New Downcross on March 29, 'Invertebrata'. Damnit these guys keep busy! The cover art looks stupid as shit though, hopefully the music will be as great as always...

Blood Red Throne dropped a single at the end of February, and as usual, it's fucking dynamite! There was no album announcement, and the song was apparently released to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the band, so we can't be sure that there's going to be an album in 2023, but my hopes are up!

They've said they're working on a new album for their new label to come out later this year, so hopefully that comes to fruition. I thought the song was pretty boring though.

Deitus 'Irreversible' on July 14! I love both their albums so far, 'Via dolorosa' in particular is a very classy combination of melody, aggression and a haunting atmosphere with great production. It's taken them a while but this is great news!

EDIT: New Smoulder single released, 'The talisman and the blade', and it sounds fucking excellent. Well stoked for the new album on April 21!

Vindsval just announced that the second part of the Disharmonium cycle comes out in September. More Blut aus Nord is always welcome.

Terminalist - i think they are able to releases a really good album; specially if they concentrate on their stronger side (which isnt the BM element). Will we ever see the new Despair album?

Sweet. This will be like the third black metal album I've checked out so far this year. Ordering a logo patch too :)

New Thy Catafalque "Alföld" has been announced - release date 16 June.
Here's the description from the mastermind himself, so start drooling:
"Alföld is the most straight forward and classic extreme metal album the project ever recorded. This time I just wanted to do metal without any innovation or progression, focusing on songs and riffs rather than experimenting and breaking new grounds. Had to let the old ideas out, so I did it with enjoyment."

Also, the new Neo Inferno 262 is out this friday. Really unexpected but looking forward to industrial BM oppressiveness and weirdness.

This might actually be the first release of theirs I enjoy then. While I do enjoy the avant-garde side of metal the way Thy Catafalque does it has never appealed to me.

Hopefully new Deathevokation album will come out this year as they reunited in 2020 and have had enough time to record a new one.

Nervosa just put out a new single, Prika's handling vocals as well as guitars now and she does a pretty good job of it.

Looking forward to this, it's been ages since 'Antiliv', which I wasn't very keen on. Hopefully we'll see a return to the older sound.

Re Nervosa, the vocals sound fine and the drums rule as always, but the problem I've always had with this band are the riffs, or lack of. Doesn't sound like there's been much of an improvement in that regard...

I don't know that I would really call that song (or any of Nervosa's past material) riffless so to speak. It's not riff a minute stuff, but there are definitely quite a few in there. Whether they're memorable is a different question.

the only problem i've ever had with nervosa are the very on the nose and often awkward lyrics (in the sense that it's pretty obvious english isn't their first language) and excessive repetition in the choruses (hospital hostages comes to mind as a particularly cringy one) - riff/music wise they've always delivered imo

Wytch Hazel just announced their next full-length album, IV: Sacrament this morning along with releasing two singles from that album. Set to be released on June 2nd, 2023, I'm certainly excited for this album. I love their discography, and these singles sound a tad more laid-back as opposed to their previous full-length album. However, it seems like a natural progression for the band so far. Looking forward to this 2023 release.

You can sample the two single tracks here.

Oh shit. Their last album was a big step forward and is one of the best new trad metal albums. The lighter, old 70s pop/rock influence sets em apart. New songs sound cool so far.

Autopsy just wrapped rhythm tracks for a new album already, and Suffocation will finally enter the studio in May for release in September.

Paul Riedl and Blood Incantation posted a bunch of photos from the studio on their Instagram accounts a few minutes ago. Looks like they're recording new music, and I don't think we're getting an ambient album this time around. Hopefully it's not some elaborate April Fool's joke.

Sorrow have reformed and are recording/releasing the long overdue second album that they wrote but broke up before it could be recorded. I was a big fan of Hatred and Disgust so I am pretty eager to hear this one, especially because it’s material that was written around 30 years ago.

Completely stoked for the new Danava album “Nothing but Nothing”. Didn’t realize it’s been more than ten years since the last. The title track got released a few days ago. Probably my favorite band doing the whole 70s retro thing.

New Thantifaxath coming out on June 2nd called Hive Mind Narcosis.

Spoiler: show
Image

New single and first track of the album "Solar Witch" has been released.

So, Sacred White Noise was amazing and I loved their specific brand of off-kilter black metal. The follow up EP Void Masquerading as Matter was one of my biggest disappointments of 2017 and I gave this band no hope of returning to their former glory, especially since they'd been pretty quiet for a while. I'm currently eating my words as "Solar Witch" is fantastic, and gives me renewed hope in this band. I'm optimistic that the rest of the album will continue with the sound of the first track.

Yeah that latest Thantifaxath track is killer, can instantly pick up their unique style. Really keen for the whole thing!
