album.
The new Unbounded Terror (Spain), 'Echoes of despair' is also the first of theirs I really like; much more effective riffs and arrangements than their previous work imo, and much hookier.

That's okay about Ego Depths. I would assume it's not for everyone, especially if you're not a fan of how they incorporate the ethnic instruments. However, you're welcome about Scarcity. That one has shot into my top 10 almost immediately at this stage.

I also like this one, in the same vein. Has Jim Mutilator of ex-Varathron fame in the lineup as well.

It's more I don't know if I feel they incorporate them that well, an album that uses a more traditional instrument that I adore is YGG, https://yggmusic.bandcamp.com/album/ygg-the-last-scald Their use of the Vargan is amazing.

An Abstract Illusion's new album Woe was mentioned earlier (bandcamp). It's progressive but definitely in the melodeath camp.

mournful moon's rose velvet dynasty is a nice slab of hellenic bm. closest comparison is probably the agatus debut, maybe some human serpent with the mgla-y touches that pop up now and then.

Spiritus Mortis - The Great Seal

The doom legends are back.
I think this is a really good record, and the new singer does a great job.
I’m not sure if this new album is a good as the previous one, but I think it will be a top 10 album for sure.

I'd highly recommend Life Desecration, the debut full length from Czech blackened death metal band Altars Ablaze. This is easily some of the most vicious sounding stuff I've heard this year, the riffs are razor sharp and the band has a knack for incorporating eerie bits of melody in between the blasts.

This is beautiful. That title track is absolutely perfect IMO (even the keyboards!).

Anthia delivers a really cool progressive death metal album. It takes a few listens to wrap one's head around the songwriting, but it's worth it. If you are familiar with Neglected Fields, you know what to expect, as all members have played in NF, and it shows - the general style is quite similar, however, Anthia is a bit more melodic and proggy.

The new Algebra album is a worthy follow up to their last full length, if you're in the mood for aggressive, somewhat technical/progressive thrash metal like Coroner or Forbidden.

The new Miscreance record is top drawer technical death/thrash, if you're into Human/Individual Thought Patterns era Death, Pestilence circa Testimony of the Ancients, Piece of Time/Unquestionable Presence era Atheist etc. give this a listen.

Ferum's debut album is worth hearing if you're into Cianide-esque doom/death metal. Nothing new, nothing original...but it riffs pretty hard.

The new Gutvoid album is probably the best "cosmic death metal" album I've heard so far this year. Fans of Timeghoul and Blood Incantation should definitely check it out, the outer space vibes are strong wioth this one.

I agree new Nordjevel album is a fucking killer! Quality drumming throughout, super heavy and fast, couldnt be happier. One of the stronger newer Norwegian Black metal acts

I'd also recommend the new Live Burial album, Curse of the Forlorn. I think these guys have gotten better with every album they've released and this one is a great blend between the doomier and more uptempo, aggressive styles of OSDM, with a bit of early 90s technicality thrown in there too. It reminds me of bands like Burial Invocation and Skeletal Remains in particular.

Don't think this album needs to be here, everyone probably knows it's out already, but I just need to mention that the new Gaerea - Mirage is probably their best album so far.

Yeah, it's cool. I agree it's their best. The shorter songs really suit them better.

More Cianide-esque doom/death metal...albeit with a more varied death metal riffing style thrown in. Absolutely massive stuff! :)

Hard agree! I wasn't too keen on the previous Valborg album, Zentrum, but this new one, Der Alte, just might be their best one.

Valborg's Christian Kolf also has his own project Owl, which just released a compilation called Grid Shimmer (name your price on Bandcamp!), featuring a couple of unreleased tracks alongside previously released material. Owl is just as difficult to categorise as Valborg, I guess it's some sort of atmospheric death/doom with a heavy post-metal influence and a different sonic emphasis on each release.

I'm in on this train. Listened to this today a work and fuck me! This is great. Though it does remind me of someone that I can't pin down... and it irks me. Regardless this shit is incredible, what a find.

Physical release when though? :aww:

The new Mortuous is freaking awesome. Just an insane glut of high quality death metal albums this year. Halfway through the track Nothing they suddenly become As The Flower Withers MDB. Almost made me do a spit take. Do yourself a favour and give Upon Desolation a spin.

Yes, this was one of my more anticipated albums of 2022 and I’m glad it delivered. Graceless is obviously inspired by juggernauts such as Bolt Thrower and Asphyx, but they manage to express those influences while still retaining their own unique sound.

In addition, the new album is a master class on how to have strong and powerful production while retaining the frigid rawness of the music.

At times it sounds like it came from an alternate dimension where Vektor was part of the second wave of black metal.
