I've been wondering when this was coming out, as they promised it would be out this year when the last E.P. was announced. The E.P. was pretty good, and I see that all the songs made it on there. I'll definitely be checking this out, although I'm not expecting too much. Modern Venom is good in my opinion, but this is a far different band than the one who made their first three albums (and I don't just mean from a lineup perspective). I still enjoy what they do, and it will be interesting to hear how this compares to the Venom Inc. album, which I thought was amazing. That one felt really fresh, and I hope that this one will too.

Love the cover but modern Venom doesn't really do it for me. There's always one or two decent songs on their albums but the majority of the material is really lackluster.

I think I know what to expect from this. Wouldn't mind hearing some more progressive songs this time around, the same 'old school' metal tracks get a bit redundant at times. Will check it out though.

'Storm The Gates' - a quote from their 3rd album? Was that deliberate?

I like that.

However, I worry it's the only thing I'll like about this.

I mean, they've referenced Welcome to Hell and Black Metal, so why not At War with Satan? If they were really feeling adventurous they'd call the album Satan War With. :P

Cronos' only hope nowadays is firing his guitarist and getting a recently fired Venom drummer back on board. Which is not really fair since their current drummer is the best thing about this line up. :P

Ha.... Storm Before The Calm. They'd be contradicting themselves a bit with that one

Am I the only person that thinks Resurrection is fucking incredible? I mean, I even remember reading that the band members hate that record and I think it's just massively crushing. I haven't loved one of their records since, but as someone said earlier, there are always 2-4 good songs on each release.

Related (but don't want to jack the thread): I vaguely remember reading an interview with Cronos around the time Metal Black came out where he completely panned Resurrection and even referred to it as a "Nu Metal" record, which seemed super bizarre to me. Does anyone have a link to that interview?

I just listened to a few tracks and it's pretty damn decent. The production definately makes their sound heavier. Gonna give the whole record a spin after work tonight.

Yes! It's the only album I really thoroughly enjoy since the first 5 (don't kill me but I actually like Calm Before The Storm). So for me, the best album in the last 30 years or so from them by far.

I totally agree. Resurrection has some weaker spots, but on the whole it's a killer record. The production does a lot for it.

Metal Black is awesome too imho, not every single song but some like Death & Dying and Good Day to Die are just fucking menacing. Its their only recent I play as much as their classic records. Hoping the new one's good!

Mediocre player who, while fine for, say, a local Slayer tribute band, doesn't have much place in a legendary metal band.

Not feeling the cover. It makes them look like Finnish power metal.

I strongly doubt there's a more similar cover than Nifelheim's self-titled debut, with its motive and colours:

Those two covers have the same colors and subject matter, but they're totally different in style (rough handpainted art vs slick Photoshop job), as well as composition (the Nifelheim cover draws your eye to the center, while the Venom cover draws your eye to the sky on the left).

I've listened to this s couple times now. At times I get an old school vibe to it which I like. I definitely think it's better than the last two they put out. Solid album IMO.

I've listened to it four times in full now, and I think it's kinda boring. Nothing really sticks or stands out to me, and I think the song Dark Night (Of the Soul) is hilariously bad,

That song just finished for me....ya the lyrics are horrible.

So far the album is weaker than their last few.

Omg  Storm After the Calm would make more sense anyway.

Didn't catch the reference with AWWS. I'm a total newbie. :/
