Hammerfall will begin recording a new album, called Dominion, in January for a release on August 16th.

The announcement seems a bit early, but I am excited nonetheless. These guys are my favourite band and their last two albums have ruled (Built to Last especially).

Does this band still play the same type of crap over and over and over and over again, or have they actually evolved to something that doesn't make me want to shoot myself in the head?

I will check this out. The last few have been decent enough, but I don't think they've done a great album since Threshold.

As much as I like Legacy of Kings and some of their later ones like Revolution actually kinda surprised me... their last one was terrible, and really just laid bare how mediocre they are compared to so many bands now. A real relic of their time really.

Their first two are absolute favorites of mine. Renegade had some good moments. They began the decline after that. No Sacrifice, No Victory, Infected, (r)Evolution were awful. Built to Last was a true return to form. I'm not expecting much, hopefully they will surprise me.

Hearing Hammerfall cover Deicide would definitely be a reason to check this album out.

The artwork is pretty outstanding, once again! I really like the song. Nothing special for HammerFall, but it's got a good riff and is really catchy. And as usual, Pontus' solo rules.

Edit: And I just ordered the boxset... just like the last album

I've hardly listened to these guys since Renegade but every song that I tried to give a chance has sucked so I'm not hyped about this. Also that cover art blows, it looks like something from World of Warcraft. And I don't mean that in a good way.

A lot of their art (probably including this) is created by Blizzard's Samwise Didier.

Well that explains it. I've not been truly impressed with Blizzard since Diablo II (although Starcraft II was mostly good they utterly destroyed the Zerg for me).

Pretty par for the course for Hammerfall: vapid pop metal with a chorus that gets old after two minutes. On brand for them.

A second new song!

Youtube: show

I think I like the other song better, but this one is really good. The second half in particular is exactly what I want from HammerFall.

Despite my fanboyism, I do think HammerFall is great at writing songs in their signature sound without reusing melodies/ideas.

Hammerfall are the poster boys of Euro-power metal that sure exists, alright, but never spends more than a few seconds in my head before being forgotten completely.

I still listen to GLORY TO THE BRAVE and think it's an awesome album but have not been able to get into anything after that.

Can't say I've been overly impressed with either of the two songs, but I'll still check the album out. Most of what they've done is decent enough at bare minimum.

It's fun festival metal, but highly unlikely it's an album I would buy. Just Hammerfall as Hammerfall have been for the last several albums really.

Promos came out last week, and I'm only on my 4th listen (Napalm Records unfortunately does stream-only promos).

I would definitely rank this lower in their discography. Much weaker than Built To Last for sure. It's hard to compare to some of their mid-era albums because I've heard them all literally hundreds of times.

The biggest issue is that this lacks a really killer song. There's no "Blood Bound", "Hector's Hymn", or "The Star of Home" here. Individually, a lot of the songs have insanely great moments (the harmonized solo in "Never Forgive, Never Forget" rules), but they don't necessarily sustain greatness throughout. My favourites after a few listens are "Scars of a Generation" (by far the fastest song; also has a wicked opening scream from Joacim) and "Dead By Dawn", but I also really like "Testify", and "Chain of Command".

One thing I grow increasingly nervous about with HammerFall is the band ripping themselves off. Built To Last had tons of this type of thing lyrically, but I do find this album to be slightly more refreshing in that area (though still learning all the words). With that said, musically, the title track is basically just them rewriting "Titan". Outside of this song, there aren't many blatant ripoffs of themselves or other bands.

I do think the album is a grower. I've liked it more on each listen, and there are some weird things going on throughout the album. I'll stop there before I ramble further, but will end by saying that I am slightly disappointed, but have a feeling that might change by the time the box set is in my hands in a few weeks :P

Eh. I want less rock and more metal. Their earlier stuff is good but they've gone way down hill. At the very least they've been inconsistent. Chapter 6 is an awesome record though.
