Love this band and everything they've done! Right next to Esoteric and Skepticism my favorites. "Atra Mors" was magnificent.

This sounds awesome, will it measure up to Mournful Congregation's release from earlier this year?

You should try the rest then. ;) Antithesis of Light, Caress of the Void and Atra Mors are all great albums in their own ways, though the first will always be a bit more special to me than the others. I was surprised by Atra Mors since I only heard it long after release and it's definitely a great album!

This new song sounds good, though it definitely feels like the band is going for those new dynamics that they've talked about in the press release for the album. We'll see how it goes but this songs feels a bit more "open". It could just be a moment of respite in the album. :D

PS: Can somebody please explain to me how it's cheaper to order from the US store rather than the EU store?! 15€ of shipping for a single CD in Europe, wut???

Definitely looking forward to this, they're still the kings of their genre after all these years.

That was... unexpected?! They mentioned changes but this feels like a big left turn by them. I have no idea what to expect now to be honest, so we'll have wait and see what comes out of this.

Not to me. I've been an Evoken fan for as long as I can remember, own all their albums and this one isn't really that much different from what they've been doing. It rules, of course.

I think that comment I made was regarding the clean vocals on the second single, but I could be wrong. After hearing it three times I can say that yes, it isn't that far off from the usual Evoken style, though in all honestly there are a couple of curve balls on the second half of it. The last song in particular has a very uplifting vibe that isn't usual in the band's music. Other than those two long songs on side b the rest is typical Evoken, and yes the album is shaping up to be another banger.

PS: I also own all their stuff by the way.

I've listened a few times today, and I'm inclined to agree. There are a few melodic ideas that seem a bit different, but the way they are woven into the song is classic Evoken. Loving this album, as expected!
