Every time I want to be skeptical of how this will turn out, they keep throwing awesome developments like that at me.

The singer switch should help significantly IMHO.

Not quite a single though, since it's from the recent EP with the previous singer. But yeah, I guess the change in vocals will be the only change to the song.

Damn, I didn't notice House of Doom on the track list the first time I looked at it. That's weird.

Not really. EP songs showing up on later full length albums may not be the prevalent way of doing things, but still is not that uncommon. Usually demo songs get "promoted" to full length status, but sometimes EP songs as well.

I only listen to the first 4 albums, but looking forward to hearing this new one. Johan back hyped my intrest abit, but they need to bring the RIFFS. Thats why you just can't beat the first 4...

I love “Demon of the Deep”, which makes me very excited by this new album’s tracklist. We could be in for two more songs about sea monsters. Can never have too much of that :)

Wow, I can hardly believe Iommi is dropping a solo on this album. That's pretty huge - not really something he ordinarily does, and I'm stoked he's doing it for a band like Candlemass. I'd love to hear him guest on a Sleep album.

I know making an early judgement based on songtitles before hearing a single note isn't always wise, but I'm even more hyped for this album now after reading them as if there weren't enough reasons for me already. Simple, effective, and textbook Candlemass. To see that Iommi makes a guest appearance was a surprise, and a welcomed one.

It's clichéd, but it really feels like all the elements are there for this to be a standout album in their history.

^ Agreed MO.

I have to assume Iommi is bored and tired of sitting around. I wouldn't be surprised if we see him popping up in other normally-unexpected places.

My favorate by them has always been the 2005 self-titled, for some odd reason (I'm probably alone in that opinion) but I will definitely give this one a listen!

I'm glad the original vocalist from EDM is back. They've had a lot of singers over the years that people have lost their shit over, but I've always only liked their first album. If this new one sounds anything like that, I'll be excited. That album artwork is a spitting image of Epicus.

Iommi guested on Cathedral's "Utopian Blaster" with a solo way back. I think you just have to ask nicely.

About Iommi making a guest appearance:

"Candlemass are a major force in Scandinavian heavy rock and have always acknowledged the influence we had on their music. They asked if I'd contribute to a track which sounded pretty good so I thought 'why not'"
- Iommi

Love his guest solo on Cathedral's "Utopian Blaster", didn't know it was such a rare occurence going by that page.

Looking forward to the new album, for sure. Candlemass ranges from solid to amazing, so always worth checking out.

It's fine but it's not really doing anything all that new. Just looks a Death Thy Lover/House of Doom song with Johan instead of Mats. I like it well enough but I don't think anybody would care about this beyond the name recognition.

Johan absolutely kicks ass on this song. He should've been back much sooner :)

Wish I could get excited about this, but the songwriting is just as lackluster as the last handful of Candlemass albums. Johan won't be able to save the dialing it in compositional quality with his voice, no matter how good that may be.

New song, Astorolus - The Great Octopus, which is the one featuring a guest solo by Tony Iommi:

Wow, I love that one! Main riff sounds very Epicus and vocals sound totally spot on. Hearing Iommi rip a solo on a Candlemass album is surreal, but - and I can't believe I'm saying this - if I didn't know it was him I think my eyebrows would kinda raise and I'd be like, "wow, where did that come from?" It doesn't sound totally fluid with the song, but eh, I also kind of love that Iommi decided to milk his chance and rock out as absolutely hard as possible on his guest spot. A great song all in all!

Perfectly acceptable and solid, I could see myself enjoying this album alright... gotta say though, it's a shame how rote and played out this is compared to the old stuff. I guess that's how it is with bands this old. Just seems a bit predictable and plodding, really. Not a lot of energy and the riffs are strictly workmanlike.

I've enjoyed both of the new songs. It won't be a timeless masterpiece but this will be a good, strong album.

I think Empyreal nailed it, sounds good but also kinda “stock”. Both cuts would probably have been more epic with Lowe on vox.

The problem with Lowe is that he was a really inconsistent live performer and was also generally kind of a dickhead. There's something to be said for getting a dude whose peaks may not be as high as someone else's, but who has far more even and dependable performances while also being able to get along with everyone. It's the same reason why Marcolin isn't coming back.

Yeah, but even so, the riffs could be so much better and more energized than they are now.

I was just listening to it and thinking 'sure this isn't bad, but where is the fire from songs like Bells of Acheron, At the Gallows End, etc?'

This new song sounds fantastic but man am I getting some serious King of the Grey Islands flashbacks. So is this whole album just gonna a Lowe-era album with no Lowe in it?

Did anyone else find Astorolus so damn similar to Copernicus?

Or is it just me?

I think that "era" starts with the s/t album when Messiah returned....and yep, these two songs sound right out of that chapter in their book.
