Helloween's Hamsters is referring to the hamster wheel idiom about being trapped in a cage doing an endless task, and they're criticising their previous label who wanted complete control of them.

To 'spit on' something means to degrade or disrespect it. In this case it looks like "Don't Spit on My Mind" is basically saying don't treat me like I'm stupid and take advantage of me.

'Go ape' means to go crazy. The colour pink could be associated with feeling like weirdos/outsiders in heavy metal, or insanity given people are put in pink jail cells (sometimes padded) in the hope they'll calm down. This one truly is a WTF title, but it seems the pink bubbles could represent a band collectively losing its sanity: https://www.eonmusic.co.uk/michael-kisk ... -2021.html
Quote:
The record has this title because that’s how we felt. When Kai left the band, the whole balance was gone. As a band, we were just not functioning really anymore.

Wow, that's actually really interesting to learn, thanks for this information, I would never have imagined the deeper meaning behind these.

I vaguely remember an old interview where someone in the band said they just wanted the silliest title they could come up with. That's why it doesn't mean anything.
The cover is rather silly and nonsensical too.

Vehemence has some cool sounding melodeath and a good band name, but holy fuck those lyrics and song titles are beyond terrible.

I just found a nice Norwegian hard rock band named Stargazer which is lame enough, but at least it's better than their previous name, F.R.I.E.N.D.

Another weird and quite useless band name is Harem Scarem, Great band, but that's a name that's designed to drive listeners away. The singer has said he could write a book on how to sabotage your career, and a good first step is having an incomprehensible name.
Anyone wanna guess what the name comes from?

Spoiler: show
The Bugs Bunny episode Hare-Um Scare-Um

Probably a good idea to NOT name yer band after a cartoon character or episode!

Given the other meaning of 'harem', the band name makes me think of a sexy witch or I Dream of Jeannie or something, so it could be worse.

Listening to the excellent second Iron Fate album this morning - such a great intricate piece of work, but man did they pick the most forgettable name ever.

A really, really strong fate. But not as strong as a Steel Fate.

Poverty's No Crime is already an unusual name on its own, but even more so for a prog metal band.

I'm surprised the name Destroyer 666 has not been mentioned, one of the most lame band names I've ever heard and I know quite a few people who avoided them for many years because they thought they would sound just as bad as their name.

That's not necessarily a contradiction. One explanation is a more or less obvious explanation of the words, the other one seems to say: "It's just a weird joke, there's no deeper meaning or message, i.e. we don't intend to portray ourselves as losing our marbles or anything like that."

A lot of the violent misogynist lyrics that wass common in brutal death/goregrind/slam/deathcore, they're just hard to read through without grimacing. Glad it's not really accepted nowadays especially as a lot more women are involved with that scene (Unfathomable Ruination, Stabbing etc)
I love Devourment, Waking the Cadaver, Misericordiam etc but those lyrics? No thanks.

Less of an extreme example, but I never understood why Deep Purple decided to release an album titled Bananas, there's nothing offensive in it or whatever, I just don't... get it, even though I know that isn't the case, I feel like there's supposed to be a deeper meaning to this that I missed. It's one of the cases of just reading too much into an album cover, sometimes they just pick something and that's about it.

Vio-lence dealt with serious topics on their first two albums so it was very surprising that they included the back to back salvo of "Gutterslut" and "Dicks of Death" on the Torture Tactics EP. It was probably funny for its time (1991) but even though I'm not a woke kid, I still find the lyrics cringe-y reading it now:

Spoiler: show
I need a gutterslut oh so bad
The kind of slut that's dirty and bad
I'm gonna fuck her till she pees
I'm gonna make this bitch bleed

Fuck her in the ass good and hard
After I've chased her through the yard
I don't use vaseline 'cause I like to
Fuck dirty and mean

Slut! Slut!

Strip your clothes off with my eyes
Ram my pecker right up inside
The bitch starts whimpering to me
In the morning will you respect me?

Awakened rudely in my bed
The bitch just slapped me upside the head
I see the front door's open wide
So I kick this fucking bitch right outside

Lines for whores!

I've had you too many times before
Your cunthole's begin to widen more
I'll have to tie a board to my ass
Or lose my life in your unforgiving crack

Slut! Slut!

Slut! Slut! Slut! Slut! Slut!
Slut! Slut! Slut! Slut! Slut!
Slut! Slut! Slut! Slut! Slut!
Slut! Slut! Slut! Slut! Slut!

Lines for whores!

Spoiler: show
My dick's so big I have to wrap it round my leg
And if you piss me off I'll jack off in your face
I got loads of jizz... you can suck me all night
You can swallow my children alright (aiight?! aiight?!)

Coz we've got the dicks of death
We've got the dicks of death (suck it whore)
We've got the dicks of death
12 inches of dangling doom, ough!

Don't care if they're skinny don't care if they're all lard
I'm gonna fuck... juicy tits and I'll fuck 'em real hard
... anal intruder
And if my dick gets stuck we'll just call Roto Rooter

I've got the dicks of death
I've got the dicks of death
We've got the dicks of death
12 inches of dangling doom!

We've got the dicks of death (yeah whore)
We've got the dicks of death
We've got the dicks of death
12 inches of dangling doom!

We've got the dicks of death (east coast!)
We've got the dicks of death (west coast!)
We've got the dicks of death (east coast!)
(East coast... west coast)

Lines for whores!

Those songs were just recorded as outtakes for laughs, and not really likely meant for a proper album, so it was included on the Torture Tactics EP, which included one song that was intended to be on Oppressing the Masses, but was deleted, apart from the Japanese version of the album. Plus, there's one live track, and the two tracks you referenced.

Had the Torture Tactics EP not been released, I think they likely would have just been B-sides.

Being outtakes doesn't diminish the fact that the lyrics was immature and uncharacteristic for a band that was known for serious topics. Yes, they were outtakes but the band still released it for the world to hear. And sure, it's for laughs but it's just very childish.

That's a good one I've never heard of but, yeah, they're here on the archives. I guess it stands out, in a way, when you discover they're a metal band (Groove/Gothic Metal/Rock, it says on their page) and they apparently sing about Life, Love, Death and... Farms. Interesting. I'm intrigued in a way, might have to find them on YouTube and give a listen.

There are a lot of bands with odd lyrical choices, Perilaxe Occlusion and Dauþuz are two that have been mentioned before that focus on atypical themes for their genres (3D modelling/rendering techniques and mining respectively).

This reminds me of the Gorgoroth vocalist Hat. Sure, it's 'hate' in Norwegian, but did he really not know its meaning in English? Also: Free Hat!

That's simultaneously ridiculous and awesome! "Pussy God Records" is certainly a name for a label.
