So the mythical Morbid Saint finally released a new track from upcoming album:

Big fan of Spectrum of Death, I didn't need them to make new material, but here it is.

The intro is a bit long, I like the energy it gives off but for me a big part of the charm of Spectrum of Death was Pat Lind's wild vocals and here the vocals sound... incredibly standart and boring. I'm not sure I'm going to like it.

Not a bad song by any means but it feels a little dull given what they're known for. Hoping for more aggression on the full length, either way I'm glad they're active again!

Not as aggressive as Spectrum of Death, but I still enjoyed the single regardless. Looking forward to the new full length when it does come out.

Exactly this.

By the way, for those who haven't checked out Destruction System, they should. Great album, with the vocals being not exactly the same as SoD but just as special. Title track is AWESOME.

Riffs are solid, but Pat's voice is sadly shot.

There are kids out there who will hear this and conclude that Morbid Saint are nothing special, and that Spectrum of Death is not worth their time.
Fucking tragedy.

Granted we're going off only one song, but judging by this one song it's shaping up to be as disappointing as Razor's newest. Hopefully Dark Angel still has some gas left in the tank.

Vocally this sucks and it'll definitely be a deterrent to actually purchasing the album. Maybe some things should just stay in the past. Nevermind. Win some lose some.

It's decent but the vocals drag it down. I doubt the album is going to be on par with Spectrum of Death or Destruction System.

The intro is bad, the rest of the song is solid but nothing impressive, and Pat doesn't have the same aggressive force anymore. I don't expect anything good from it.

the thing is that i'm pretty sure this IS Pat Lind. whatever he was tapping into for that first album seems to not be there anymore, but to be fair to him it seemed to be slipping away even for that Destruction System recording.

anyway, for what it is, i like it. not too bad.

I expected a lot worse vocals from some of these comments, but it wasn't all that terrible - mostly just kinda generic punky thrash screeching. Music was pretty dull - nondescript riffs and the drums just sort of blast away uninterestingly. I'm relistening to Spectrum of Death now and yeah that new song kind of just sounds like a much weaker, less exciting version of this album.

Big time. The thing about these vocals is they sounded very familiar and throughout the song I was trying to figure out what they sounded like, and then it dawned on me: Modern day Schmier from Destruction. If I want to deal with that vocal style I'll just listen to All Hell Breaks Loose or The Antichrist. Morbid Saint with the old vocals, you had two camps fighting over whether it was death metal or thrash metal. All I know is I do NOT want to hear Assassin or Lock Up Your Children with those vocals.

Another single released today, "Pine Tuxedo"

Honestly not bad, definitely more interesting than the last one. Apart from Pat's voice (which is what it is, dude's old) it sounds like a Morbid Saint track but I guess more generic, idk if it's the mix or the hiatus or both. Of course it's going nowhere near the brilliance of the 90s material but if they keep this up the record is at least going to beat the latest Razor for me, probably the upcoming Sadus one too.

Harsh vocals in thrash are overrated (I don't really care about the perceived "underground" social credits in listening to the most extreeeeme thrash, when there's so many interesting things about thrash metal other than its ability to be extreme/borderline death metallish) so it doesn't really bother me he sounds different now. That said, this is very stock stuff.

I hate to pile it on Morbid Saint because I do like the old stuff and there's nothing really wrong with these tracks, but they don't stand out in any appreciable way to me. I'd describe them as competent but unmemorable. They just kinda sounds like something you'd hear from a bog standard modern thrash band.

Pat's vocals are much better here and you can tell that they're trying something new with the melody and neoclassical leads, but their original run is just so hard to live up to. At least they're clearly putting in a good faith effort.
