Weird, weird story. This sucks as I like Pat a lot and this seems so ridiculous for him to do. I hope everything works out but this story is just baaad.

whoa

I don't know which part is stranger, the break-in/assault or the fact that he had "military-style flamethrowers" in his house

Time for a quick replacement so CC don't lose their spot on the farewell Slayer tour. What is Jack Owen doing now that he's left Deicide?

Crazy shit happens all over. But here in Florida it's just an extremely popular place and we get it broadcast more often.

This is an insane story for sure.

So, let me get this straight. His house caught fire, shit started exploding (zombie apocalypse provisions?), he rushes out of there, goes to a nearbby house, runs past the protesting grandma and ignoring the family living there telling him to leave, goes and hides behind a bush. Then attacks the police with a knife.

What the fuck man.

Although I miss Jack being involved in a prolific death metal band as much as anyone, I don't see how they consider any other option before approaching Erik Rutan first.

I wouldn't have expected Pat to do anything like this. He seems like the type to always have a guitar in his hands, just shredding and riffing away. Definitely doesn't look good for him right now.

Definitely a strange story, and the day after it's announced they'll be touring with Slayer no less. This sounds like a story you'd hear about Billy-Joe-Bob the meth-head who lives in the trailer park down the road, not something you'd think of the fucking guitarist for Cannibal Corpse doing! It would be interesting to know more about his motivations, as well as if it has anything to do with the fire at his house. Crazy story for sure, if this clears up, they should write a song about it.

Well, that's why you don't do meth.

Look at that picture. He's a fucking mess. He was probably trying to cook it, and something went wrong. Sores on his face... paranoid behavior by hiding.... it's classic amphetamine syndrome.

It was mentioned in the blabbermouth article I read. Along with bullets exploding in the fire making it difficult for firefighters to put out the fire.

Crazy. Cartridges cooking off in a fire is like fire crackers going off but I bet that sounded wild to the firemen going in there. I knew Pat was a firearms enthusiast so I'm guessing he bought ammo in bulk. I know if my house catches fire its going to sound like the 4th of July! The flamethrowers I'd have to see, news media is often confused when it comes to describing firearms or stuff of that ilk. But you can get some wild stuff. https://throwflame.com/flamethrowers/

Well at least he waited until after the show I saw to pull this insanity. He was ripping it up that night. They need to replace him with a tight player and hopefully its not the end of his time in music.

Meth sucks people, stick to weed!

What was he doing at the neighbor's house?

Why did his house catch on fire?

This story does not add up at all. O'Brien has never been documented as an addict, and the fact that his house caught fire while he was away on a supposed burglary is extra suspicious.

If that part about him charging an officer with a knife is true though....wew lad, he's lucky he's not dead.

Pat and Allen West need to form a band. In or out of prison, I don't mind.

Well, at least it's not a child porn case.

This might come as a shock to you, but drug users can go a long time before getting caught. Some are better at hiding it than others. I'm not saying drugs are what happened here, but it's an easy speculative scapegoat in the early stages of this ordeal.

Ugh, more depressing news. Well Pat you had a good run. There are enough candidates that we can reasonably hope the lineup change will not diminish CC, unless by some quirk Pat's allowed to return later.

Also I'm sorry but this could be the intro to a Metalocalypse episode (I hope this crosses George Fisher's mind). Ya blew it, capiche?

Edit: This was harsh, be well Pat! Hope you are back soon.

I didn't expect to wake up to this news. Sad for Cannibal Corpse and a bizarre story all round, but Pat should probably be in jail.

holy crap, what a strange story! Yeah, sounds like the guy was on SOME kind of drug- meth would be my first guess, probably cooking it in his house and it caught fire.

Everyone is so quick to jump to drugs, but there could be more complicated dynamics at play. It could be an episode from a mental illness we don't know about, and/or he had something traumatic happen to him and caused his destructive, erratic behavior. We just don't know. His suicide prevention vest at his hearing suggests something deeper going on with him. Many people do drugs and don't burn down their house, break into a neighbors home, and run at cops with a knife. There has to be much more to this story. My thoughts about him rushing at the cops with the knife was to incite them to kill him, not to attack them...clearly having suicidal issues.

Just glad nobody was hurt, and I hope Pat gets the help he needs.

Agreed with every word. He's clearly a very well-respected guy in his own local community, given by all the musicians who are coming out to voice their support for their friend and asking people to not jump to conclusions - it's obvious he doesn't have the reputation of a drug dealer/user, it definitely seems like he had a mental breakdown of some kind.

I've heard a lot of theories and they're all plausible but all also flawed.

Somebody said meth based on the sores on his face and erratic behavior (also the fire could've been a cooking incident), but the marks on his face could be injuries from tussling with a cop and the crazy behavior could be a psychotic break or something. I've heard it was a psychotic break but there's really no known history of such a thing with Pat, but there's really no way we would know anyway. I've heard suicide attempt, but if he simply wanted to die we know he owns like a million guns, and if he specifically wanted suicide-by-cop I think it stands to reason he could've just brandished one of those million guns.

Basically it's all speculation and there's really no point getting worked up into a frenzy guessing with shit we have no real reason to guess. Definitely a weird news story. It was fun to actually recognize Florida Man this time.

Sounds like he was having a bad trip. The behavior described in the article seems to denote drug abuse of some kind. Maybe he lost contact with reality and became very paranoid. I mean, why would he have hidden in a bush with a knife? Doesn't sound like something someone would do if they had their whole head.

Yes, you could be. After all, what does a job he took in 2011 have to do with his state of mind or habits 7 years later in 2018? For the record, I have my doubts about this being caused by drugs because of how unstable a person he's always seemed to me. I know being a standoffish dick doesn't necessarily make you a nutcase, but it doesn't help matters either. There's really no concrete evidence pointing to drugs. At this point it's just speculation.

Oh but he was acting irrationally.
Dumb motherfuckers snap and do that all the time.

But his facial wounds! Total tweaker!
You ever been handled roughly after rushing a police officer with a knife? Wouldn't be shocked one bit if he got roughed up during the tussle.

People are quick to blame drugs, but maybe the real friendship was the drugs we had inside us all along.
