Metal Blade will drop them now. Name is mud, can't see them wanting to spend more money on them.

I don't think Metal Blade will drop them - they've already put a huge investment in and, ultimately, whoever has the rights to the Batushka name is under contract with Metal Blade. The Metal Blade deal was done when Derph was still in the band so this is between Bart and Derph, not Metal Blade. So, honestly, it would be better for them if Derph won the name and people went back to liking Batushka. They'd probably prefer it, IMO.

All that said though, they have to be completely gutted by this. The band got so big, so fast, that I'm sure they put quite an investment into getting them and setting up the record that just completely flopped. When you look at all of the things happening: Metal Blade signing them, the major touring that happened before Derph left, the massive touring they had planned and 5B Management (Slipknot) representing them, this was prepared to be the next big metal band (the new Ghost or new Behemoth) - and then it all completely collapsed. A lot of the major players in the metal world lost a lot of money on this whole thing.

I just noticed the top-voted similar artist for Bart's Batushka by a lot is not the original Batushka, but one of the parody ones.

Have to admit that even though it hurts the integrity of the site a bit to have all the troll recommendations it's kinda funny reading them all together (the massively downvoted ones you see when you click "edit.")

For those that are interested, a few songs from Derph's debut performance in Kiev are being posted in full. Decent quality for a hand-recording, but overall I'm just really happy this evening was captured.

There's a new song from Bart's Batushka. More of the same.

Maybe a marginal improvement over Hospodi, still not really worth listening to.

It may be a fool's hope, but I really would love for Krzysztof to get the "official" band back once the legal proceedings work themselves out. I loved Litourgiya, it felt like a confluence of a whole bunch of disparate interests of mine that really scratched a musical itch I didn't know I had, and if he could start putting out releases on a major label again that would be pretty cool.

Time to start a new project. Nobody has done an orthodox Islamic band that uses authentic nasheed. That sounds like it could be a cool trend, ripe for parody versions.

Instrumentation in religious music is forbidden in Islam, so crossing it with a metal element wouldn't really work.

That's one interpretation, but not the only one. There's plenty of Islamic music with instruments. There's xtian sects that frown upon music as well.

A cursory scan of the Archives pulls up this Iraqi raw black metal band, Mulla: https://mulla.bandcamp.com/album/--2

No nasheed, but it's earnestly pro-Islamic raw black metal, and the band name also refers to a type of learned religious man, like Batushka.

It's so clear they've spent more time designing the merch than they have been composing the music.

https://www.batushkastore.com

It also seems to be out on Witching Hour, not Metal Blade. Bart must be living the time of his life. He though he was going to be making money off this and then he had to cancel a few tours due to poor sales. Now he can't even tour because of the global lock-down and his deal with a big label seems to be off.

Not.

Yeah, I'm sure a genre that spawned shirt designs such as "fuck me Jesus", "Jesus is a cunt" and "I'm a slut, I spread aids" wouldn't be ready for Bartushka's merch without a disclaimer. Thanks for safeguarding our sensitivity, fellas.

I don't really think black metal fans are the target of that disclaimer anyway.

Your paint Behemoth clichés by numbers artworks are the least offensive thing you do, Bart.

Who really is knocking down the doors to buy merch from the fake Batushka right now, anyway? Ultra casuals that just know the name and somehow have zero knowledge of the name dispute?

Does Bart think that nuns in Moldova are going to be browsing his website?

Which shirt is this? This is the only one I haven't seen.

Fairly certain it was a Mütiilation girlie, but I can't find any pics of it; it was from quite a few years ago.

Been on a Batushka nostalgia trip of late, Litourgiya and Krzysztof only, (I have no dog in the race, it's just that Bart's stuff isn't really worth the time IMO.)

That got me thinking, anyone knows what's going on here? Is the dispute any close of going one way or the other?

I would really like Krzysztof to release some new material, under batushka or other name, but since I have no idea what's going on, no idea if that's a possibility or a pipe dream.

No idea, all I know Krzystof's version is playing gigs here and there, I caught them in summer 2020 (and might have done it last year too, if I were interested). But truth be told I am not the biggest fan of the original or either of current versions; while Krzystof definitely has the substance over whatever drivel Bart is cobbling together, I tend to get bored by it after a few songs.

Bringing this up again, as it appears the fake Batushka has been signed by Napalm Records. While this site lists Drabikowski's Batushka as the one signed by Napalm Records, the labels Page lists the fake one's line up. This leads me to assume that either the damn fake has won the court case, or the label did not do its homework. Either way, cannot see how this should work out.
