Whaaaaattt??!!!!! Hahaha

Don't know if you like Ampeauty from Pungent Stench? But I hear some Swansong influences on that album. For example, a big chunk of The Amp Hymn could have been on Swansong especially the first riff. Ampeauty is a bit darker.

1349's newest album.

Spoiler: show

That design might have been interesting, but not on that drab white backdrop. What really kills it is the MCoC (read: MCock) on the bottom even when the full title is just below it. Why?

Yeah I have almost everything by Pungent Stench, that album included, it's definitely their 'weakest' or my least favourite album.
But still, it's Pungent Stench so is awesome :metal:

That 1349 drawing is good but I agree about the background and MCOC bit, 1349 usually have good artwork.

Another terrible Ragnarok album cover

I think both abums should be avoided. Heartwork is mediocre speed metal that people fail to judge as such because it has gutteral vocals and is therefore deemed "innovative" melodic death metal and with Swansong the band has entirely alienated itself into shitty hard rock territory.

Heartwork has a cool title track, the rest of the album is :boring:
Rot 'N Roll from the EP was pretty neat too I thought though.

Swansong I kinda liked the opener but I think I fell asleep afterwards.

Could've probably made a neat EP taking a track or two from each actually. Would've been stronger.

What? Heartwork's way too groovy and mid-tempo to be speed metal. C'mon.

Pungent Stench made quite some Death n' roll?
At least Club Mondo Bizarre, and a big chunk of Ampeauty too.

Well speed metal is more than just tempo... Heartwork is full of speed metal riffs (of the Helstar variety to be specific). There are death metal riffs too but they're mostly corrupted by that whole dumb groove aesthetic. The album is a bit confused about its identity, but in my subjective impression the speed metal character dominates. However that's not the reason it sucks, it sucks because it's shallow, neutered and boring. Carcass resorted to frankensteining elements of more accessible styles because they forgot how to write good death metal and had lost interest in grindcore.

I think they were trying to take lots of black metal stereotypes and do the opposite. Instead of white art on a black background, they used black art on a white background. Instead of monochrome, they used shading. Instead of printing in grayscale, they added the touch of red. Instead of using hand-drawn old english type, they used a Helvetica clone.

That still doesn't explain the "MyCock" at the bottom though.

A typical computer graphics trainwreck of the 90s.

Speaking of Ragnarok, I'm surprised you picked up that one, dreadmeat. That's not the worst Ragnarok cover by a margin.

Yep. No words for this abomination.

Of course, every single Keydragon album cover ever. They went from hackneyed 6-grader drawings to this:

Wow, that is actually sorta kinda okay by their cover art standards. Maybe they are finally taking some of the criticisms to heart, but I'm too scared to listen and find out if this applies to the music as well.

Saint Vitus might not have the best covers out there (Born Too Late's is iconic though, and Mournful Cries is the one exception that I'd say looks really good) but I don't know what they were thinking with this one. Looks ugly as hell.

HAHAHA! Funny story about that one. Back when I was in college there was always a guy with a card table somewhere in the neighborhood selling CDs out of a van. We had suspected his "wares" were really just burned at home from p2p MP3's and fake art run off a commercial printer (this was in the handful of years when it was possible to make money like this). When I saw this album on his table I actually called him out for using such an obviously shitty low-res version of the cover art and passing it off as the real thing. When I found out that the original cover art actually looked like that, I felt mighty stupid. (Although later it turned out we were right about him anyway, so whatever).

That Queensryche cover always reminded me of some really old computer program cover, like something that would run on Windows 95.

I could see that art as some kind of cover for a crossover band. It may fit the idea of the actual song but it doesn't fit Queensryche's image in the least bit. Of course, neither does that skull they were using last year but that's beside the point.

Really? I think that looks awesome.

Brocas Helm's Into Battle

Spoiler: show

Not only is it completely generic, but it's a really ugly attempt at generic. Apparently the band wasn't happy with it either, which led to them leaving their record label or something. The re-issued cover art isn't much to write home about either, but it's miles ahead of that. Still, I guess a super low-fi cover art may add to the overall charm of the band, which is rough and un-polished by nature.

Ugh, yeah I always hated Terror Squad's album cover. In fact I refused to listen to the album for the longest time simply due to that ugly cover (a dumb habit I've been trying to break). Thankfully I eventually got over it and listened to the album, because it kicks a ton of ass.
