Icelandic black/death metallers Úlfúð will release their debut full length, Of Existential Distortion, on March 17 through Dark Descent Records. From the press release:

Quote:
Bred in the land of ice and fire, Úlfúð are the latest addition to Dark Descent’s flawless, ever-diversifying roster. Championing their personal blend of black and death metal (with emphasis on the former), the band’s debut album Of Existential Distortion uniquely captures the desolate vastness of the volcanic wastelands like only Icelanders can.

Úlfúð’s first full-length is a masterclass in songcraft, showcasing a stunning balance of entrancing atmosphere, haunting melody, and deathless violence. Artist Bahrull Marta was summoned to conjure the breath-taking artwork, whilst photographs by Alma Líf Þorsteinsdóttir adorn the inlay with visions of each offering.

Úlfúð’s (pronounced “ool-wooth”, meaning animosity or hostility) were formed in early 2015 in Reykjavik, Iceland. The band self-released debut EP First Sermon in 2018 and recorded debut Of Existential Distortion in 2020. A release truly worth waiting for!

Tracklisting:
1. Where Strange Lights Dance
2. Tears of Terra
3. Mockery Theatre
4. Faceless
5. Gods Left Behind
6. Questions
7. An Elegy to a Paradise Out of Reach
8. Leviathan Dreams

Where Strange Lights Dance has been released as the first single:
Spoiler: show

Úlfúð is a band that I only got into recently but I'm interested in this full length. They don't really play the typical dissonant Icelandic black metal style, I'd say there's more than a pinch of Swedish melodic black metal influence in their sound. The first single sounds pretty good, let's see what the rest of the record has to offer.

Will be posting the album in full on our YT channel tomorrow. Look out! This one should satiate those looking for Swedish melodeath/black like Gates of Ishtar, Eucharist, etc.

Saw these guys live and they knocked it out of the park. Hyped for this!

The first single is pretty nice. The main riff is pretty simple but it's a good hook. The second single is where things really get good imo. There's some really good syncopation going on and I dig the guitar tone. I'm quite excited to hear the full LP!

I'm loving this album, didn't know these guys before. By the way, how does one spell the band name in Latin alphabet?

It's pronounced “ool-wooth” so the phonetic spelling using the standard Latin alphabet should probably be similar.

I've been dissecting this album for over a month.....really fucking good. A unique brand of blackened death metal.

This album absolutely rules. It’s nothing particularly new, but is done so damn well, a metal songcraft masterclass. I haven’t been this into a newer metal band in quite some time.

I’ve searched them here under Ulfud. I’ve also found them on Discogs and on Dark Descent’s site as such.

I pretty much agree with everyone else, this is next level. They definitely wear their mid-90s melodic black/death metal influences on their sleeves but they still have their own sound.
