Naglfar - Vittra

After trying a lot of black metal albums this caught my attention, the drumming part is simply amazing and it has some cool violin parts that add a lot of emotion to the album. I think melodic black is my style since I really like this and Dissection, Sacramentum, and Dawn.

Try Necrophobic,Vinterland and Kvist

^I would also throw Thulcandra and Unanimated on that list. I quite like that style of melodic black/death myself.

Cannibal Corpse - Frenzied Feeding

Probably my favorite track on "Chaos Horrific". Definitely one that gets my blood pumping - fast, energetic and some fun riffage.

Just spun Cannibal Corpse - Red Before Black

Still my favorite late era CC album. The opening trifecta just smokes!

Cannibal seems popular today so why not.

Cannibal Corpse - Butchered at Birth

And

Amorphis - Skyforger

Exciter - Heavy Metal Maniac

This is one of my favorite albums! I guess Exciter is a bit cliche and cheesy by today's standards, but I still enjoy most of their music.

Sepultura - Dante XXI

Love this album, still think it's near the classics in terms of quality.

On another note, I'm putting this here. It's an article on Brazilian metal scene and the United Forces fanzine (also there's a book coming out)

You know, 'Me & the Boys' aside, it's not THAT bad.

Deeds of Flesh - Entranced in Decades of Psychedelic Sleep

I'm pickier with this kind of tech-death than I used to be, but DoF are undeniably great at it. "Portals to Canaan" still holds up real well. Love it.

Yup, this is still my favorite of the Derrick Green-fronted albums... though their latest one "Quadra" comes very close.

Strong record. The first few Green-era albums are not my thing, but they turned a corner with Dante.

Behemoth - Sventevith

Always pleasantly surprised with this album, a good take of the second wave of black metal with its own personality and a romantic aura that I love.

Burzum - Hvis Lyset Tar Oss'

Darkthrone - A Blaze In The Northern Sky

Emperor - Anthems to the Welkin at Dusk

Back to the basics, It's been a long time since I listened to those albums. The one that, at least for me, better stood the test of time is Anthems of Emperor, the other two are too raw for me, I liked them but I prefer to listen to other black metal stuff. Tho they are classics of the genre and I really liked them when I was younger.

Just great heavy metal with a singer that at times reminds me of Geddy Lee and John Arch.

Thank you very much, this is our band from Paraguay! We are very happy people throughout the world have the chance of listening to our new songs.
We've been playing classic Heavy Metal for over 2 decades and this is our second album, which we released last week in digital format only. Our hope is to publish physical copies as soon as possible.

https://sacropy.bandcamp.com/album/the-end

My NP list right now is mostly classic heavy metal/thrash albums:
Accept - Restless and Wild
Vio-lence - Eternal Nightmare
Mercyful Fate - Don't Break the Oath

All of these are albums which I can listen to hundreds of times and never grow tired of them.

Welcome, I am still loving this album!

I myself try and keep up with all the shite being listed here but damn it's nearly impossible.

Do I listen to everything mentioned? Oh goodness no. Not enough time but if something is mentioned and it is in a genre I enjoy and or an album from a band I like that I overlooked or maybe something I listened to a long time ago but dismissed I may give it a second look or check something new out if someone is positive about it. I may even be reminded to listen to a classic album that I have not played in years.

Lefay - The Boon He Gives

This massive groove and the stomping, plus the creepy, completely unhinged vocals - a perfect album. Mystical and yet savage. Great song after great song.

last night / this morning:

Steven Wilson - "The Future Bites"
Eagerly anticipating his new album, which is released soon.

Obituary - "Inked In Blood" and "Obituary"
Their crushing latest release has prompted me to revisit some of their recent output. These two are stronger than I recall them being.

November's Doom - "Hamartia"
A perfect band for the season.

By Fire & Sword - Glory

Interesting enough... better riffs and vocals than Ghost in a similar sort of style, but not totally compelling, certainly not Falconer quality yet. I don't really get what the lyrics want from me - parody of a religious zealot band? Why? Kind of a lot of effort for preaching to the crowd of stuff we've all thought for years anyway. Parody is tough, especially in music, since there just seems to be limited listening value in something so transparently snarky and just mocking. Maybe worth more in depth perusing when I got time. Vocal timber started to annoy me after a few songs to be honest. But I liked the spoken word parts.

Here's a picture of who I'm assuming is the singer (Reverend Tim Tom Jones).

I'm listening to this right now, also.

Lyrics take such a backseat to my listening experience that I imagine it would've taken me months to realize this was a parody after seeing that picture.

There's something kind of off putting about it, but they definitely have a unique sound anyway.

Paul Chain - Mirror

This is like a soundtrack to an old Argento or Fulci film with metal riffs. Some of metal's most fluid and interesting guitar playing. Lurches along like a fever dream and goes off in all these experimental directions. A real head trip.

Usurper - I Am Usurper

This album is really something - welding the crusty primordial old BM base to acrobatic, guitar hero trad metal. Brilliant stuff.

DYING FETUS - Grotesque Impalement

This is one nasty, groovy, catchy, and heavy album. 10/10 or 100%, this is my kind of death metal, the cover of Next Step Up, come on, this is a masterpiece of death metal. If you like hardcore and death metal you are obliged to listen to this album. It's awesome that they can make really heavy music and don't take themselves too seriously, the album has some funny parts that made me laugh at loud and smile while listening to this. Overall one of the best Dying Fetus albums, strongly recommended.

I've had it pending for quite some time but it's one of those cases where the quantity of its catalogue together with the little that has been written about it has prevented me from choosing a starting point. Any recommendations?

Alkahest is like a weirder Candlemass or Cathedral, so that may be the most traditional... Park of Reason is the best one I heard and totally just weird, veering between apocalyptic doom and strange ambient. This Mirror one is almost as good as either one, some cool psychedelia for sure.

Helloween - Walls of Jericho
What a blast, from start to end! It's one of those albums that the first time you hear it, you don't like the voice (I didn't like it at all) but now I find Hansen voice very good (he certainly needed to work more with his voice, but I think that for the sound the band had at the moment, it was the right voice)

Best vocals in Helloween, best Kai era. Sure, he misses the perfect pitch here and there, fuck-all technique but damn me if this is not one of the most METAL performances ever recorded. And I LOVE his timbre. That's purely subjective of course but there really is something about his timbre that was lost in Gamma Ray.

I like Empyreal's dive into (Morgana) Lefay, it's nice to see such an overlooked band being appreciated. Today is Tony Eriksson's birthday too!

Shadowmaker IS that bad. It's fucking terrible and a real contestant for worst comeback ever. Resilient has terrible problems as well but that's the album I would say "yeah but it's not THAT bad (ie Shadowmaker bad) - at least it has a couple of good tunes that would have been great if properly recorded" (ftr: Run Riot, Bloody Island)

NP: Inculter - Death Reigns
The Norwegians, part of the whole Fenriz-approved school of music, just released their new single. Loved 2019's Fatal Visions album (very Nekromantheon). They remain as good as ever. Waiting eagerly for the new album.

You can always collaborate by doing a review yourself.

NP: Gorgoroth - Destroyer, Or About How To Philosophize With The Hammer

A diffuse album, it seems not to want to know its own direction, I like tracks like "Open the Gates" or "The Virginborn" but there is something in general that feels off.

I can handle Kai's vocals in Gamma Ray and I like "interesting" vocals but I just find his vocals on that album to be off-putting.

Spun Cradle of Filth - Existence is Futile

Pretty solid, around a 70% album. Suffer Our Dominion is just awful. Yeah I don't really listen to a band like Cradle for Pinhead to go on about the environment.
