StS have always been one of those bands where it's 3/4 good songs scattered across a mediocre album.

I still check every new release because those 3/4 songs are usually really good and worth a few listens.

Fingers crossed they go with a darker trend like they did in the 3rd part of Songs from the North. I found that to be a more interesting approach by them.

That cover gives me a huge Hollow Knight feel. And yeah I agree with Somar, they always tend to have great songs along some really forgettable ones, so their albums are not that strong as a whole. Nevertheless, I will check this out, love the art work.

Yeah, and on December 21, they will release a standalone 14-minute single track called "Lumina Aurea" featuring Wardruna's Einar Selvik and The Foreshadowing's Marco I. Benevento.

Really looking forward to this. I thought Songs from the North was fantastic, so I've high hopes for this.

I was just thinking about how incredible their last release was. Their ability to pull off a TRIPLE album of 3 different styles was nothing short of astonishing. I look forward to this!

First disc of Songs From the North was fucking awful. Second disc was simply boring. Third disc was actually interesting. Let's hope there's more of disc 3.

I have the completely opposite feeling. The first disc had some amazing parts, but out of the three, it was the one I felt most ambivalent towards. It's business as usual for Swallow the Sun, with a couple of amazing parts. The way it kicks off is unforgettable. The second disc is absolutely wonderful. You don't have to be Finnish to like it, but it helps.

I loved the second disc as well, songs like Away, Autumn Fire and (my personal favourite) the one with the coordinates (:p) are really really good, in my opinion. Pretty subtle stuff, but catchy and soulful too. The first disc is definitely the weakest of the three, in my opinion, but it's still really enjoyable (Rooms and Shadows especially is a fucking jam) and the third is definitely great too. I especially love the climax of 7 Hours Late.

edit: also want to just mention the production on the second disc is pretty much flawless to my ears. It's just such a pleasure to listen to.

I used to really like this band, the first couple albums anyway. For whatever reason they've fallen off my radar, despite the other activities of the band members. I think I will revisit their discography before this comes out.

^Same situation for me. I fucking loved The Morning Never Came and Hope back when I was in high school and first exploring doom metal. Lost interest with New Moon and pretty much stopped following them ever since. I don't think adding clean vocals in a significant capacity was a good move for them, and later albums seem to lack the inspired melodies of their early stuff. Aside from all that, I just never had the time or patience to give Songs from the North a devoted listen. Here's hoping this new one is worthwhile, I'll probably check it out just given that it seems to be a more manageable length.

The triple CD was great, it was a great surprise for me because I tought this band had given their best so it was a pleasant surprise. I am quite optimistic with the one one, the 14 minutes single could be something crushing.

I was kind of the opposite. I hate long albums, double albums let alone a triple album. Thats why it was such a surprise for me, cause i was expecting it to be a bloated, boring slog.

the repeated "bury me" line just made me think of that scene from arrested development...

At first I was kinda underwhelmed but the song grows. Anyway, it seems that it will be a quite accesible album according to this song and the first review I have read.

That was weak mate. I can enjoy Upon the Water´s softer side but this one is way too soft.

A very underwhelming albums, it has some great moments but it has too many clean vocals and soft sections. There are moments when you ask youself, where is my "metal dosis"?

I know this is completely illogical, but 'Songs from the North I, II & III' had me beat before I even began listening to it. It took me 2-3 months to get around to playing it and I even done a disc a day to break it up and it felt like a chore getting through it. It didn't stand a chance for me, sadly. Thankfully the next one isn't like this.

That doesn't sound very illogical to me considering I had the same experience when I heard it was three albums.
