Best heavy metal festival lineup I've seen outside of Europe. This year's was pretty cool but this upcoming festival edition for 2023 is legitimately an American competitor to fests like Keep it True in a way I never expected to see materialize here. Got my ticket instantly.

Also reallllly stoked to see that Christian Mistress is back together and playing!

I only know about half of those bands but it looks absolutely fucking amazing. Have fun!

This destroyed my life for months when I went (got COVID, then my car broke down later on after the insane drive I did for it), and I still may try and find a way to go back next year.

Jeeze, Empyreal, that's a bad legacy from this year! Hope your covid wasn't too bad, I got it for the second time (once in 2020) after playing a fest this summer and it sucked but was nothing compared to the original bout pre-vaccine on the first strain. Next year's is looking worth the risk though...

It was a really mild case, barely anything for me fortunately. But yeah seeing Pagan Altar and Liege Lord and Possessed, fuck, I may try it again.

Almost everyone I know that attended this year got Covid from it. I somehow didn't, but then again I was probably the only person wearing a mask in the mosh pit.

Houston kinda sucks, the venue kinda sucks, they only have two food trucks with hour long waits, they don't allow re-entry... but it's still an incredible time and I'll be there again next year!

Edit: tickets acquired.

In all fairness the "almost everyone I talked to that went got covid from it" thing is every fest I went to or heard of this year!

I did wear a mask the second day, forgot it the first one though. But apparently that first day was enough.

Wow. That's a pretty sweet lineup!

Fuck dude, that sounds hectic. But I'm glad it sounds like you had a great time nonetheless.

Fucking great line up. I'm not a fan of fests in general, but if I were to pull the trigger on one, it'd be this one.

This lineup is fucking stellar. If I still lived in the US, I'd go in a heartbeat.

A bit of a way off from Denmark, but that's one of the sickest lineups I've ever seen at a festival.

Man, what is it about Texas that they get all the cool bands as far as the U.S. is concerned. My home state of California was apparently the place to be back in the 80s for metal shows, but we don't get jack fucking shit here anymore. I'm not a big fan of driving long distances, really the only place out of state I'm will to go for a concert is Vegas. Saw Helloween on their Pumpkins United tour there.

I'm kinda bummed Pagan Altar's there, on their mini-NA tour they did in 2019 I saw them in L.A. on their last date and they said they "will very likely never play in America again" (due to logistics) and the moment felt very special. So much for that, I guess, lol.

I was gonna say you're crazy but yeah, I can't think of anything like this that happens in California anymore. Hell's Heroes is basically a continuation of Frost & Fire, which was a killer trad metal fest in Ventura that no longer exists. California Deathfest is also permanently done. Decibel Beer & Metal just moved their LA version to Denver. Psycho used to do a small version of their fest in LA as well... it's probably just too expensive to do stuff like this in California nowadays.

Though to be fair, the fact that a lineup like this is happening at all in America is pretty unique. From what I could tell almost half of the crowd this year was from Canada or Europe.

They really need a fest like this in Canada, especially given that half of the bands that could play these fests are Canadian. I'd 100% be there if the US didn't go off the deep end over the last few years (also why I sold my MDF tickets) :(

Vancouver's Hyperspace Fest has been getting solid lineups, but they're more on the modern/power metal side: https://brokenneckradio.com/news/f/hype ... ortus-more

HH added Triptykon doing an early Celtic Frost set and an outdoor stage, along with more tickets.

I really need to make it out one of these years. I had time off set to go in 2020 but then... yeah, that.

Resurrect Mark Shelton using dark and evil necromansy, then get him to reform Manilla Road and you basically have a perfect line-up. God damn do I wish I had the money to go see Brocas Helm live.

I will be there Friday and Saturday. I'm definitely stoked that Unto Others was added to the line-up, and that they are using the outside stage this time. That should make it feel like an actual festival this time, and we don't have to pile into that goddamn super-spreader room. If anyone wants to do a meet-up again this year, feel free to PM me!

Outdoor stage + adding ins and outs (not gonna be stuck inside with one food truck like I hear it was last year!!!) is definitely a big win.

Haha yeah I feel like I'm the only one that didn't get covid last year. But considering the forecast says thunderstorms on Fridays, the outdoor stage could be a gamble... have a good time y'all!

I really liked everything last year up until I got covid (only got sick after the fest was done though). Couldn't do it this year. Hoping to try again next year.

Triptykon played every song from Morbid Tales, Emperor's Return, and To Mega Therion in order. What a treat! Absolutely killer.

Might be the best domestic fest I've ever been to. Just incredible. Will definitely be returning! The Celtic Frost set was just insane, agreed.

Whoa. That's awesome. Was it detuned or was it in the same key as the albums?

Psycho (when it's happening) is firmly # 1 for US festivals IMO but HH was a blast. Very cool lineup this year and the bands killed it. My only complaint is some amazing bands only got to play for 30 minutes.

Psycho just doesn't really appeal to me- I had fun the first year they did it as a three day thing when it was still in Santa Ana but the whole mega-fest of just random popular bands is not my jam at all. No real interest. I'm sure it's fun but I prefer smaller/mid-sized curated fests over that for sure.

Great! Doesn't seem like Comeau can hit the high notes these days but he compensates really well and largely didn't even try, which I think is the more graceful way to do it- I'd rather hear a slightly different vocal line live than hear someone try and fail to hit a note. Had a blast and the setlist was fantastic. Would love to see them again doing a longer set.

I can't say for certain (not a musician) but the songs didn't sound noticeably downtuned to me. They were also pretty much played at tempo other than a few slight slowdowns in some faster sections, which is different than a normal Triptykon set where some of the Frost songs are noticeably "doomified".

Sounds like a really cool set to watch if they're playing the songs by the book so to speak.

The Frost set was almost a religious experience, honestly. It was just perfect.

Might have to hit the festival up next year, a bit of a long trip to Texas from where I am but from everyone's said it's a worthwhile experience.
